Stared at pieces of the wiring harness, declined to solder. Hours later, on my way into the house, I removed the oil filler cap pedestal from the valve cover and screwed the filler cap directly into the valve cover. Looks much cleaner that way.

I got it from an eBay seller named tomsclassics . The kit came with 2" mcgaughys drop spindles. The whole kit was around $550 delivered to my door

Last night, trimmed some fat off the coil brackets so I would show a little more of the valve cover. Could relocate but the fenders are crowded enough - maybe later?

Looks like you're getting there, My 48 isn't that far along yet. I need to find a place that sells WD40 in 55 gallon drums. Got the engine and trans today, Now to pull the 216 and begin the swap.

A full can of Liquid Wrench and 1/2 a can of break free helped but still snapped prob. 1/3 of the bolts. Not to bad as far as rust, hoping to get the steering column/glass out than the cab off.

Anyone have any links to how to remove the steering column?

57 swb, 454ci, 700r4,
We, my neighbor who knows how to weld, and I boxed the frame and welded in the cross-member. Today will see more grinding and then this week assembling.

After first time rebuilding one, finally cranked engine (sbc) about 2 1/2 years into project... got through cam break in, found a couple of small oil pan leaks but all in all pretty satisfied.

Off the top of my head, remove steering wheel and shift lever mech if column shift. Remove turn signal if equiped. Remove pitman arm from steering box, remove steering box bolts to frame bracket. Remove bracket that holds column to dash or dash support. unbolt anything else I forgot holding column. Pull box and steering column out thru firewall. Mark wheel and pitman arm locations for reassembly before removing.

In between fatherhood duties, working on the DD & some minor errands, I got some more soldering done on the engine harness and wrapped up another section. Now have "driver's injecttion", "rear" & "fuse box" left to do.
Also adjusted a wheel bearing... if I'm lucky I'll get the other side done before bed.

Just a couple little things, replaced the rusty, worn valve cover bolts (they were 3 different head sizes) with a nice new shiny set. And then painted most of the waterpump with a brush, what I could reach, with out removing anything. Just cleans up under the hood a bit!
