Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
If you have an 87 with a v8 and 3/8 fuel line, you're in luck! Just use all the 87 stuff and upgrade to the ep381 pump. No mods needed! You have to get the line(s) from the donor truck and compression fit them dudes together, but thats it.

I need the pump assy to send correct signal to the 01 cluster, also need pressure sensor and all that jazz. |
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Also, I cut the top mount ring out of the donor truck tank and then cut my existing tank, dollied the top flat and made a thick mount ring (had it done, but you can do it at home) for the inside of the tank, then made a sheet rubber gasket for the top of the tank and bolted that sucker together. Easy peasy. Be mindful of your vertical clearance, I had lots.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
You should be able to put the sensor on the side of the feed tube, good to go!

Pressure sensor in feed tube? Interesting. I still need my sending unit to send correct signal to the 01 cluster (90-240 ohms I think) instead of what the 87 sending unit sends (0-120 I think..) |
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Ach, I meant the gas gauge sensor. My '02 had no tank pressure sensor. I cut my approx 4" hole with a common jigsaw blade in a body saw.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Update: Finished the airbox mount and painted it. This truck has not had backup lights since we put the van column in, 15 years ago. So after a bit of tutelage from Eric, I pulled the column and put a new pair of holes in, so we should have a neutral safety switch. Yes, there's one in the PRNDL, but Eric said I have to have some kind of relays and have to find some kinda wire and OY, that sounds complicated. I just fixed it from the truck end. Hopefully gonna start makin' some tracks you can see!

Sounds like you're getting it licked. Can't wait to see the reveal. :metal:

Ha, me too!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Update! Got the column repainted, and the battery box and hood latch repainted last night, and got the fitting to hook up the oil pressure gauge. Tried to get the oil pressure sensor out, but couldn't get a socket on it and I was tired. Oh, called CAA and got all the missing parts on the way. I promise, I'll try to take more pics.

I know.... Boppa's coming out tonight, hopefully I'll pick up a camera. Bad Elco!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Off night, didn't pick up a camera. Got a bunch of small misc. spray bombed, got the oil sending unit pulled, drilled, tapped, and reinstalled, and got the column loosely reinstalled. We shove it right up to the cluster, so we have to wait till it's back in to lock the column down. I think I'm gonna wade into tranny lines tonight. Pray for me.

Sounds like you're all over/in/and under Yeller.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Thanks for the link Brian! Those are some good 'lil fittings. I have 4 sets of trans lines as of last night, and I took a minute and found the 5.3/4l60 set. They are too long, but they snake me up to the front of the motor very nicely, in all the factory clips I had to go back and find. Also figured out a trans cooler solution, I hope. Just gotta go get a better flare tool tonight and some tubing stock. Hopefully this is the last thing motor wise that's gotta be fabbed and briggled with. Assembly and a bit o'wiring from here on in, then time for the A/C mess. No pics, you all know what a fat moron lying on the floor going "Now what the hell am I gonna do?" looks like. Hoping for a good night and big win this weekend.
