I think they are. Neat.

Re: GM Semis
It seems this company had ll their trucks customized that way. Not sure the nature of their business, but maybe moving or other that required a crew. I doubt they are sleepers cuz those could be bought and installed easier and cheaper,I'm sure.

Re: GM Semis
My favorite big gmc's ever are the general and the astro especially the one with those rare big sleepers like in smokey and the bandit 2

Those have grown on me. At the opposite end of that Smokey & the Bandit truck, there's an Astro I pass by on a farm that just sits. One day I want to go ask about it. It's the same Dark (Woodland) Green color as my '92,a single cab single axle. It's as tall as it is long! The longer the truck the more I like it,but something short takes up less space for something that sets around most of the time and really all I'd need (need?). I could find a short lowboy or even a moving trailer would be cool,to haul trucks with. Or how about converting to a camper?
Here's a super sweet grain body semi from a show last fall I just stumbled across: |

Found this tandem 630 tractor in with my assorted large truck pics (I have lot). I like it!

Re: GM Semis
Just about a guarantee it's Detroit powered with the stack like that on there. Most likely a West Coast truck with the 10-Lug Budds it has. No 5th Wheel, but I see evidence of Air Brakes. Would make a mean heavy Dump Truck.

Re: GM Semis
OK, I saw this truck at the ATHS show in Brooks Oregon last year, notice the axle hub covers are in the horizontil position with the GMC logo. I don't know how they are fastened on but all six covers were turned the same way. That is paying attention to detail. This is a beautiful truck, if you ever get the chance to go to the Brooks show do so.

I think those are different tires than when I saw it, he must jack up every tractor and trailer wheel and reset them before the show, I'll dig up my pics of this truck, I took lots. Thats a great show in Brooks, If you go to The Great Oregon Steamup show on the 2nd weekend then you can layover till the next weekend which is the ATHS show, once in your lifetime do this.

Re: GM Semis
another thing, the wood deck on this trailer is like the biggest dining room table I've ever seen, you can eat off of this thing.

5000 series. Budd wheels always seem to look better.

Re: GM Semis
Interesting pictures. Do you know for sure that they are 5000's? Especially the truck in the 2nd picture, if it had a 478 it could very well be a 6500.
That truck sure reminds me of my old 6500. Even right down to the Lumber it is hauling. I drove a '62 GMC 6500 back in the '70's. Budd Wheels (Disc) vs Dayton Wheels (Spokes). It's a West Coast thing vs an East Coast thing. You will find that most truckers in the West prefered Budd's and most in the East prefer Daytons. I've been studying that for years and don't really know the answer why. I personally, from the East, follow along with the other East Coasters and prefer Daytons, lol. Even the guys that work on them seem to follow the same suit. We had another debate on them not to long ago on the other truck board. Both those trucks are either '64 or '65's. By sight, there is really no way of telling. Thanks for posting them. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
No one on my side of the hill likes spokes, I ended up with them on the one C80 and the hyster 25 ton, for me they are kind of a novelty. Budds on all my stuff are kind of the same old same old thing. I painted one of mine up real purdy couple days ago, working my way around the truck.
