Dude your physically moving distributor is prolly just needing the timing adjustment/clamp down bolt tightened. Happens just look on the side of the dizzy at the base where it goes into the engine you'll find a clamp with a bolt keeping it from moving.

BTW don't worry about an alternator when the truck isn't even running correct like you said backfiring an what not. You'll beat yourself for buying a new alternator when you coulda used that money to fix the engine to run better. Fix one project at a time rather than go all over the place. It'll get outta hand seriously.

it is physically possible to move a properly installed distributor cap
it is physically impossible to move a properly installed distributor without loosening the clamp
that's why everyone is asking more questions about what is moving
if you don't want or can't understand the advise posted here ask another pertinent question

Anyway Lowriderchevy, I appreciate your offer. I don't care to have Mr.Gasket products and I assume the V8 and I6 brackets are different ??? Sure they are..

Mines not Mr gasket got it out of junkyard I just figured if u can't find one rather than spend $55.00 on a part that could only cost $5.00

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Thanks, post a photo of it. I tried getting one out of a junkyard but I couldn't get the bolt that goes into the engine block to come out

Can anyone give me the actual tire size on the stock rims? Thanks

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

How does that last one bolt to the alternator?
I haven't really touched my truck since the incident with the distributor, as much as I'd like to I know nothing about anything on how to fix it other than putting another distributor in the truck and see how that works out

I am going to be in an local online newspaper for my truck, pretty excited

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Lower bracket has 2 bolts that go into the block then one long one to hold the alternator

Here is a photo of mine, I know its a SB with a manifold mount, but wanted to show how you can use a simple piece of flat stock to align the stock bracket with an alternator to the pulleys if you cannot get enough adjustment with shims, etc on the stock one. May as well use what you have, even a lot of aftermarket ones will need modified to work.

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

I'll see what I can do with it

I still haven't even touched the dreadful truck since the issue

I'm going to have a lot done to the truck
Getting two of my rims repainted
Buying patch panels to get welded on my truck
Front bed panel
Misc things
