Re: 58 GMC Project
As said before me, make sure you coat all sides really good. Ive seen people coat the top and sides but paint the underside...after a while it will still get moist and lift the finish on the top.

Re: 58 GMC Project
I got some poly spar varnish today at Home Depot. In a few weeks I am going to start staining and varnish the wood. Thanks to all who replyed and for your help.

Re: 58 GMC Project
I've refinished furniture for over 20 years and the only other thing I would say is to not put the finish on straight out of the can. we always diluted the first coat with a mineral spirits by about 30%. after that about 8-10%. It lets the finish level out before it starts to set up. Make sure you sand the new wood to open up the grain so that the wood will accept the finish. Also sand the finish between coats.
Have fun:cool: |

Man I really want to make it, but it's not looking like it will be done in time for Bother's show this year. I will go next year for sure, unless someone offers me that right $ amount I can't turn down. I am planning on Goodguys 17th Autumn Get-Together, November 11, 12, 2006, Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton, CA. If it's not raining and for sure to the Central Valley Fall Classic truck show the third week in October. |
Re: 58 GMC Project
Hey Cal58GMC,
Don't worry about the truck not being ready its nice to go and get ideas anyway. My truck is a couple of years off, although I've be seriously digging into it lately, but I still go to all the shows. I was thinking about driving the 55 210 to the brothers truck show, but the parking lot for non entries is dirt and I can't do that. Give me some info on this Central Valley Fall Classic truck show. |

Re: 58 GMC Project
Thanks all! I took a trip to the body shop today so we could place the A/C vents. I put the gauge cluster in so we could space the vents. You can see were we marked the drivers side vents.
