Re: 52 Project

Thanks Hvy, I get my boys to help me out a lot...except they are all moving out...lol. It is also good for them to learn a little about cars and how things work. My middle son is leaving this weekend for machine shop school and hopefully he will be done in a year so that he can go to work. I have been doing machine work for about 20 years, it is fun and pays the bills.

Cal told me to throw in a couple of pictures of my other project. Here it is...a 69 Camaro that I have been working on for a long time now. Once all the kids get out I will finally have the money to finish it. I still have one that is going to be a senior in high school next year so maybe I can get it finished in the next few years.

Enjoy Bernie

Now that's cool Bernie! I would love to own a 69 Camaro. Is it a true SS?

pgf545 05-06-2008 02:35 PM

Re: 52 Project

Cal, yeah as far as I can tell it is a true SS. Back in the day the documentation wasn't that great but from what I have been able to dig up it is all correct for the SS. It is not the RS/SS though.

Re: 52 Project

Taking a closer look, was it an original hugger orange or red car? What's the color plan for it?

Re: 52 Project

That thing is awesome

Re: 52 Project

Cal, It was an original Hugger Orange car...I am not sure what color I am going to paint it yet. I was thinking about going back orange or maybe a red. A guy here at work has a candy red bike and I really like that color. It is a factory color so it mught be cheaper than having a color mixed. I still have a while before I have to make that decision.

Thanks jkaylor I am wanting a decent street car to drive ang make some local shows. I am not looking to build a show car so everything I have done so far has been in that direction.

Thanks 54chevy and Frenchblue...

I hope to get back on the truck in the next week or so...it has been hectic around here and I wanted to get a little work done on the Camaro so it wouldn't feel left out...lol. My planned next step is to replace the drivers side cowl panel and then get the body sanded and in primer. I hope that it won't take a lot of body work cause I hate doing body work....I don't see how anyone can do that for a living...plus the body doesn't seem to be in that bad of shape...keeping fingers crossed. Maybe in the next few months we can get it painted and start the final assembly. Who knows because plans change but that is my hope anyway.

hey Bernie,

dont mean to take you off the camarro topic but could you tell me what Radiator it is that you put in the truck? was it direct bolt on? and if it will cool your big block it should cool my small block.

thanks,
Yaril

Great work bud like the progress and the big block power. Job well done

Re: 52 Project

Tylordurben, We got that radiator from PRC in Indiana. It was pretty close to a bolt in unit. It came with the side angle brackets not installed and I actually fitted it to the core support. I did have to notch the core support a little but I needed the room because of the big block. It might bolt up with a small block no problem. I think I talked to a guy named Jeff but I don't remember his name. Great people to work with and I am going to by one for the Camaro when I get closer to getting it on the road. Here is a link.

Thanks 53lo It has been a long trip but hope to make some good progress this summer.

P.S. Tylor...Cal58 made me post the Camaro pics...lol.:metal::smoke:

Well I finally got a little done on the truck today...not much but I thought I would post a couple of pictures so that you guys wouldn't think I have been goofing off...;). I got the drivers side cowl panel torn off and ready to start installing the new one. Took a while but I think the effort will pay off. I still need to straighten some things but I hope to get the new one on in the next few weeks. I think he wants to put the motor in the Corvair next weekend so I will help him with that. Man too many projects. Enjoy.

Thought I would add a couple of pictures of the cowl panel tacked into place. I didn't get a lot done this past weekend because my brother used all the gas welding on his trailer...lol. But I got the panel tacked and fitted the door to check out the gaps. Everything looks good and with a little adjustment should fit ok. Enjoy.

Hey I had a pretty good day today. I got the panel fully welded and ground. Actually looks good. I understand now why body work is so expensive. I am getting pretty close to finishing the metal work, then start the body working and painting. I also set the cab back on the frame to check for clearance around the distributor. I knew it was going to be close but we needed to get the final dist and motor location before I made the panel for that. Now that we have everything bought for that I can make the panel and weld it in. Maybe next weekend I can work on that. Here are a couple of pictures of the completed panel.

Hey I actually got quite a bit done today despite the heat...lol. I got the firewall cut out for the distributor clearance, built a panel and got it welded in. I still have a little grinding and a couple of spots to weld but for the most part it is in. I think this is last big thing that I need to do to the cab. Of course I still need to figure a few things out but I think other than a little bit of clean up welding I am done with the heavy work on the cab. Here are a few pictures from today.

Enjoy Bernie
