Nay. The 4 speed was stuck in first...I found that out the hard way. but she starts runs goes in gear and goes forward. And stops. But I need to shorten the steering column and wire the Tail lights. And I can't figure out the cable linkage setup.....

Nope. Had to yank the transmission cover off the top again to set the a gift forks in the right spot. I had the first /reverse gear fork infront of the gear so it was being held in gear even when It appeared to be in neutral. but it's all kosher now.

Yeah....after going to the show in Grants pass about 4 times in a row and basically seeing them same thing all the time...it gets old quick...rather be home workin on my truck. lol

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Exactly. I'd rather be working on the truck. So I found out why my motor sounded like it had a cam. Hah when it doesn't. My 600 dribbling" fuel into the intake hence the aggressive lope sound it has at idle. Haha darn was hoping the truck trolls may have magicaly installed a high life cam for me hah

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Ah..sounds like you fouled a plug. I run NGK's with a hotter heat range. Runs fine. Does it Misfire....or does it just sound like a dead cylinder? May not be the carb...My 600 ran fine on my stock 292....until the engine finally died on me. lol Serious valve train issues going on when the engine gets hot...weird...but...good excuse to jerk the old out and in with the new. :metal:

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Might be. I checked them all when I put them back in but perhaps I could have since then. I'll go and check maybe sometime today. But mainly I wanted to set up my cable throttle linkage, and weld on my steering column so u can test drive it

Well just about done with thecable set up. I had to fab a temporary bracket out of some .75x.75 angle iron and some inch by 1/8 material. It'll work for now until I can make somthing cool out of stainless or aluminum. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I'm a bit more impressed with the kit. Tho it was only 3 bucks.

That c 10 was cool for sure. They guys a little....out there. Says he got the blower for 11k....and spent 15k on interior....ect ect. Even I know that setup on top of his block is only around 4-5k for a nice one. it sounds healthy tho. Don't remember the guys name. One thing that's really odd. Is he stuffed some big meats In the rear, he said he narrowed the rear and a bit. And the stock trailing arms fit in there. Realllly close to the rim but they fit non the less.BUT you can see that the lower part of his rear quarter panels are bulged out....looks off...and the top part beer the bed rail is pin straight.. But he says that's how he got it. It's off of an early 60s gmc short box is what the bed is a doner from..never heard of gmcs with a bent bed.. He also says that he built the motor from a junk yard. Beats me. Maybe he did. And if so I want to know where that junk yard is hahaha  but over all a beautiful Truck. And it had a 5 speed!

He may be out there a way's, but some street FI set-ups for a blower are pushing 7K. and thats just the FI stuff-minus the blower and misc. parts.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

hmm. Beats me. Hey kimble. I have a rear output seal in the transfer case that leaks like a Siv. Do you remember by chance where you picked up the seals or rebuild kit for the t221?

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Matt--no gaskets avl that i know of. I made my own and they have to be real thin. Jason that i got the t/f case from had some thicker ones he made. those caps pre-load the bearings at least the ones with shims. the thicker ones made pre-load problems. even after i resealed mine it leaked also, not bad though. cleaned good with brake clean and ran a bead of sealer around the cap. which ones leaking pic?

mattbert56 05-03-2015 02:47 PM

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

I'll upload a picture when I can but it's the rear yoke on the tcase going to the rear end. The round seal is what's leaking. Not the gasket that seals the cap to the case. its leaked out everything it has in the case in about 2 days.

Mattbert56 I don't know how I missed your build thread, You've ton a ton of work on that truck glad to see another 4x4 I really like your 292 green and everything, That floor board reminds me of that wrinkle paint they used in the 60's car trunk's. I like it, I bet that ole 4 barrel did wake up that 292. I haven't really driven mine on the road yet so I don't know anything about the running gear other than when I tried it out 2 yrs ago with
4:56's and that 4 spd she was Veeeeery Sloooooooooooooow... but now with 1/2 3:73's hopefully will get some speed out of her..... 1 pc at a time...

Thanks Randy ! Your build has been one of my favorites. Always look forward to your updates. The 600 and headers is a definite upgrade I wish I did long ago. Im only a day or so away from a test drive. I just need the weld on the steering Shaft.

Matt--Is your yoke grooved where the seal rides? Leaking around the outside of the seal? through the splines?
