Not mine, but close to me
1969 truck
Model C60 Chevrolet, 427engine Tandem Axle 4 speed with 2-speed rear-end All steel bed with high sides Twin hoist 60,457 miles Very good condition http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/5731522268.html |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Interesting truck, but strange it only has a 4-Speed Trans. Between that and the Lighter Front Axle, I would say that it probably was originally a Single Axle, but still a cool truck in nice condition to boot.

Bill (anyone), is it me or is that second axle a tag axle? Are you identifying the front axle capacity by the Dayton wheel as opposed to the 10-lug budd I've seen from time to time? |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
One thing I just noticed is it only has one vent on the hood, when did they go dual vent?
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
I'm sure it is a tag axle , I think hyd. brakes ,but not sure. I would also say it has a 366 with only one air vent, 427 had two, plus emblems that said 427

On the Front Axle, no not a Dayton to a 10-Lug Budd, but in this case, I'm going by the Narrow Fenders. The 4-Speed Trans, along with the Fenders and the possible Tag is what is making me question how it was originally. ...Just shootin the breeze here, lol. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
My '69 has a 427 with dual vents... .It also has wider fenders and is spec'd pretty heavy....you can see it herehttps://flic.kr/s/aHsjtoJn2b

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Ok so L6 and Small blocks got no vents, 366 got one and 427 have two?
I know where a single axle 427 tractor is. I might have have to snag the truck and use some its parts |

The inside pic shows a 2 speed spliter. That would make it a single axle truck w/a tag and in this case the rear is the tag axle. M&S tires on the front axle and steers tires on the rear axle would backup this theory.
A 427 truck will have 2 vents w/a 427 emblem towards the front of the vents. The passenger side vent was functional with the air cleaner getting air there. The pictures are of a 71 Custom C/60, 427, 5+4, twin screw truck w/air brakes. Other than a repaint and aux holes in the bumper for steps, this was a completely stock truck including the wheelbase. Note the aux driverside fuel tank. With both tanks, you could actually use the truck 8-9 hrs and not stop for fuel. Sorry for the crappy pictures, but these are scans of Polaroids take in 1985-6 time frame. It was still working daily at that time. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Nice heavy truck.
What was the GVW? |

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Good example of a heavy lighter duty truck, although I would like to know what the GVW actually is.
If the Directional Lights are original, the truck is probably a '70. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Neat trucks! If the dust cap on the front hubs is flat, the axle is either a 5,000 or 7,000lb. If the cap sticks out to clear the larger spindle, the axle is a 9,000lb. or greater. The '69 GMC manual I have shows several different ones, up to 16,000lb. capacity. I'll bet that blue truck had the rear axle added later on. There were two 1971 C60's at the junkyard a few years ago that had tag axles and springs added to them. I remember the glovebox door on one still had the sticker and it had a 7,000lb front axle, both had Budd wheels though.

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Interesting truck.
They are calling it a "10-Speed", and technically it is, but it looks like a 5-Speed with an Electric 2-Speed Rear. |

Strange that it has 6-Lugs front and rear.
It's usually 5-10 or 10. |
