Wow...I was just stressed out about welding some a angle iron on my frame...read this whole build...now I am going to sell the whole thing in pieces for nothing and start bird watching or maybe water colors? Ok so I'll be the first...why after all that you've been through...are you putting a gen1 small block in that? I know it awsome and I know it's kinda traditional but...guys with a 64forth your talent are making 1200 horses with junk yard pull outs and 1200 dollars worth of Chinese shi@. I just think you guys should go all the way and do the most extreme example of drive train in a rig so beautifull You have the budget and there are plenty of your acquaintances/friends who could help. Big day. Greg and I wrestled that floor into place.
with the help of the rotisserie and some good planning we now have a new dance floor. Attachment 1768391 Attachment 1768392 Attachment 1768393 Attachment 1768394 Attachment 1768395 Tacked into place. we will be bolting it on to the chassis up on the fixture to finalize the rockers and get the front fenders and doors adjusted. Once we are satisfied with that we can pull it off and begin the actual body work. (I so dread that part of this build.) |

Sorry we have been off the air for so long.
We have been working, honest we have. Plumbing begins and we needed some specialty line hangers to run the brake and fuel line along the inside face of the frame. The aftermarket left us hanging so I grabbed some aluminum and chucked it up in the mill and widdled out what we needed. Attachment 1774390 Attachment 1774391 Attachment 1774392 Same problem with the forward mounts under the core support. So the lathe saw some action and we made these. We will use a 3/16" Delrin isolator to get our finished height. Attachment 1774393 Attachment 1774394 So no more delays time to put on our coverall to show some proper butt cleavage and become plumbers. :lol: |

Using some 2 inch bulkhead fittings we penetrated the frame at each wheel and brought the brake lines inboard
Attachment 1774397 Using steel braided flex lines we got the connection to the chassis/wheels. Made some hard lines for the lower a-arms and some cute little uprights to keep everything nice and stiff. bent up some stainless 3/16 hard line and began plumbing. This gets us to fuel lines. We will be running a in tank first gen F.I. General Motors pump for the old TBI systems. This truck has a carburetor so the 19 PSI pump needs to be regulated down to @6PSI. Holley builds a nice adjustable billet aluminum regulator and summit has a cute little 4 micron in line filter. We took all that and bent up a few yards of 3/8" hard line.

Do you touch up the bare metal when you drill holes? With my project I wasn't sure whether to run all my lines and get everything done and then blow it all apart for paint or do as you did and get "most" of it done and then not worry about drilling the odd hole here or there.

We are going to take a little detour on the build and do something that might garner a little attention.
We are going to rip the wiring out of the other 65 GMC and re-wire it with an American Auto Wire 20 circuit harness. we are also going to pull the bed off, widen and raise the wheel tubs as well as install our own c-notch and pan hard bar. So I finally decided on a set of wheels and chose Coys C5's. I do like them a lot, updated old school look. We thew them on just to put a little bling on her before the cab comes back off to do the firewall.

Been away for a bit but Greg and I have been working.
The new floor and rockers are welded in and we have an interference issue with the 4L80E transmission and the stock floor transmission hump. So we need to raise and re-contour for clearance. simple really, cut it and stick a block of wood on top of the transmission. Attachment 1791030 bend up a filler piece out of some 16 guage. So we need to pull the cab off the chassis and pull the chassis off the build table. Then mount the cab to the build table to start fabricating the fire wall.
lay out the panel out of heavy card stock Attachment 1791035 Attachment 1791036 Attachment 1791037 Attachment 1791038 now the card is roughed so get the cab situated on the end of the table. we built mounts so it is square and level. See. Attachment 1791039 |

Firewall looks great. Have you ever tried the 'Direct Sheet metal' firewall for these trucks yet?
