no mig is just fine. as long as you have atleast a 140 amp welder you should be fine. Id recommend tacking everything first real good. Then when you final weld get the bushings out if you can. Grease them up first so they come out easier. If you weld them while they are in, they start to melt a little bit. You can do it both ways, but the first way is best.

For sure take the bushings out first, if they start to melt or burn you can wreck them real fast.

Got so many irons in the fire right now. Dads been in ICU for a week, bought two trucks, shipper I had broke down so I had to wait for COE. He was cool enough to go right back out and grab my 49' "Farm Use" patina truck which I'm beyond thrilled to have. It is such a nice truck, few minor rotted areas to fix. Its up next right after I finish Geronimo. However.... Its going to be a simpler build using alot of stock stuff and an old school feel. Also have a pretty decent size garage a friend and I are in the middle of buying. Not that I want to run a commercial shop yet, but that option may arise at some point. My life is so crazy with work, family and juggling all this truck stuff, house projects at two locations blah blah. The COE is now back burnered. If I don't get on it after Farm Use, I'll prolly resell it or do some floor repair first then rehome it.

I will start a thread for "FarmUse" soon. Here is the Geronimo update. Still dabbling with the firewall and now pass side cowl. I'll be coating some areas soon and seam sealing. Cab is coming off very soon so I can finish frame. Welded up gas tank hole and an antena hole. Decided to mount the MSD box on firewall. Fuel regulator will be relocated to inner fender or I'll make a bracket to bolt it to the head.

got the AC/heat bulk head in

sorry to hear about your dad, he is a fortunate father to have a thoughtful son.

is your shipper a local guy? I used a guy from meadville on my brothers recommendation.

Funny how life is a balance, for me atleast. can't have too much good without bad. He has been sedated the whole time. They trying to get him off ventilator then they can see why the one part of heart stopped working. Big wake up call for him I hope and for me to cherish having a dad. best thing in the whole world to me is being a dad, I love it more than anything.

Desert57 I will be moving some stuff soon. as for coffee I can always ship it, or you can make a trip out my way sometime!

joedoh, found shipper off uship he is all over the map. I'll def keep him mind for other stuff. Extremely reasonable on pricing. But... if you got a guy in meadville I'd love the contact.

5-9 Chipping away at a lot of small things. Buttoning up inside of cab and firewall etc. One little thing that bothers me is the threaded bolts that stick outside of firewall that are the dash/steering column support. So I inverted that support to have carriage bolts on the outside. It flows alot better and will look better when its all painted. Got front part of cab all coated. I'll seam seal some stuff and coat rest of cab, then I'll lizard skin it all.

Ordered up some supplies, hoping to spray some epoxy very soon.

Henry, I hope things go good for you and your Dad. On the not so serious side, hang on to the COE, they are getting really hard to find for a fair price. When you get the time, build it right and drive the piss outta it. You will find you will get more enjoyment out of it compared to any other car of truck you will ever own. In the past I have had an AD, a cool street rod, a Porsche, MG, and still have a '46 1/2 ton and a FFR Cobra and none of these hold a candle to the fun and attention the COE bring.
Rob
P.S. or just sell it to me cheap, that will work good also.

as for the COE, I'v always wanted one and with some future plans I have brewing, I think I may make it a rollback tow truck. gonna build the 49 farm use truck next, prolly sell it even though Im in luv with it. I need to fund some other projects!

Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA

Hey guys, I'v been swamped with life and took a month off on the truck. I'm hoping to start back on it today actually. I have some final prep to do under cab and on firewall, getting close for undercoating and paint. Then onto the chassis.

I bought a garage in my hometown so I'v been working on that a little bit. May start my 49' Farm use truck in there. I haven't done anything with the COE and infact I may actually have to sell it. I hate to, but I have not money to do it how I want it done, lack of time also. With the the garage now I have more bills I just can't seem to keep up with. I knew it would be a struggle but if I got through it all, its worth it. I'v been really trying to step up my coffee business too, roasting myself now. Also my printshop, we just purchased some equipment that will drastically improve production capability. So I'v just got my hands in all my endeavors right now. Not to mention family and summer activities! Good news is, my dad finally came home after 2 plus months in the hospital and rehab.

thanks bob, yeah this spring was super stressful between getting the COE, farmuse, the garage, my dad's whole situation. Seems like summer is flying by. Money has never seemed tighter and I'm not even funding a build right now. My girl got a job so hopefully that will help, but it does really cut into our schedule now. Life is good though, can't complain. I will have some pics for you guys soon.

Sorry haven't been on here in a bit. been mad busy with summer. took another month off the truck but I'm back on it.

as most you know I bought a garage, ironically with the guy I'm building geronimo for. So we own this building together. For now its just a private deal. I'll work on my stuff and if he gets something in to tinker with. its a good investment I think, has an apartment upstairs that needs alot of work. The garage was def neglected, so we been cleaning it up and have alot more to do. It has a room in the front I could make smaller and also an office. It can really only comfortably fit two projects.

with closing costs it was about 30k, I couldn't build one this big for that. plus this is a commercial lot, good location, has a lot in the back, 200 amp service, a lift already there, plumbing etc. so now my plans are to build and sell another truck and pay my half off asap.

For Geronimo. I still need to finish up the body work on firewall and get it in primer. Seems to be never ending. Same with the dash. I then need to do steering column, doors, headboard, roof, all of inner fenders and rad support, before I spray epoxy. My goal is to get the cab on frame asap, so maybe I'll just do firewall first. I need to top coat the frame and finish the back half of frame.

I got the inside and out of cab all coated with chassis saver and Raptor liner. I really like the Raptor liner esp for spraying it. I used Herculiner bf and its ok, just can't spray it. The rustoleum stuff is terrible, their paints are good but not their bedliner.

as you can see I have NOOO room in this garage to have the cab off and work on it, its frustrating but I just have to deal with it. Thats why I want it back on the frame. oh and I need to clean up the trans and mount the actual trans bf I put cab on, so it just never ending.

Purdy!

I feel like i'm in the same boat...trying to get the cab on. Just need to focus on one area and work on it.

Keep it up!

Garage space looks killer. You have plenty of yard for spare parts rack, extra cabs, frames haha

joedoh 07-20-2017 02:29 PM

Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA

way to go idaho! looks like there is an auto parts store next door (I googled it), thats a great location and great exposure!

invest in an alarm, something with video cameras. it sucks to say it, but every friend I have known with their own shop has been broken into and didnt know it till the next day. losing a welder or a plasma cutter or both will ruin your month.

Henry,
Congrats on the Garage. Looks like a ton of room. Great thing about it being commercial is you can make as much noise as you want with out any nosey neighbors whining.

Is it close to home?

PS: the coffee is great!

Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA

thanks guys. yes I aim to get a security system. alarm and cameras. The one bad thing about alarm is.... this is just outside city police jurisdiction, so burglars would have way too much time to take stuff bf state boys showed up. So I'm debating on that, at this point every bill is adding up to fast. Cameras I think would would help some, put some outside too. I'm a bit hesitant on putting any major tools in there right now. Its right in between my house in town and my mums house where I work on trucks at both places.

property is pretty cheap in Titusville (birthplace of the oil industry). But the flipside is, just small down whoas, not many good jobs and or businesses. Its ok but I travel far for my work as do alot of people here. Ironically this area had the most wealthiest families in the world at one time from the oil. now its a pop of 6,000 and not very wealthy. There are only so many houses or commercial properties that will be available for sale. let alone anything I could afford, so that's why dove in on it. Time will tell what amounts of it.
