Killer work on the shifter mod! looks great. I never heard of the oxy-map mix. I have the map only, but I need to check into the oxy.

This task will take a little longer. i am going to try and gain some storage back that i lost in the glove box. I'm gonna try and make a slight bump out to meet the back of the console and add a compartment for maps, papers etc. I will need to carpet it. Anybody got any ideas as to where I can get a little carpet for it without paying an interior shop? http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...%3A34%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3A234%3Bnu0mrj |

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Today just a few odds and ends as I had limited time. I ordered some of GMC Paul's push on door weather stripping. The glue-on type were less then stellar in my case. They kept coming loose and needing re-glueing. They installed with a rubber mallet in about 10 minutes and very glad I ordered them. Doors close fine.
http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...A8534%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...B5325%3Aot1lsi http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...39834%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...39734%3Bnu0mrj After fabricating my overflow tank holder out of the 2nd battery tray I freed up some room for RAM AIR. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...24634%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...%3B34%3Bnu0mrj So, here is the beginnings of the Ram Air System. I just need to order a few flexible joints and the in-line air filter. I may hold off on that though. Not a necessary expenditure at this point. It can breath fine as is, but dyno numbers were dramatically better with cold air and a lot of it. Not too much money to free up some HP. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...39534%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...%3C25%3Aot1lsi Now I am just waiting on some seat belt covers on back order and a couple free days to finish the box for behind the seats. |
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Those weather strips look good that's probably the route I'll take when I get there. I always hated the glue on ones

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Today did a little more work on the rear cab box. Got the woodwork roughed out.
http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3B734%3Bnu0mrj This pic shows a bump out above the center section where the console sits. This will serve as general storage for maps, papers etc. I also started on the body work to smooth it all out. When I paint it, I don't want to see wood grain. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...A5634%3Bnu0mrj 2nd coat of filler. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...A5734%3Bnu0mrj I also got the amp all wired up and passengers seat ready to go in. I had a few extra factory connectors so used them. Just need to run the RCA cables from DIN to rear cab now. Of course I am still waiting on the inner seat belt covers. These are holding me up at the moment from finishing the interior. Grrrrrrrrr! http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...25634%3Bnu0mrj As a side note, while working on the rear cab box, I have had to remove the console lid several times to make room for fitment. I noticed two things: First the console lid wouldn't open vertical and two, they supplied tapered machine screws when flat screws were needed for the piano hinge. Typical LMC type stuff. I had to make a little spacer for under the hinge on the lid side and voila console lid opens vertical and is extremely tight with flat head machine screws. It may actually stand up to a little use and abuse now!? |

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Interior progress...I mean, interior done! finally received the seat belt sleeves. They are not long enough, but they serve the purpose I needed them for. They elevate the belt and make it easily reachable even with the console.
http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...99634%3Bnu0mrj Got the rear box installed and bolted using these long flat brackets. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...99834%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...99734%3Bnu0mrj Today I also received a couple tow hooks I picked up on ebay. Would love to have some original 72 tow hooks, but just can't justify spending $375 for two hooks. Perhaps when the price comes down. In the mean time these are late model gm hooks and bolt right onto the frame in the old hooks location. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...99934%3Bnu0mrj Last, but not least, the seats went in. I was very pleased it all still fit together with carpet etc. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...%3B34%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3A234%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3A334%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3A434%3Bnu0mrj |
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Looks really nice! Aside from stereo install, what is left? You must be nearly complete now. "Interior done" must have felt really good to add to your update. :ennyd:
|
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Hey Rick! Yes, felt really good to write interior is done.
Really, all that is left is install stereo, get exhaust done, install WS/ wiper arms, seal front outer grill and install and get some miles on it to see if I need to work out any gremlins. I may have forgot a few small items, but that's it. Can't wait to drive and go to some truck shows. Chris |
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Tow hooks installed. Went into original holes. Just had to open holes a little bit. I also made backside washer brackets using angled steel.
http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...78634%3Bnu0mrj Today I should wrap up the front grill, W/S wiper arms, stereo and SS sill plates. |

http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...%3B34%3Bnu0mrj I have been working on the grill a lot. All together spent about a week sanding the aluminum grill. First 220 then 320 then red scotchbrite. It came out pretty nice. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...A8334%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...A8434%3Bnu0mrj http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...A8534%3Bnu0mrj I was looking for a product that would seal the aluminum so I could keep the brushed look and not have to worry about re-brushing. Found this stuff online. Supposedly it impregnates the metal and seals it for up to 2 years. We'll see. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3B325%3Aot1lsi http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...%3B34%3Bnu0mrj |
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Give that shine and seal a try I would like to see if it changes the appearance of the brushed aluminum.
|
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Test panel first? maybe on the back side?
|
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Well, I am happy to report that Shine Seal works and it does not alter the finish of brushed aluminum at all as far as appearance. In fact, I used it on my brushed chrome mirrors and machines aluminum wheels. It not only didn't changes the appearance, but it seems to pick up residue that you can't see left behind even after cleaning. Everything looks great. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Today I finished the grill. Riveted the metal brackets back on and filed the holes for new plastic mounting nuts. The new nuts are rectangular not square. I guess they fit after market grills but not old original grills. http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...3B%3A5ihot1lsi http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...eg%3Ccf8ot1lsi It all want together without issue. I think I have to remove the bumper though to get it back on. I didn't disassemble the front end so don't know. http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...%3Cee4ieot1lsi before the grill goes on I had to do the ram air inlet work that sits behind the grill. I bought an air horn and with some trimming and massaging it worked out great. I also stuck some galvanized mesh in there to keep large objects from entering the inlet. http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...8g%3C6feot1lsi here is the reverse side of the core support. All ready to run pipe to the intake. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...%3A25%3Aot1lsi |
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
I like the air horn!
|
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
The air horn looks good where did you get it
|
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
I got the air horn from ebay. One of those 4" import aluminum air inlet's for import cars. I ended up cutting it and using just the smooth front curved area.
Seemed like a better solution than a ton of air hitting a flat surface and trying to find it's way in. I did have to trim the headlight bucket support brackets on the core support to get the inlet to fit behind it, but did not effect structure of headlight mount. Chris |
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Thanks for the info I will check out Ebay
|
Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
I hope you don't mind me bringing this up but the wire meshing you put across the opening has me a little concerned, i'd keep an eye on it as i don't trust the durability of it holding together for a long period of time, i know ya got an air filter in there but i don't know if a piece did break off if it would possibly damage the filter? maybe a heavyer mesh like expanded steel? just a thought.

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Today was a good day of some more odds and ends. I was able to finally get the grill installed.
http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...8g3%3A86ot1lsi http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...e27%3A88ot1lsi It took a little finesse, but eventually she went in. I was shocked at how well it all lined up. I also painted the headlight surrounds with black enamel pin- striping paint. The headlight bezels needed to be brushed so they would match. So body panels are done now. http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...73f73c58ot1lsi Next I installed the stereo. Not very eventful. Just wired some connectors and stuffed it all in the dash. http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...B2d6%3B3ot1lsi http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...54%3B%3Bot1lsi One additional item i have to find a place for is the microphone for the hands-free feature of the radio. http://images1.snapfish.com/23232323...dhee9947ot1lsi After working so hard on the ram air system I needed to build a fender bracket to support all the eventual weight of the tubing and air filter. This bracket bolts to the fender and cradles the 4" tubing to eliminate sag or joint working loose. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...%3C25%3Aot1lsi |

:four::ele::two::clap: I do need to put the battery back in and make sure the electric and stereo are working properly before venturing out. I must say the electrical is by far giving me the most nerves about driving this thing for the first time. Can't help thinking about an electrical fire burning my work to the ground. I do plan to do a writeup on vendors that were great to deal with along the way and I thought I would do a small video about posting pictures here in the forums since so many people find this less than intuitive. Anyway, Reno is not yet on the road so more to come. Chris |

That's awesome your that close. I miss placed my collectors I looked for them last week end no luck. be looking the week end for them and my body bushing. Good luck on the maiden voyage.
