Pic of the motor before we got the oil system on it. Those heads are layed over so far at 9 degrees. It makes it look huge. |

Firewall after a good massaging for clearance. Fresh paint and some added touches around the bars. I used to use seamsealer around the bars but it would crack and come out. |

Top all fixed. Its dirty in this pic but fixed. If I hadn't fixed it. In another year or two it would have been too late. |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Nice updates. Good thing you fixed that drip rail issue now.

Doesn't look like a 16 to 1 Piston does it? |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
No it really does not look like it would go that high. But a very small camber on such a big bore, it don't take much, but it looks like a dish, how big is the dish in the piston top?
|
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
I cant remember the dish ( or inverted dome lol ). The heads are now 62cc's
|
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Good to see you are still at it. I so got to get back to work on mine!
|
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Kind of freaked me out when I saw the sump picture, thought it was an L6 wiht huge plug wires.
Is that rust I see in the bores on post 368? |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Nothing to worry about. We were running it on Q16. It is an oxygenated fuel. Thats why the piston looks a little crusty too.

Average hp and tq from 6300 to 7800 1270hp and 950tq. This was on Sunoco Maximal fuel. Had we tried the Q16 again it would have been worth 3 percent more power or better. |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
POWA house right there . BA #s man . Lots of hard work to get to that point .
|
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Thanks Hotrod. Over 2 years to get the motor together. Once we get my header situation figured out I can start putting it back together.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
I’ll be happy with a little more than half that. Thx for the Thanksgiving update!

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Hey Regan, pretty sure I recall you were running a Turbo 400 with a 2.48 1st gear correct? If so are you still running that ratio? I know you are on a throttle stop, but when you have done a full launch how was the 1st to 2nd shift?
I'm running a 4.56 rear gear now with a 32.6" tire (next tire will be a 33), I'm building a new 400 for it and thinking that the 2.48 might be a bit too violent behind a 615ci BBC off the line, motor should be in that 1200hp 900trq give or take range, est shift point 7800, but until its on the dyno these are all just numbers off of past builds the shop has done. Anyway wondering if I should do a 2.10 1st gear instead. |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
I have been running a 2.10 low with a 1.31 second gear for years now. It can still be a little violent. The stock ratio is definitely a no go.

Regan or 71Dragtruck,
Have either one of you guys tried a glide? I've been toying with that idea myself, but am making nowhere near the power that either of you two are making. I know there are a few different low gear choices available for the glide. My main reason for considering a glide is traction on a less than ideal track surface. Just curious if anyone has went that route. |

I'd say Hutch ought to know, then. I just figured that, with that kind of power, maybe a 2-speed might calm things down enough to be of benefit. Sounds like you have things covered, traction-wise, with the 4-link and being more able to compensate for the hit of a 3-speed. |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Some guys with 400’s that have the valve body to run the trans brake in 2nd have launched that way too I guess, if your trans is set up for it. I’ve never seen it, just read over on the yellow bullet guys talking about it.
Sorry for taking your thread off topic Regan, guess I should have started a new one. |

Yep, sorry about the thread hi-jack, too. You guys kinda reminded me about one of my off-season projects. I do appreciate the info from you both.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Rick thanks for the compliments. I see you found the extra power you were looking for. You been keeping that a secret huh? My plans right now are to have the truck back together by the end of January (fingers crossed). Then go test in February, maybe at Extreme Raceway or Ennis. I plan on my first race being the Houston Divisional March 22nd.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Yes we did find a few more hp. Motor didn’t like the Sniper Jr so had some more work done to the Super Victor and a few other small tweaks. I Passed by The new track towards Dallas last month and Looks like a nice track. Good luck and if you need any pit crew help let me know. I could help you out in Houston as I’m only an Hour from the track

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
I just brought the truck back home from the chassis shop. My old friend Tony Smith that built the cage, rear end and headers. Tony cut the 2 1/4 step out of the headers and rebuilt them with 2 3/8 all the way to the 5' collectors. He also made me a neat little alternator bracket and a T-Stop solenoid bracket that will double as a spring bracket for the throttle.
