Re: AD Truck Project

The motor is out and gone. Many thanks to Scott for bringing over the cherry picker. When he got here I had the last motor mount bolt loose and had put a jack under the motor and broke it loose. I just had to lay in the funky cab and remove the pedal for the floor starter.

Next thing I guess is removing brackets and cleaning. Also gonna see if it is light enough to move it out and change the flat rear tire.

Man, this is coming along! I can't wait to see how this one comes together... after seeing it come apart.

bjcaldwe 10-13-2010 04:26 PM

Re: AD Truck Project

To this point it has been more coming apart than coming together.

But thanks all the same.

It may be a week or two before anything else noticeable gets done. I have been swamped this week. I brought home a caddy column. It is tilt and telescopic but I think it is not going to work out well. I probably need a tilt column out of a van. I also brought home two 235 75 r15's my dad is not using to mount up on my rear rims. It will be me some decent rolling stock for now.

Stuff is on hold right now. Dad was up here for some tests Friday and got about back home and they told him to come back. I have been at the hospital all weekend. So, priorities have changed for awhile.

Hope everything is ok. Keep us update on pops man! Also let us know if there is anything we can do.

Re: AD Truck Project

The cancer has spread to his back in a few spots. So, they are starting spot radiation probably today. He will probably stay with me for a few weeks while they do that. Ive got nearly a month of leave saved up, so I can take him to whatever he needs to go to. That will give mom a break.

If he feels up to it, I will set him up a chair and we can piddle with the gmc and he can get his mind off things. I will be making on push on his car to get a few of the minimum things necessary to get it road worthy so he can maybe get to drive it some.

I appreciate the concern guys.

scotts62 10-25-2010 01:24 PM

Re: AD Truck Project

If you need a hand on his car to make it where he can drive it and enjoy it then I'll lend a hand or whatever I can do even if it's making a trip to Lawton or hooking onto the trailer to bring it to town ;)

Re: AD Truck Project

I appreciate it man. We will see. Gotta get past this first part. He takes radiation today.

Basically I need to finish up the rockers so they can be at least primered, jam around the front and rear windows so the glass can be put in. Then the wiring harness. Im sure there are some little odds and ends but that is the main stuff where he can legally drive it.

Re: AD Truck Project

If its right there and ready to paint why not paint the whole thing? Just curious thats all.

bjcaldwe 10-25-2010 03:44 PM

Re: AD Truck Project

I do not think it is ready to paint the whole thing. There is still body work to be done. Just trying to get the minimum done so he can drive it a bit just incase the worst case happens. I probably just need to drive you down there some day and let you take a look at it and give an opinion. We are very new to the whole body work deal.

I am open to all suggestions.

JohnC 10-25-2010 03:54 PM

Re: AD Truck Project

I will help in any way I can too. If I'm nothing more than a gopher for parts. Anything I can do man just let me know. Even if it's not vehicle related.

scotts62 10-25-2010 04:37 PM

Re: AD Truck Project

Well maybe plan a weekend day and go down there to do a bunch of body work to get it ready for paint would help out a bunch. I'm up for it just get him better and home and we'll make some plans to do that.

Sounds like a plan but who is going to wear the dress and paint their nails???

bjcaldwe 10-26-2010 02:10 PM

Re: AD Truck Project

Orrie...I could do one or the other but not both...

For the record... I preferred Courtney over AJ on that show.

That is cool. It may be a few weeks before he is out. They have to get things stabilized. But as far as that goes, I have keys to the shop. I would need to clean up down there a bit.

Believe me if things were a little better I could work it in with a trip to visit my wifes relatives and some of my military buddies in Oklahoma and Kansas. We are kind of isolated here in the mountains. I will channel good vibrations bj's way, I went thru cancer and related lung issues with my Mom for 10 years and now they think my Dad may have something going on too.

Re: AD Truck Project

Yall will be in my thoughts too Orrie.

Re: AD Truck Project

I got a moment to work on my frame a bit. I got a few brackets off that would be in the way of the crossmember. I also removed the passenger side shock mount.

In the mean time Dad is out of the hospital. He will be staying here at my house for the next two weeks, while he goes through the rest of his radiation. The first thing he did when he got out of the car was good look at the truck.

The last bit I got done was some measuring, and kinda mocked up one side of the crossmember a bit.

i agree we should have like a saturday or sunday where we all tag team the car or truck or whatever needs to be done. if we all double up theres no reason we shouldnt be able to get the wiring and stuff no problem.
