Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I got home from work and went straight to the garage. The first job was to cut down the repair panel so the join is under the rocker panel . That way no filler is required over the join
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psb45da2e4.jpg Once marked it was then cut to match the cut on the repair section http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pse1c1bd47.jpg Next was to offer up the repair section http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps83070fe2.jpg Once lined up it was out with the welder http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psbe83ce04.jpg After welding it in place I offered up the rocker panel with no sign of a repair section fitted http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps9b99d15f.jpg Job done |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
We'll I got a little bit more done this afternoon. After I got all the usual jobs done Saturday morning . I went into the garage and got the inner rocker and floor section welded in. Another step nearer if only a small one
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psbfd5cd30.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pse999dbf2.jpg Next step is to turn it back over hang the door and fit the outer rocker . Then start all over again on the other side |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
I was tempted not to post up these pics as requested, as Martin would rather search out all the Cherry Bargains than take photos........:mm::mm::mm::lol:
Thanks to Don for posting up the early pic I texted through to him. Mate Martin, Disasterbus and Jim and I met up early today to go seek bargains for our vehcles. Spured on by all the bargains he got last year, including a door for his truck at £100.00, new front screen rubber for a tenner and a full new cab mount rubber kit for £35.00 we all had our skates on. And it was Martin who drew first blood with a lovely pair of old skool bullet shaped chrome lights, with interchangeable clear or red lenses. Through the day we all found real bargains and items we wanted or needed. Kerry, Disasterbus got a brand new full rear rollpan for his truck at £40.00, that he will probably bring over soon, to weld up and probably paint at my place. He also picked up a lovely old sideplate sized V8 hubcap for garage art. My bargain of the day was a pair of 2.5" used stainless tailpiece tips that took me an hour or more to clean up with metal polish. Not perfect, as I really wanted a set of square/rectangular Range Rover type tips. But at £10.00 for the pair, I had to have them. Here then are the pics, as they came off my mobile phone camera. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfwdiv5m7.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pswogdmrkg.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psl5bbdacv.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pswuij7110.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psy2i2cy9x.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps1dnqro8v.jpg I have also wanted a pair of bumper over riders as long as I have had the truck, this vendor was prepared to let me have these for £25.00 although they are Pre-60 items, and if I could make them fit, I would then have to get them chromed, so the voice of reasoning suggested I wait till I find a pair of chromed ones, so I walked away. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmcu3xuhd.jpg Dead cool hearse, sounded rather nice and quietly menacing when it drove by later. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqizdctkv.jpg I think I would like one of these....... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqd9zadw5.jpg At that price I ask myself, what did the seller pay for it and to land it here? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscxblldnn.jpg TECHNOLOGY !! LOVE IT !! Martin Googling some pics to show Disasterbus what his Stepside would look like with a rear rollpan fitted. Of course that made the decision easy. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbxp263si.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscfjeyevo.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstpyjzljh.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnyic3cqv.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfx0jrpqb.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps5xbpgmwn.jpg 60-66 Chevy C10's seem to be suddenly picking up in presence and value. Again a great Swapmeet, meeting old mates and finding bits needed for builds. Just needed to be warmer. |

Well this is the my little haul . Not as good as last year but still ok . Like Rian I got at shirt (note to one self make sure not to wear it at the same time) Some small cutting discs, a set of Allen key sockets, and two circular hole cutters and best of all two small chrome lamps with interchangeable lenses White or red to fill I the holes in the rear bumper .
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psdd7ce69f.jpg While at the show I got a text from an eBay seller. I had bid and won on a push bike £25 very cheep for a Marin 21 speed mountain bike . So after Rian had left my house myself and Amanda took a drive down to Dover to collect it http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps1e2d35b0.jpg So a good day had by all |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I scored this yesterday . At a dealers it's amazing what goes in the metal skip . Rian was proud of me . Last time it was a tow bar for his truck this time it might be a rear bumper for Kerry
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps4eab844d.jpg |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well yesterday I got a call from a customer, that I had previously done the adaptions to his car . He informed me that it was going back to the dealers to be exchanged for a new one . As it was now three years old and the lease was up . After a chat he informed me that the supplying dealers had booked the adaptations with another company and he wasn't very happy with there service . I have done his last three cars for him, so he asked if I would remove the old hand controls as he may need them for a project . The electric handbrake fitted to the car he didn't need so if I removed it I could keep it . So I removed the unit and put the car back to standard . Once I had finished I had a chat with Rob the owner and told him about Russell's play station controls . It looks like he may have a new use for the hand controls I removed after all . Looks like I may be building another play station seat again
This is the electric park brake I removed the plan is to fit it on the truck so no more knee nocking and my polished steering coloum will look nice and neat http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps0fe4adcb.jpg |

I know they cost a lot of money, but a push button handbrake is really going to clean up, but also be a cool addition to the build. I found you this clip, knowing you want a spot welder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrlvqib94xQ How about building one for less than $10.00? But you have to look out on bin day for a broken, or discarded microwave oven. The rest of it, oncluding woodwork, we can do here. Redneck engineering with a twist. |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Microwave Oven Spot Welder, Noooo, that's not redneck...:haha: |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well today's job was to go to the local Nissan dealer and fit the hand controls to Russell's new road and track car . It's a Nissan GTR NISMO . If only I could get away with putting the engine in the back of the van for the truck .

I'm not a fan of Japanese cars but this is one sick car. A friend at works Brother in Law has one. All wheel drive plus turbo. Lots of fun. I can't imagine driving one with only hand controls though.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well today I had to go and fit a hoist in the back of a Ford Explorer (kuga) in the UK . Once I had finished the job I called George , as he only lived a 15 minute drive from the job . Now let me explain who George is . When I used to manage a car body repairs, George was one of the employees that had been there longer than anybody else and with a wealth of experience . Being retired for over eight years now he spends most of his time playing in his blue grass band and repairing string instruments , including making banjos that he plays . So when he offered to repair my front grill I was very pleased . So I called in to see how he had got on . Well all I can say was wow most of the big dents had been knocked out and he was starting to work on the smaller ones . While I was there he also found an air chisel to give me . He has already given me an air sander , an electric rattle gun, an air saw and best of all the electric nibbler as seen in earlier posts
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psc81816e3.jpg And no he wasn't using the air chisel on the grill |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
It's good to find /know folks like George. I love watching these guys work, hoping som,e of their knowledge and skills will osmosis themselves to me.

I don't know about America but in the UK . A lot of the skilled workers of a certain age are all retiring . The younger lads don't want to go into auto body repairs . They can earn more money sooner by going into retail or computers . The trouble is with auto body repairs, you have to do an apprenticeship,so the money isn't that good at the start . At an early age you want the best pay you can get as soon as possible not in three years time . |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Hats off to George… :metal:
In my business, 25 years ago when I started out apprentices had to learn the ropes with no pay involved, lots of sweeping, mopping, and cleaning first… then off to the drawing and tracing, then we even learned needle making… most new tattooists nowadays wouldn't know how to put a needle grouping together to save their own lives., Rant over…:m6: Enjoy and glad to see the grille shaping up...:mm: |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Quick road trip this evening after work to collect some eBay wins for Grizz and Martin as the seller was closer to me than either of them and shipping was expensive.
I’ve roped them into helping me do a few jobs on my truck this weekend so I’ll deliver them to Grizz’s place when I pop up there for a C-10 working party on Saturday morning. The seller was a really nice guy called Mike who happens to own this beauty. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psej3dghp2.jpg He’s not on here (yet) but I’ve told him what a cool and friendly place this is so hopefully he’ll sign up and we will see a bit more of his ’66 truck. Anyway, boxes of goodies on the way to Martin and Rian…………. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psfgvh3ulx.jpg |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Wrapped up, new bolts, assembled and packed away.
Not bad for an amalgam of Jeep Cherokee and Mercedes A Class tow bars. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2izl1qwx.jpg Remember the kart frame I bought last year? Meet my crashed 2005 Honda CG125 with only 14k miles, and a bent, buckled front end. Think marriage or Frankenstein. Bought off Martin's step son who crashed it at recovery/scrap value, it will be stashed in the garage till the right time. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstd47uq4g.jpg Today was booked at my place for Kerry, Disasterbus and Martin to come over so we could do some jobs to Kerry's Patina 64 Short Stepper. Kerry had picked up our spares earlier this week including my pair of expensive but on inspection really good vent or quarter windows. Today he swung by Martin's place to pick up the little buckled Honda for me on their way over here. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psp7li4rcv.jpg So when they got here, I had Kerry reverse his truck and the bike down the drive, then we all had a cuppa tea and a chat, followed by unloading the bike and all the parts n bits Kerry and Martin had brought along. One of the planned jobs was to weld in the rear roll pan bought at the NHRA Swapmeet recently. But before that happened Kerry needed to try out the Ford side step that Martin had managed to rescue from a skip a few weeks ago as a potential rear bumper. As it was before. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pswyjzuehz.jpg A lot to be said for car ramps. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0frpflmf.jpg Something useful from Ford. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psx3la4yxj.jpg Some cutting, twice...... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0tw8kd2s.jpg Got the bumper to size and gave Martin some toys. Modifying Kerry's straight six, which is soooooo sweet !! http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmax7wnuy.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslbtkwil2.jpg Later on we were joined by MercDan and his petrol head son George, Ian our former housemate, and Mickey next door were all here. Ian's main job was to do all the cooking, he is an accomplished "Tong Master" and managed the BBQ brilliantly. Through the day, we were joined by Ta2Don traveling across America, so everyone did a Hallo to Don here. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxzhpgphz.jpg Don and JoJo doing backseat driving duties. Somewhere along Interstate 81 in Salem, Virginia. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psdpirge5a.jpg Later, passing a Tennessee flag, about an hour West of Knoxville. Just love technology...... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psct7o64ks.jpg In the mean time, Ian carried on with the cooking duties. At some point we all poured into the house and scoffed ourselves stupid on three types of sausages, spicy chicken wings, pork belly, chilli chicken breast strips and rolls..... A proper mans BBQ. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstjzisdz7.jpg After lunch we carried on with various jobs, electrical mainly, Martin sorting a load of bad connections, and fitting new switches in the cab etc. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psucks7tfy.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgsppm7po.jpg Kerry fixed and fitted the rear bumper. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnst06vp5.jpg And finally the highlight of the day........ New lights under the bumper as well. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pseevjtvnp.jpg |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well my day started at 7am getting Michael's bike ready and the vehicles out of the way for Kerry to turn up at 8am . Rian had asked me what we were going to do with it , as Michael had passed his motorcycle test on the Wednesday. I had gone and collected him a bigger bike on Thursday , due to the rules after passing his test he is able to progress to a larger bike . So there was no point in mending the small Honda . Rian wanted the engine for his cart frame so Kerry being the nice bloke that he is and passing my house on the way to Rian's had agreed to collect it for Rian . These trucks do come in handy
The replacement I collected http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps60cc2266.jpg Kerry reversed onto my drive ready to load. The damaged little Honda http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5d649ae8.jpg Bike all loaded up ready to take to Rian's house http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps6525b051.jpg Once we turned up at Rian's house Kerry found it a little tighter to reverse onto his drive than mine http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps601810db.jpg After getting the Crome side step out of a ford main dealers skip it's amazing what can be achieved . The little lights fitted to the rear I had purchased at the swop meet earlier in the year looked so good on the back of Kerry's truck, that he twisted my arm to sell them to him , as they looked better on his truck than mine . So it's back to hunting for something to fill those bumper holes . |
