I'm guessing my cab needs to go back more? Guess I have to get rid of the horn things. Don't know if I need to notch the cross member up to clear the drive line? Got some different wheels, just stock 2x4 s10 don't know if the tires are going to work out yet. Put my heads on the engine.

Re: Daverods 52
I like the new wall mount. Are you gonna run a raised gas tank crossmember? I've decided I'm gonna run a sd 5 link, but I'm building it myself. I talked to Jason today and I got to order it all monday. He's got my LCA's for me.

Re: Daverods 52

:me2::no: That ones way to nice.;) I love the rain, I get a lot done on my truck.Don't make any $$ but.

Re: Daverods 52
Love that two tone, I was actually just thinking that I want to do a metallic brown body with a creme or white top, similar to this but a little more pop. I love the patina trucks the most, but ya gotta love the two tones.
love that fridge too, I want that. also I noticed as well, but not sure if you moched up the engine with rad yet or not. But on your cab it is before the rear cab mount. On my longbed s-10 frame, I made my own cab mounts but the mounted right in the area that the rear mount was. So to me, it might look like the cab needs to come back. Not sure with your particular set up or not. also did you take out about 5 inches off the back of the frame? |

I took 5 1/2 out of the center. My back of my cab sit just about where that horn lookin mount for the orginial cab was. I'm just noe putting my engine in so things could change. I move my engine back 1 1/2 from the orginial engine was. Got my other running board on.

Re: Daverods 52
Only had my bag mounts tacked on. When I put my bed on it was to much weight. Blew both mounts off the frame.BANG BANG. Luck I had a couple jack stands under the bed. Bent the mounts up. Beat them into submission and welded them back on for good.:lol: Hope I don't have to move them.:waah: Have to get some 205/75r15 for the back. The ones I got at the junk yard are too wide. 10"

Re: Daverods 52
Good tacks will hold up, Guess your not getting any penetration.

Re: Daverods 52
I dont think you understand young grass hopper. I said GOOD tacks will hold. But you weld it all up to withstand the punishment.

Re: Daverods 52
alright fellas, don't rock the boat.
the dog pics are killing me. I want my rot back! I gave up a female pup to my friend not long ago. Are you gonna fire that engine up on the stand or put it in and do it? If so I would wait to put the front clip on, that way you can access the thing a bit easier. |
Re: Daverods 52
I'm going to put it in and fire it up. Paul knows I'm just messin with him. He knows my welding skills rock.;)

Re: Daverods 52
Your right Dave, your welding does look like scattered rocks, But your grinding is awesome!

Think I'll just use the s10 trans cross member. I'll just have to make it more narrow and change one of the ends alittle. Need to get some metal for a tran hump.:smoke:

Re: Daverods 52
It did'nt rain today so I had to go to work. Nothing done on the truck. I once was lost but now I'm just fine. :waah:

Re: Daverods 52
Dave you should live next to my neighbor, he thinks he's Kid rock. Grew his hair long and made it blonde, wears all the gold jewelry. Mostly every song he plays is Kid Rock's old stuff.

I like the old stuff too. He was cool before he became kid country.

;) Used the old s10 trans crossmember. Had to move it back alittle and change the ends. Put the old steering column in and figured out how to hook that up. Go some less wide tires 215/75r15 had them on my horse trailer so there were like new and did'nt cost anything. Thay should fit alittle better. The 235's where way to fat to use with a zr2 rear end. They'll work on my trailer though.

Trip to the junk yard got a slip yolk for my 700r for $15.:metal: Even came with a driveline attached. The driveline was out of a van looks like it could be close to the right size.;) My driveline guy is out of town for 2 weeks.:waah: Sells little gaint ladders on the side.:uhmk: Guess I got other stuff to do.

Re: Daverods 52
daverod, I use poster board on the more harder shapes like the tranny tunnels. It is much cheaper than steel for screw ups. I made the lower piece first in metal and put it in, the cut the poster board to close the shape for the upper part of the tranny tunnel. Then took my dirty hands and rubbed on the edges of the metal and it puts a dirt line on the poster board. Then just cut on the dirty line and check to see if it fits, then make out of metal. Hope that helps.

Re: Daverods 52
I'm sure there will be some screw ups involved. Good idea. I like how yours is arched. I've seen some that are more angled.;)
|
Re: Daverods 52
daverod, I brake formed it first then put it in the air panishing hammer to to radius it.

I want to use the orginial steering column. I need to put a bearing on the end where I cut it. Classic wanted 40 plus ship for the bearing. Found one in town for 8. Gets here friday. 3/4"X1 5/8" A hair big but I think I can make it work. Not sure how it gong to slide on? Now if I could find some steering u joints for 8 I would be set.:lol: Some guy told me he used a swivel head for a socket wrench.:me::lol::lol: Do the smooth bore u joints just weld on? Do you think I could grind the shaft and make it a DD or is smooth ok?

Re: Daverods 52

If it is a tight fit try freezing the bearing so it will get a little smaller. Works for getting them over shafts too.
I have broken more than one 1/2" universal by applying to much torque with a cheater, one area you do not want to compromise. Grinding for DD would be preferable but you can use a smooth shaft, just pin it. I pinned and spot welded mine except for the slid part, it is a DD. The overlap is about 4" inside, the slip joint has 3" travel to allow for body to frame flex in the hills. The set screw is tapped and threaded thru the outer and halfway into the inside shaft. |

Yes the smooth bore u-joints just weld on, and yes you could grind the shaft to make a DD. The most important part is to make sure the u-joints are in phase. |
Re: Daverods 52
I was wondering how I was going to get the bearing to fit. Exhaust shop great idea. It's only about 1/16 to big. I guess I'll just tack it to hold it in place.;) I'll put it in the freezer over night.:metal: Thanks Guys.

Re: Daverods 52
What are most of you s-10 guys doing for a wiring harness?:ito:
|
Re: Daverods 52
dave,
im in the same thought process for my project. About the same place you are. The freezer won't help much for a 1/16. Exhaust flaring sounds pretty good. I have seen someone on here score it in several places, then drive the bearing in, swelling the column shaft in the process. Looked like that would work as well. A search should help you find those pics. stan |
