I’ve been making some progress on the wiring as time permits. I made a good start on the interior but ran into an issue with mounting the vintage air evaporator. I smoothed my firewall early on without considering how to secure the evaporator to the firewall. I think i have a solution but put it on hold. I jumped into the rear harness and was able to get it routed along the frame rail to the rear of the truck. I used the ebrake firewall hole to exit the cab since i don’t plan on installing an ebrake.
Another issue i had was i didn’t consider the taillight housing when moving my filler hose up the rear stake pocket. In order to get it to sit flush, i had to modify the terminal location. It came out pretty decent. Lastly, i installed my taillights. It appears when i ordered them last two years ago, they shipped me two driver’s side parking lights. The new one is on order. |
Re: 67 SWB First Build
Nice progress! I have been thinking about mounting my evaporator to the firewall too once I can afford to get it. Since I'm hoping to keep my firewall clean and not have bolts coming through it, I was doing research for options a while back. I believe that full custom fab has a bracket that mounts to the floor below the pinch weld and thus there is no need for drilling through the firewall. I found this info somewhere on this forum but I can't remember where specifically.

I built the evaporator bracket out of some scrap sheet metal and some flat bar i had laying around. It’ll mount above the evaporator, on the cowl. I think it’ll work okay.
I also mounted the condenser on the core support. What a PIA it was to install with the grill already installed. It took some time, but i was able to drill the core support and route the lines. It’s slowly coming together. |
Re: 67 SWB First Build
That home brew bracket looks like it did the trick, nice job! How did the ping pong paddles come into play

Built a Dakota Digital control box bracket that’ll mount to my brake bracket behind the dash bezel. The kit came with the BIM module so i mounted it although i won’t be using it. Maybe down the road…Attachment 2321675
I’ve been working on getting the interior all wired up and it’s starting to come together. I still have to figure out where I’ll route the control box sensor wires through the cab. Attachment 2321676 A couple shots of the engine bay. I have the headlight harness and the AC harness roughed in. Each harness is tucked behind the inner tub and I’m trying to mount under the core support top lip. Not shown in the picture is the new battery tray in the original location. Attachment 2321677 Attachment 2321679 Lastly, I installed the new LED headlights. They have the LED bar in the middle that I plan on wiring up for turn signals. Attachment 2321680 I’ll continue to slowly chip away at the wiring and maybe get some other pieces in paint over the holidays. |

Knocked a few more things off the to do list.
I ordered a replacement AC control panel about two years ago. After wiping off the dust, i got the harness and new faceplate installed. Fit was great. I installed my cup holder as well. I’m sure I’ll have to take it out when i install the carpet and seat, but i couldn’t resist. Attachment 2322390 Gauges are about ready to go in, just have to wait for new j-nuts now :smoke: Attachment 2322391 Started buffing the cab. Looking good, although there is a little bit of orange peel still. I decided to keep moving forward and if the little bit of orange peel bothers me, I’ll fix it. Just too anxious to get this thing done. Attachment 2322393 Happy holidays! Attachment 2322392 |

I set out on a goal this past week to get a handful of parts painted and installed. High build, sand and seal coated the parts by Wednesday.
Attachment 2328238 Shot paint on Thursday. The color is a Toyota color called cement gray. It has a slight pearl to it. Very happy with the contrast in colors:metal: Attachment 2328239 Grill trim, headlight buckets, emblem and front bumper installed. Reinstalling the trim was a total PIA with keeping the fasteners seated. That was definitely a frustrating couple of hours, but it came out nice. I’m really liking the look:chevy: Attachment 2328240 Next goal is to get the doors put together. |
Re: 67 SWB First Build
i like it! progress is looking good

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Did I miss the post where you talk about closing up bolt holes and mounting the bumper? It looks fantastic!
|
Re: 67 SWB First Build
good catch..i didnt notice that. looks a lot cleaner than the bolts showing. do they take a separate bracket to mount?

Thanks for the compliments. I did the mod a couple years ago. It wasn’t terribly tough from what I remember. Fit it up how i liked it and then welded the bolts in place and removed the head. Then just some body filler and sanding to make it look smooth. It installed with no bracket modifications. I’m really liking the look, too.

Reassembly continued…
I spent a few evenings prepping and painting misc interior pieces. Then another few nights installing the freshly painted pieces. Attachment 2331274 Attachment 2331276 The glove box door turned out okay. It has its flaws, but overall I’m happy with it! Attachment 2331277 Reinstalling the door guts was more time consuming than i thought it would be. I also need to clean the window glass still. The Altman door latches work terrific ! I’ll jump onto the driver door reassembly over the next week. Attachment 2331278 |

Small updates. I’ve been very focused on getting as much of the interior put together as possible. It definitely makes for easy satisfaction! AC ducting mostly installed. Waiting on adapters for the reproduction defrost vents. I also got to installing more door pieces.
Attachment 2333821 I currently have the precision door seals on. Even after all the threads i read about difficulty shutting the door, I thought mine would be different lol. Needless to say, I have new Honda seals ordered and on their way. Hopefully they work as good as everyone says they do! Attachment 2333826 Attachment 2333822 In the meantime while waiting for some parts, I’m taking a run at re-doing my seat upholstery. After some minor seat frame repair, i took the frame to the blaster and I’ve started diving into the foam repair. Attachment 2333823 Attachment 2333824 |

Interior progress continued over the last few weeks
Spent some time fitting the foam. It wasn’t terrible other than the big mess it makes. I also shot the seat frame with some black paint i had laying around. It turned out great. Lastly, I had to replace the broken pull cable for the seat adjuster. A quick trip to home depot took care of that. Attachment 2341467 Attachment 2341471 Attachment 2341469 Attachment 2341470 I also was able to install more interior pieces. The interior door arm rest and the headliner went in smooth. I ended up using adhesive tape for the headliner. We’ll see how that goes. Seat belts showed up yesterday, so i through those in. My seat cover is on order and should show up this month! Re: 67 SWB First Build
Progress looking great!! It's definitely a lot of work, but it's paying off tenfold. I'll be following the rest of your journey.
Any tips for putting the door interiors together that isn't covered in the videos and guides? |
Re: 67 SWB First Build
Nice repair on the seat foam and seat adjustment cable.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

I found a really good video on youtube that went through it pretty thoroughly, plus it was straight to the point which was nice. I disassembled the doors years ago so it definitely saved me time from the guessing game. https://youtu.be/Zay64xBOgD8?si=mTnr2gc9TBux4cJE |

Update.
Been spending the last month verifying tolerances on my engine. Made some decent progress with getting the pistons installed. Hope to get the cam installed in the next week. It has been a fun learning experience for sure. Last night I jumped into the reupholstery on my seat. It wasn’t too hard at all and turned out great. The repaired side feels awesome and you’d never know it was repaired. Attachment 2348450 Attachment 2348451 Attachment 2348455 Attachment 2348453 Attachment 2348454 |

Weekend update. Waiting on parts for the engine. I went ahead and got the back window installed with my brother. I had to laugh at the stickers  they’ll be coming off eventually.
It took lots of soapy water and had a small minor tear on the interior corner but it looks good. The tear isn’t too big and should go unnoticed. |

Road block on the engine. The camshaft that came with the 383 kit is having issues clearing the piston rods. After researching it, it sounds like I’ll have to either clearance the piston rod bolts or get a small circle base cam. Disassembling the pistons isn’t sounding very appealing….
In the mean time, while i ponder that decision, I’ll just admire how far the truck has come. |
