Well, I always seem to end up that way pimpston. I just like to be a little different than the run of the mill stuff. It definitely looks cool though.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Man that is cool! I'm pretty sure the first time I saw a cross ram intake was in 1966 auto shop. The shop teacher had a 56 Chevy wagon with a small block and dual quads on one of those. Talk about teenage nirvana!
I guess it just gets spendy when anyone diverts from the standard SBC. My son had an original 401 Buick rebuilt and that set him back over $4 grand. And they suffered lengthy delays waiting for some hard to find parts to show up. My wife encouraged me to keep the 305 V6 in the truck, but back in 1992 I could only find one shop willing to work on it, and the cost for a rebuild would have been over $2500. And that was at a time when a new 350 crate motor was right around $1,000. It was easy justifying more power in a lighter package! |
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Man that 409 IS mean...did you hear the power output? lol Wow! Worth the money in a rebuild in my op. That would be a sweet motor to put in a truck for sure. I'll just put a turbo on my hopped up 292. lol :chevy:

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Thanks for the comments guys.
Have been doing a lot of research on the 348 lately....and stroked 348's to 438ci using a 454 crank. Nice thing about the 348 is the super thick piston walls. And parts are readily available for the 348/409's. Pricey, but available. Still a ways off, but just trying to figure out the direction I want to go with it. If I can find a cross ram, I'll pick it up. If not, I'll probably use the 409 380hp intake and keep searching. Either way, it'll be a fun build. |

Figured I'd drop some info in the fleetside as I haven't updated in awhile. Setteled on a 3x2 carb set up since I couldn't find a crossram and this is the one I picked up. I plan to restore the intake and want to go with a factory look since I went a little different on the stepside. Still stockpiling parts. Have around 90% of what I need to put this one together. Will get some more pics up soon as I'm just about ready to start this build.

That'll be sweet! TKO600 5 speed would be nice behind that. ;)

But this gives me a nice donor intake, carbs and linkage to work with. I'll put the aluminum 409/380hp intake up for sale. The TKO600 would be nice, but this one will be more old school and I'm sticking to the OEM style build so it'll get a powerglide behind it....same as the factory. |

Looking good! I know next to nothing about the engine you're using, but very cool that you've decided to do something different!

Went back to do some catching up, besides looking at the email notifications, and just read about the Powerglide behind the 348!… Well Played Sir! :metal:

Sorry for the delay in updates. Putting some more parts together for this one. This will be my sons project to do together when he gets old enough to turn wrenches. Will be getting this one up and running over the winter now that the barn is completed. Updates to follow....
