Nope, take the front pc off and thats it. Yes, definitely plenty of spot welds. I can see why though. The front piece is a much heavier guage steel than the rest. I guess its a big part of the support that ties it all in. Not sure about hugy. I'm sure he's hangin' some place.

I got it all POR15ed and some pin holes welded in. I'll get it mocked up and clean all the spot weld places, then weld it up. I picked up some new rolock discs, Blaze by Norton. I think they are going to last better than 3M, way better than the cheapies. These were only 21.00 for a box of 25.

No progress.... Moved a deck and a out building around at the house this past weekend and I'm still recooping after that, lol... I was flipping through some pics and came across this blazer. I really like the chrome wheel well trim. Mine may end up with some.... Ran across some other neat pics too...

Great progress---one thought though--make sure you are getting that upper piece aligned very nice to the frame. If it isn't, you will wind up with a broken windshield as the strain on it will come and go with the flexing of the body so you want no high points or low points in the frame for the rubber to sit in. You may have to hammer it a bit to get-er-done just right.;)

Heres the windshield frame all welded up. It lined up perfect and went in pretty easy. I think I had every small clamp and visegrip I owned on it, lol. Several that saw it laughed and made fun... All thats left to do to it is strip and epoxy prime it. Along with a healthy dose of seam sealer... I also modded a stock fuel fill cover to fit my needs. I Spread it out some, then cut and filled the bottom to cover the filler tube. The next thing I need to do is strip the bed sides and get some epoxy primer on it so I can get to finishing up on the body work. But what fun is that.... I think I'll fiddle with the truck top I cut off first. On to the pics....

I'm trying....

Piddled with the truck roof tonight. I'm thinkin' I don't like it, at all..... It wouldn't be hard to brace it up, weld some tabs to bolt it to the windshield frame and to the rollbar light tabs. I can picture it complete with paint and the blazer lookin' all nice. But it still just doesn't look right to me. Any suggestions?:5150:

It's probably just because it's new and differant to you, you're used to seeing it one way, give it a chance to grow on ya. JMHO, but I think it looks good on there. If my hardtop mod. doesn't work out, I'll probably go your route, but I have to make it longer...Nice progress!

I think that you have the largest collection of clamps on the board, LOL

Anyway to move the tubing forward and tuck it under the metal roof section?

Do you have any pics of it from above or above/behind angles?

Geese...that almost sounds perv-ed. :alky:

I agree with Jim, give it some time & I'm sure once you get some more sheet metal (doors & fenders) on it, it will take on a whole new look. :metal:

I knew they'd come in handy one day, lol.... I was at a local tool store that sells close outs and they had 80 gallon drums full of vise grips. 2 for 8 bucks.... I loaded up and bought some Christmas gifts.

I can't move the roll bar forward but I think I'll cut the back of the roof then bend it up to go over the roll bar. Then weld in pieces to fill the gaps. The roll bar behind it is mostly whats bugging me. Nothing wrong with perv'ed.... Perv'ed it funny:mm::smoke::lol:

You fellas must've missed my thread in the general discussion forum. Do a search for Hooters in there....

I've hatched a new plan for the metal top. I'm gonna cut straight across from side to side about 6" from the front. Weld some tabs on it to bolt to the windshield frame and make bikini top that will snap to that instead of the windshield frame. I think, lol.....

No real progress lately, yard, pool and work stuff has kinda taken over at the moment. I did however score a fine original tailgate last night. My wonderful uncle sent me to a CL link in Cincy. I left work/Louisville at 6 and got up there around 8:30. Kind of a creepy situation. I pull up and there is a hurst with a coffin in the back..... All kinds of old cars parked around the area too. It used to be a car lot. The guy was pretty nice. He said, "follow me"....
He opened a big glass door and there I saw around 200 or so caskets! All standing upright in rows. The tailgate was around the corner next to one. I was glad when he told me not to worry they were all new and empty! He did offer to sale me one or two. 300 bucks a pop for the good ones, not made in China he says, what a sales person.... I did think about it. The last one I bought (and it looked the same as these) ran 5 grand, had a dove embroidered in the lid so it was well worth it, lol. Well I got the tailgate and it rocks! Just some surface rust and a couple very small dings. The latch spring is even tight. The parts that catch on the sides look new too. I have been informed its a 67-68 tailgate. Here are a few pics...

Those are color samples from http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/homepage.htm

They have some great prices. I'm really leaning toward using the base/clear and the spray in bedliner they sale. They've also got a dedicated forum to all the products they sale. I even talked to the owner. Can't do that with PPG or Dupount.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

Its all good, hugy is welcome here anytime.... I've been attending to yard work and what not..... Last week I planted a 600' hedge line along the back side of my property. I've still got 24 siberian elms to put in the ground. I planted 168 already.... Talkin' about being ready to go back to work on the blazer, its way easier than landscaping..... I did get some good planning time in while diggin' the holes. I've got several more little adjustment to make before that final coat of epoxy primer....

Thanks. If I man up and paint it myself, that orange is the way I'm leaning. I was looking at another orange by RM but it was around 700.00 a gallon.... :waah:

Stole a few minutes tonight and welded up some trim holes and speaker wire holes in my doors. One pic shows why you measure twice and drill once. I don't know what they were thinkin' with the speaker wire holes.

Welded up some pin holes and fixed the rockers. They were bowed in at each end.... So I just sliced both ends toward the middle bent it out until against a strait edge then filled it in. No biggie. But I think thats all the welding I need to do!!! Next is stripping the bedsides, doors, and tailgate then shooting the epoxy primer. Then some filler work. Then some sanding. Then some filler primer. Then some block sanding. Then some more primer. Then more blocking. Then paint!:chevy: Theres more ta do but I figure everyone knows that.:lol::lol:

Stripped some paint today. I used aircraft stripper, yay.....
Nasty stuff. I didn't have chemical proof gloves or paint brush. Melted several pairs of latex gloves and 3 paint brushes. Word of advice, buy the right tools if your going to use this stuff. I did use a respirator, this stuff is bad to breath.... I got down to last layer of paint and then some. The stripper didn't seem to affect the primer I shot on to protect the parts the guy sandblasted. I think I'm going to finish it up with some stripping wheels. Should cut right through whats left. Hopefully the bare metal I got done won't flash.. Heres some pics of the mess. :uhmk:
