Forgot to post this. We got the truck home from the bodyman a couple of weekends ago! Looks awesome! The door skins are in primer, along with the fender tips and a few dents Abe fixed on the bed. I snapped a couple of pics, but I haven't downloaded them from the camera. I'll post them soon! We are very happy to have her home... :metal:

We're not sure yet...on either one of those questions. It's hard for her to decide a color.

Let me know I can talk to my brother (actually I already told him you needed the truck painted).

Cool! We'll be out of town this weekend, but maybe one of these upcoming weekends we can cruise over to your place to get a ball park figure. We want a two-tone with side trim on this. She's leaning towards a 'Cascade Green' and Pearl white, with a fawn or pewter interior... That could change though. It would be nice to get an idea for a price.... I've also comtemplated doing it myself, but it's really difficult without a place to do it... besides, she really wants this thing pretty close to perfect.

This is the two-tone scheme we want: :ito:

Hoser, that truck wouldn't last 10 minutes parked on the streets of the O.C.

Just outstanding! :metal:

A lot of people say that. We like it too, but I doubt we'll keep that color. That was the P.O.'s choice of color. We can't have that.

Actually, for this cruising season, I'm going to buy a couple of quarts of that "Paint Shop" paint that Duplicolor has, either White or Grey and do from the waist line down, and possibly the top and back of the cab. So it will have that blue on there for a while longer. Until we have the funds to repaint it completely. :chevy:

Something like this:

you should repaint it just like truck in the pic you poster showing your idea of a two tome paint scheme.ill admit i dont like two tone but on certain vehicles it does and i think your 65 would look nice painted that way

Actually, lately we've been kicking around the idea of keeping that blue (or something similar) but with a pearl white roof and 'trim strip'. Who knows. As soon as we see another cool color or scheme, we will probably change our minds again.

Anyhow, last night was our 4th anniversary as a couple and when she got home I welcomed her with a card, a bottle of wine, a rose and her heater box...freshly pinstriped. She loved it!! Thanks D-Ray!!

I'll be installing it this weekend. :chevy:

Great aniversary present, and having a wife that appreciates it. Good for you both.

Just a note on the Duplicolor lacquer paint (or any lacquer paint) - it's a very easy paint system to use, even for a novice, and can be sprayed without a booth. It surface dries instantly and any defects can be corrected right away, and can be rubbed out to a fantastic finish.

But - if you choose to do the truck over later with a professional quality hardened paint (like any of the urethanes) all of the lacquer will have to come back off first. It's makes a very poor substrate for anything but more lacquer. It's similar to dirt versus concrete. When dirt gets wet it turns into mud, and when it dries out it turns back into dirt. If you get concrete wet, it remains concrete (like hardened paint). You can reliquify lacquer by wiping it with lacquer thinner, and the strong solvents in hardened paint systems may dissolve the lacquer ruining an expensive investment in new paint (as well as making a big mess).

I painted my truck inside and out with gloss black lacquer 10 years ago. Last year I repainted it and wasn't up to disassembling the entire truck again to remove all the lacquer, so I reshot it with unhardened tractor enamel because it's the only thing certain to go over lacquer without lifting it.

If you just want something that's cheap and easy, lacquer is the ticket. Just use caution about doing the door jambs, inside the cab, or between the bed and cab, because it's going to mean a lot more work later when you can afford a better paint system.

Love the heater box. One of the best looking I've ever seen.

On a side note, you might consider rerouting the fuel hose up the front or back of the head instead of directly over the exhaust manifold. It looks precariously close, but could just look that way in the photo.

I went out yesterday and checked that fuel line. It was an obsticle delusion in the pic. It wasn't as close as it looked. I got the zip ties out and tied it and some wires back anyway.

Thanks for the heads up!

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Well the '65 has 4 forward gears now. The th350 lockup we had in it kept randomly "locking up"', which got pretty annoying. So, since Lisa's brother is a transmission specialist, he built her a 700r4...well actually two...the first one has some weird thing already done to it and it failed. The second one works excellent! She also order a Lokar shifter which will be getting installed very soon. She's not really comfortable with the original column shifter that's in it.

I'll post pics when I install the new shifter... JC62
