Damn, two months and still no body on chassis :waah: where does the time go??
We have been busy working on our burb and since firing it off for the first time (well, few times now) my son is more anxious than ever to hear his  Time to start working in that direction. We weren't completely happy with the no name intake and smallish 650 carb we've had on this, so decided to swap them out for a Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake and Edelbrock Thunder series 750 carb :metal: (I think I was annoying my son by stopping him from touching up the block to take a few pics...it's the simple pleasures in life that mean so much :lol:) We also had the rad hold down powder coated silver vein to match other parts and pieces (we will use the same on the cage and whatever else is powder coated). Also had the fan shroud rhino lined to protect/stiffen up the fiberglass...really liked how that came out! So...rad, rad support, shroud, fan, and whatnot went on in prep for fitting the cab/front clip and hopefully kick out some cab mounts in the next few weeks?? |

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
It will be interesting to see how much the truck weighs when finished with all the holes vs. all the new additional steel.

We're quite sure that we are adding weight to the truck , just not as much as without holes...really just a theme that we enjoy! |

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
I know you have probably said it already, but what brand dies are you using and what kind of press? Its a real smart process. You remove weight and add rigidity.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Top of page 5, posts 101-115 has info for the dies both directly from the manufacturer or through Ebay. Mosely Machine in TX makes them in-house relatively cheap...either 1018 or 4140 in a variety of sizes. We got the 7-pc, 4140, drilled set...makes it easy to use them on the pieces that don't fit in our cheap 20T press ;)

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Randy,
You have an excellent looking start there. You should begin working on it and start your own build thread with the help of your son. It is great to see these father/son projects. Thanks for sharing your pictures with us...makes me want one like yours and the one in this build! |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Hey ya'll, thanks for the cool comments. :metal:
We've been out of the loop for a bit with a recent move out to the country (few acres/couple shops) :cf: Been in the new place for a few weeks now and still trying to organize it all...we're not done, but making progress. We did make settling in to one of the shops a priority and actually moved the cab over on to the chassis just last night. I think my son has some pics to post up :uhmk: We still need to clearance the firewall a bit before moving the cab into where it needs to be (an inch or two forward) but he's been goofing around with the bed parts to get an idea of how it's going to look. |

Thanks for taking the time to comment...always cool! We're anxious to get back in the middle of these projects, having space will let us work back and forth on them at the same time...no more more stacking/unstacking to make room to work. The first few weekends were spent getting the shop "office" whipped in to shape...trim, paint, carpet, and guy stuff. The Texaco can lamp/table (collection of broke parts) was our first project in this place :metal: |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Looks like you guys have broke a few outter axle shafts by the way that lamp is built..

Thanks Dino!!
My boy and I worked a bit on fitting the front clip into place to help position the cab before jumping into making cab mounts. We still have a bit of tuning, but it's pretty close. Hope to have the cab locked down next weekend. |
