Thanks Dennis, I'm getting stuff done, but tonight I need to beat on some metal but it's too late to start making noise.:sumo: I'll find something to do. Going to get this sand blaster tommorrow give me your thoughts on this unit. If it's any good or not. Ronnie brought some parts over that had been sand blasted for a while and has some slight surface rust. The parts are the core support and H/L mount panel. I can sand most of it but not all. I think it would be best to hit it again with the blaster

Same one I have. Offer him $100 even. It's funny you ask about the sand blaster. I was using mine all day today getting in the nooks & crannies on the Lark. What a PITA the clean up is. I had to sweep up all the sand, and sift the dirt out of it before I put it back in the blaster. I did that all day. Then when I was done I had to clean the whole damn shop. There was sand everywhere. :waah: But it did a great job. Do you have a Sandblast Cabinet? If not that's a must too. The next piece of equipment I'll get is a solvent parts washer. I'm getting tired of using spray can brake clean.

That was going to be my offer. I don't have the room yet for a blast cabinet, but I have been looking for a deal I can't pass up. A parts washer would be nice too, but that is at the bottom of the list for now. I could have used it on my tear down. I use a bucket with mineral spirits and a squeeze bottle for now. Thanks for the input.

Ronnie you mentioned a roll pan when you were here saturday, what are you thinking now?

Alan that's a good blaster. I have a HF one. Mines a 40lb but doesn't have the water trap. The hoses on mine were crappy and need to be replaces. It's basicly the same unit as that one without the wheels. I paid $70 for mine. Make sure you use blasting sand. I used play sand and had to sift the hell out of it. Also Harbor Freight has black diamond for like $7 a 50lb bag. I use the fine grit. works good! I would also say try to find a real sprayer handle for it. You'll know what I'm talking about after you use it.

What do ya'll wear for protection. I have a clear face shield, I know the sand will destroy it,. I have welding gloves and a bodyman's HEPA mask. I wish I had a hood, but I don't.

Thats a hood for sandblasting sitting on it. I use welding gloves also. But what's very important is to ware a respirator like when you paint. Sand is nasty stuff. I look like a space man when I'm using it. My wife called me on the phone while I was blasting. I had to take everything off just to answer it. She pissed me off. She could have come out to the shop to ask me the question. Not phone me 90 ft away.

That blaster looks just like the one I bought at HF for $99 I think it's only 40lb not 80lb. Did'nt say the gal size. Mine works good. Even came with a cool little hood that lasted about 2 hours:uhmk: Used it to blast my cab. Made such a mess I haven't used it since. I'm need to get a bigger compressor.:waah: Maybe for Christmas.:metal:

i got a $5 welding hood and took out the dark lens. and staped a t shirt to the back of it to keep the sand off of it.. I made it into a positive air hood so i dont need a filter. I have a snap on 150 lb unit. works great.. I have a queston though.. what about using glass bead instead of sand. shoudnt be as agreasive or heat as much and i can get it for less than sand

Those blasters work pretty good. I also use an old welding helmet with a clear lens. I would not use it inside the shop though. If you lay down a tarp outside its a good way to reclaim the sand used. I buy the fine sand from the local hardware store about $4 a 50lb bag.

Strodder where did you get the spray nozzel on yours? mine is just a ball valve with a tip. I used welding gloves and the hood that came with my blaster but it sucks.

Re: 198Plus build by Alan's Classic

Thanks for all of the feedback fellars on the blaster. I did pick it up today.

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00673.jpg

I've never messed with one of these. I put some pressure on it and it works. Don't have a manual, but this looks like it's an adjustable bleed off. I didn't mess with it yet. It starts bleeding pressure at 70 psi. It is adjustable right?

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00674.jpg

Going to look for a dead man valve. I called tractor supply and was put on eternal hold. Never found out what they had in the store. It needs a new tip. A piece of the ceramic is broken off (not visible in pic).

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00675.jpg

Got the outside of the tailgate nearly ready for primer. This is what it looks like on the inside. Still in process of sanding.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...d/DSC00677.jpg

Also called to get a price on color and clear. I'm going to mix a little at work and spray a panel to make sure it is what he wants.

Strodder 07-29-2009 10:25 AM

Re: 198Plus build by Alan's Classic

I get 125 psi from mine, and it looks like yours. Mine isn't adjustable. Why don't you call the company or look them up on the web and ask what the pressure should be? You want to be save. Maybe it's supposed to be at 70 psi.

Pressure relief valves usually have a ring attached to a shaft. ????

The pressure relief is actually like a regulator. I cracked the jam nut loose and adjusted it to 100 psi. I called the manufacturer up in Grand Rapids, but never got a call back.

Alan you should look into getting a nozzel like Strodders. The ones that we have a cheap and clog up real easy. They do have diffrent size tips though at Harbor Freight. I know on mine I was putting 90psi and it never let air out. I think mine said between 70-125psi.

They had the stuff at the store. What a cluster that was. I get the employee with a bad attitude. This is what I picked up today. The hood I got for $8 cause it was missing the lense. The deadman was on sale for $15.99.

This came from Ace I told them what I wanted and this is what I got for $3.29. Then got it home and read the back.

I'll see what I can rig up for fresh air. I've got the HEPA body man mask, fresh air would make it better. I could Get a race car helmet that has the fresh air duct on top of it.

I got to work on Ronnies for about an hour today and I looked up at my shelf along the back wall and it was about ready to come crashing down. Just something else I gotta fix damn it!! The wife helped me get everything off of it after I put a brace under it. That would have been a real big mess. It would have fell on my truck if it came down. I'll get some pics later. I'm just glad I saw it.

Glad you caught it in time. My son just moved to a different house, and he put a lot of his garage stuff up in the garage attic. Next day he went in there and the sealing was bowed down and about to fall down. At the time he still had furniture in there that he hasn't moved into the house yet. He wedged in some 2X4's to hold it up. What a mess that would have been.
