ANd then the mounted pics!!!!

Oh ya, did I ever mention that my girlfriend was all for me getting my truck done? With some nice new wheels....Not to mention she thinks it looks as good as I do and is more excited then any of us!! I think it had some to do with the fact that she did not want me driving on 30 yr old tires ... Shes the best though!!

I cannot wait to get the front done and see the stance, I will have it one more inch higher in the rear with a piece from Porterbuilt. The rear is actually 8" lower right now instead of 7" Over all shes going to rock!!

Nice! that fills the hole..
Are rear disc brakes on your wish list?
I like the wheel combo good choice.

You bet, but nothing to high on the priority list until the body work, motor. and interior are finished. Oh, and the rear drums will get a fresh paint of black paint before they are bolted up

This truck surprisingly stops fairly well.

It will at least have a built chassis. All new rubber, bushings, suspension, steering, bearings, seals everything.

Not to mention that my 30 yr old tires were so bad they started chunking rubber the day before the tear down. LOL I did not want to buy even cheap tires cause I knew I was headed this route.

I don't think I can wait that long! I'm sure its killing you to be so close to driving with the new stance.

yep, sure is... have till 2 to get some work done on it... then its bed time for work.

All this week I could not get much work done between running into problems etc, but I get home at 930-10, eat, feed dogs get to work by 11. Then I have to leave by 3 to pick GF up and get home at 445. Then i have an hour at most if I have nothing to do before I get very tired and want to relax.

Just caught yet another snag!!!!!!!!!!!

My inner tie rods are to big to fit in the factory steering crossmember!!! AHHH

The threads are probably 9/16" and it appears as though I need 1/2" or so maybe 7/16"

im researching part numbers now

Figured out the tie rod problem. The part number everyone uses for Moog parts is for a 73-86 truck.

ES409LT DOES NOT fit the stock centerlink

youll need part ES403L

vegaschevy 01-29-2010 05:15 PM

Re: Project NOT4SLE

Since EVERY auto parts store lists the wrong inner Tie Rods from Moog no one stocks the correct ones. So I am SOL till at least tomorrow and maybe until Monday.

So I will upload a few more pics from building this up.

This is the way the nut is. It is tightened inside the cotter key hole. I am not sure why the hole is so far out. I put a cotter key through it and it should be fine.

If you are running Coys youll have to turn the snout down on some rotors. Mine you did. They also have a shallow cap that needs a shallow dust cap on the snout. took less the 5 minutes on each rotor and the cap fits perfect with this dust cap

Re: Project NOT4SLE

i also need to install my centerlink and inner tie rod ends but since I have to wait till tomorrow to get some Moog ones or maybe even till Monday I decided to throw the front wheels on and set her on the ground. I also threw on the other rear wheel to get the perfect correct stance.

I have a part coming from Porterbuilt to raise up the rear but I am not sure if it really needs it. I think it will look better with it.

Also, I could have gone with a 255/40-20 tire for sure, i have plenty of room with a 4.5" drop in the front!

so we are technically sitting at 4.5"/7.5" drop

Re: Project NOT4SLE

Do you think you could go with a lower spring up front without any issues? Not suggesting you need to, just curious since you thought a 255 could fit.

Any concerns with bottoming out in the rear with a 7.5" drop? Did you notch the frame?

To me the front is sitting high... is it me?

highperf4x4 01-29-2010 11:59 PM

Re: Project NOT4SLE

I thought it looked high too but it's hard to say without seeing it from the side.

The drop is a little low. It may be closer to an 8" drop. I have a spacer that is being added to my rear to make it 6.5-7" drop. it will look better and make it a little more level with the front.

I do ahve a Cnotch and I am not 100% sure I am bottoming out. It is possible the shocks are bottoming out but I am not sure.

Ya, the front end may seema tad high. Ill be raising the back 1" or so so it should be perfect then and maybe aa tad ass high.

I could EASILY fit a bigger tire or go to 5.5-6" drop in front

The truck is coming out great...:metal:...

I see you went with 295/40/20 in the rear which is the same size I have in mine when I was doing the rear end yesterday and took the rear wheels off I saw markings on the inner side of the tubs on both side so it seems that even though mine have about an inch clearance on each side they rub when the tires warm up seems like they expand if this makes sense.

May only do it when your crossing a dip or bump at an angle?

I do not think we have quite an 1" on both side of the tire. I think it is closer to 1/2".

But I do feel that when you hit a dip at an angle it rubs the side. When I lifted the rear up to install one side of the wheel it hit the inner side of the bed. very little angle difference makes it rub

Re: Project NOT4SLE

Maybe the front looks so high because the rear is so drastically low...

:agree: Just like when you only had the rear done the front was higher than stock. Once you raise the rear 1" the front will come down...

Whoa. I'm not sure that will work for long. Since the rearend doesn't stay level with the truck from side to side. You won't even need to hit a dip just a slight twist in the road to make one rub.

Re: Project NOT4SLE

highperf he also said hes raising the rear up about a inch.. it oughta be enough after that.
