Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
:metal: thanks Jeff! i'll pick up the speaker brackets when i start on the interior. 1 question though i was looking last night and the wiper motor looks really close to where the box is supposed to go... i may need to modify the box a little bit on the top? and how did you cut such nice oval holes for the wires to go through?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
exciting news guys... i stopped by to see my buddy Mark who owns Marco Muffler last night after work. He does all high end show quality exhaust. We have been talking about how we are going to do the exhaust since the beginning of the build... So here's the game plan. i know some of you like (Jonboy and Stitch) are familiar with the old fox body mustangs exhaust;) Well IMO that is still to this day the most incredible sounding exhaust note ever(off road H pipe into 2 chamber flows) Silver's exhaust is going to be designed just like that. all 2 1/2" piping down into a flanged H-pipe. Then into the 2 chambered flowmaster mufflers. and 2 1/2" over the rear out to the sides of the bed.... Y'all know how the exhaust looks from the rear of say... a 69 camaro rs/ss? how the tips kinda angle down and just barley peak out the back under the rear quarter? thats how the tips will look except i'm going with a 4" double wall slant cut. the entire exhaust will be flanged so it will all unbolt in pieces, ALL WELDS will be ground down, and last but not least... its all (including the ugly @ss flows:lol:) going to be ceramic coated in the 'polished sterling silver' color just like the beautiful S&P headers. He's going to make a full DVD movie of the exhaust build also:D :metal: no expense spared on this one... but it helps that Mark and the guys love big 2" steaks!
BTW... those pics were hilarious because i have been really thinking about if i'm going to drive her over there or find a trailer!:haha: Amy keeps saying just drive the mf'er over there at 6am:lol: but i'm pretty hesitant without a vin, reg., plates, on and on... gotta figure it out though because thursday she's getting done;) its going to be weird having someone other than me working and welding on her. just like a proud parent i'm staying for the whole days event:D |
Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Well, I think that is going to turn out awesome Dennis, cant wait to see the exhaust completed.

Before you paint or anything, install the box first, then install the wiper motor, it will give you a better idea of how much metel you need to remove/notch to clear the wiper assembly (do it a little bit at a time!). You will end up with a small slit on top, but if done correctly, be barely noticable. |

Can't wait to see this exhaust. Sounds like it's gonna be awesome. There's one good thing about it though. You don't have to wait on a painter. lmao

well guys got more done tonight! modified and installed Jeff's fuse block cover. took most of the night but i had to make it perfect. i ended up just cutting the entire bottom out of the box because most of my wires run through the bottom. i also cut a 1 1/8" hole on the side for the wiper motor wires. i ground down just a small amount on the wiper motor so i wouldn't have to grind on the box for clearance. on to the pics! |

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
That box is calling for body color...but the black looks good too!
You can space out the jamb nuts too to keep the box off the fireall sheetmetal...like 1/8" or so...will prevent any paint damage. Were the instructions good/acceptable? Haven't gotten a whole lot of feedback on them yet? If you like the box, you'll LOVE the speaker brackets! |
