Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I took truck out for its first cruise. It ran beautiful. Still have some air in the breaks. I went to a swap meet and found rear slider for ten bucks and a bench seat for fifteen. The buckets are pushing me too far forward. I like the way they feel but I have long legs and need the room. Took truck down to my moms and took her for a ride. We went over and saw my brother and he remembers my Dad and I driving into the yard in 1972. He was very emotional and it made for a great moment. I was 8 years old and remember it vaguely. I do remember watching rudolph the red nose and Dad asking me iof I want to go get a new truck and the salesman helping me up into the truck. Any way I am very happy to be able to drive the truck and can't wait to get all the bugs out of it.

This was last night. I yanked out some heated coils and finished assembling my front suspension. I installed 2.5" drop spindles with 2" drop coils and did the caster mod by moving my lca forward .75". Had to do a little "massaging" as the caster mod moves the coil forward along with the lca :ack: :dohh:. All turned out great and now I have a solid front suspension that should give me a nice ride. I hope to find out how nice by June and be driving this again :burnout:. It's been a little over 8 years since I parked it. Gah!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Did not do a thing on my '67 yesterday. I did however go to my son's house and help him a little putting the 454 back in his '70 swb stepper.
He had to take the engine out to fix some oil leaks on the oil pain and timing chain cover. I almost forgot he also replaced the oil pan because it was not giving enough clearance between it and the cross memeber. While I was there we talked over plans for the '71 he is building to sell, plans for the work on my '67 swb stepper and the upcoming the car show season. I guess I need to take pictures of his truck and post them on here. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Done for the day!:b69: New plugs(all 8 of the old ones look dark gray), LOF, diff & trans full, dwell & timing both fine, vac gauge shows 17in, cleaned/oiled the K&N, clutch adjust & lube cross shaft, tire rotation, and pulled the drivers door panel off to fix a recent clunking sound. The OO installed chrome metal door speakers, and the magnet fell off & was banging around inside the door.
Rest of the day belongs to me! :chevy: |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I bought a gas pedal assembly and saddle tanks that came off a 71-72 over the weekend from some one at the TMS swapmeet.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Just finished removing old glasspacks and replaced with Flowmaster Super 44's. Welded everything in place just need to find some tips. I love the sound compared to those old rusty glasspacks. Up next is new steering wheel.

Ya. For 200 bucks I'm super happy. Now just need to get some springs. I have some dropped control arms. But not sure if I want to use them. But it would save me some money for now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I've been doing wiring for about a week. I bought a Painless wiring harness, Optishift transmission controller, dual electric fans and controller, oil cooler fan and relay. Trying to meld all of these systems together has been like a slow migrain headache, you think it will go away soon but never does. I probably have about 40 hours in it and I'm not finished.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Nothing, its sat outside taunting me but I've been way too busy getting stuck into a bathroom remodel and now a big kitchen remodel including knocking the odd wall down to extend it in our new house. Just taking five before I get a coat of paint on the kitchen ceiling, whole lot needs to be painted before tuesday when the kitchen fitters arrive with the new kitchen. Got be be done by the end of sunday as the plumber is in monday (should have been done on thursday but our original plumberlet us down at the last minute.
Once I've finished the kitchen I've got the rest of the year with no major projects scheduled so weather permitting she's goinna get some work done on her. |

FINALLY finished applying filler. Just finished with the 80 grit, lunch, then 180, then 400. Hope to clean, prep and shoot SPI black epoxy (as a top coat) tonight!
If all goes well, I'll be putting it back on the frame tomorrow. Though perhaps not, I still have welding to do on the drip rail and cleanup on the upper cowl area and shooting it. I really just want the cab back on the frame! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I drove it to Lawrence, KS for the annual AACA Swap meet. Met board member Teeitup, and bought some beauty rings for my "new" rally wheels. Then grabbed my college-age son, who I don't get to see enough of, and had him go with me to buy some tires off a Craig's list ad. All-in-all, a VERY good day!

The old truck hasn't been moved for about three months, and hasn't been ran for about one month. I try to get over there and drive it around at least twice a month to keep everything going, skipped a few times so it needed attention. I let it sit too long and the carburetor got trashed, a rebuild and new fuel filters got it running like a top. It felt great to get it going again and take it for a drive, I'm going to take it to the gas station tomorrow and add some Sta-Bil and fresh gas to the tank also. The brakes still work great considering it's been off the road for four years already since I got my welding truck. It's going to get an oil change next week, and the steering column bearings need some attention as well as the turn signal cam. The Suburban is still parked, don't have money to throw at it yet. I know the engine is worn out, I have a used 350 to drop in but don't have time right now. My '84 hasn't needed much, just been going through a lot of gas haha.
