Replaced the cab mounts on my '69 C20. I knew the were compressed, but I didn't realize that they were this bad. I'm also getting ready to replace the dented bedside so I definitely had to do this now so I can line-up the trim on the new one.

Well, new toy / upgrade .... a Progression Ignition! I was a bit apprehensive but it went pretty smooth. Well, other than putting my plug wires on off by one plug on the cap - doh!
After following (and watching a YouTube) she fired right up at 10 BTDC. I didn't need to touch a thing (other than my wires). I have to say I get hypnotize watching the little red dot move around. I have a windshield mount for my iPhone and it is awesome watching all the data during test driving. The other part of getting this thing is the lockout, which you enable/disable from your phone. After catching some guy trying to open my driver's door in the parking lot of Target, I'll feel a bit better being able to lockout the ignition. On a sadder note, my newly rebuilt '72 carb crapped out on me yesterday and I had to put back on my '78 carb. I swear I can't win with that '72 carb. Something funky happen after nailing the pedal and just won't run right (like it is dumping gas, making a ton of black smoke, and hardly will idle). |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
'72 Carb is back on, Cliff told me that I likely tighten my bolts to much and that was causing my secondaires to hang open a little. I had told him that I used a digital torque wrench to take them to 15 ft lbs, he responded don't do that and just hand snug them down.
I did this with my hand driver, she started right up with no apparent vacuum leaks. Doing a number of back and forth test drives on my boulevard (to be very close to my home garage) where I got more and more aggressive on the pedal - no problems at all. I figured I did 15~20 foot slams, carb didn't stick. Hope it stays that way! All during this testing, I'm also watching my Progression Ignition app from my iPhone. Freaking awesome ignition / app! PS: So nice for Cliff to respond on a Sunday - that guy is aces. Edit: New response just now after I reported the good news to Cliff - he responded again. Which makes a lot of sense now. Quote:

Not much work done this weekend. Did make a 300 mile round trip down to my fathers house and moved a few loads of rock and pavers in my 67. Great weather to enjoy the truck. Soon as I get my ac going I will be using this truck more often

Worked on brakes to get rid of front hop during braking. I could feel the brakes grabbing on/off if light pressure and barely moving. Jacked up rear and spinning rear tire I could feel brake grab and release during each revolution.
Had the drums turned and yep, out of round. Shop took material from about 1/3 of the circumference. More like half for the other side. Drums were new, so either I did it overheating them or crappy part from get go. Had the new rotors turned as well. All new friction material and hop is now gone! |

Found some more awesome wiring.
The entire tail light harness is butt connector heaven. Who makes a decent harness? |

I got the drivers side door sorted. Was a little close near the top front corner, then adjusted the latch. Overall a real pain with the front fenders on but I got it done. Waiting on some door handle gaskets and new door relay to put the entire door back together and then tear the passengers aide down. |

Spent a few hours under my truck today changing the way the trans crossmember was installed.
When I first put the motor and trans in the crossmember was outside the frame rail and bolted to the rear mount pad on the transmission. I had to put in a 1.5 inch aluminum shim to line up the driveshaft. I never liked it that way and finally got in there and figured out that I could flip it and use the mounting pad closer to the transmission pan. Now it lines up perfectly with no shim. OCD, but seems better. |

Was wondering why my truck started misfiring on my way home from NC . Think the 43ts were to cold for the engine . Engine uses no oil no smoke and never needs water . 5 out of the 8 were nasty

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Thanks for all the comments. This truck is a 1968 K25, from all the research I did on this forum for 68' tow hooks they are the correct hook and mounted the correct way (backward in my mind) for a 67' & 68'. I believe GM produced these from 1960 to 1968. They fit pointing back (correct in my mind) on the 1960 - 1966 trucks because the front bumper/frame is different.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Thanks guys, obviously I was not awake yet when I looked at the hooks, they are not like mine (1971) at all,
mine are like this https://www.picclickimg.com/d/l400/p...OKS-BLAZER.jpg |
