Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
That place is a memory of mine. Many changes since I first came here. a local builder bought it, put in a cul-de-sac, and stuck 4-5 smaller homes in. Lots are big in town. Most places have a barn. They took the barn on this place down a few years prior. They are just now building the last house, which sits right where the old one did. It would have been more tasteful, in my opinion, to have left the old place stand. It was bought for the value of the land, so renovate the place that has been fitting in all along and stick the newer places (where they are) down grade and back where they impact the street view less. I mean, the town is known for its picturesque Main St. He did a good job, but I would have left the old place.
No eyesore. Someone removed the doors, windows, and most of the siding. I would have dismantled the whole thing. That place just needed paint on the exterior. It wasn't bad. The places along Main St, especially up the hill (like this place), were built as summer homes. The town originated as a whistle stop for the B&O climbing Parrs Ridge, people came out of the city to the cooler fresher air. The whole street is lined with turn of the century homes. The ones going down the hill are mostly the same Sears Catalog house. I think this place was one as well, frame house with steep turned gable. The ones up the hill are mostly Victorian. The president of the B&O's daughter built a sanitorium for children out of Baltimore along the ridge. I guess the town might not be here if there had been air conditioning  |

had a flood last month. at one time there was over 6 ft of water on the highway.
Highways dept made them wait till the water was way down so the shoulder wouldn't collapse. the first day i saw it , it was up the front winda 'bout 6". sat in there for a week. Attachment 2154889Attachment 2154888Attachment 2154887 |

kinda weird, all these go up in flames during a flood....
but living in a flood plain, you can't get flood insurance....but pretty much everybody has fire insurance..... Attachment 2154892 Attachment 2154893Attachment 2154895 Attachment 2154894 |
Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
WOW!! The flooded truck left to sit a week was enough. Then the not so small fire?? Jeezy Peezy, that's some real carnage right there! It's like a boat sitting out on the water burning till it sinks. Only this would the whole marina. That sky view really sends it home. Shewee!
And a Hummingbird in the snow?? Certainly never seen that! They are long gone from here long before the first frost |

I took the week off with the plan to work out in my little shop. Snowed day after Christmas, about 6 to 8 inches (quite a bit more other places around here). Next couple days we’re mid teens but no snow. Yesterday it wasn’t bad (still too cold to be in shop) and with the wind and sorta warmer it helped sluff off some snow. Then it went and snowed again last night. Weather app says maybe more? So today will make another day of me not working on any of the projects I was hoping to get done. I have heat out there but it isn’t that effective. Too chilly for my PNW bones to want to work in. Probably balmy in there compared to what you Midwest folks are used to.
Think I’ll start a fire in our little fire pit and sit in one of our overstuffed fluffy chairs  |

Random photo of my pimp daddy Caddy when I bought it. No extra charge for the flat tire. :) Not bad for 400 bucks. One owner and I drove it home. I just need to clean it up and slap some whitewalls on it. It has all the options and some of them actually still work. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...um/Caddy11.jpg |

hasn't been this bad in a few yrs though. the insurance companies know the deck is stacked against them here, so they won't sell it. plus we prob don't have the population like down there to spread out costs, so it's a real cr*p shoot for the insurance companies... when we had a mortgage, they are well aware ya can't get flood insurance here, but they don't seem to care- there all gung-ho on making sure you got fire insurance though as it is, their gonna be on the hook for a few billions anyways, we had massive land slides everywhere, our town was literally cut off from the world for about 8-10 days, every single road and hiway in was destroyed |

Major flooding indeed.
I saw recently on the news a bridge on the colq had washed out. Is that one of those shown? |

actually 4 or 5 bridges on the coke got heavily damaged, and 5 major wash-outs.. their hoping to have one lane open by next month and it will be for essential only (fire, ambo, police and commercial trucks, it's a major lifeline for the whole area) |

After seeing Dieseldawg142 pictures, I'm not going to complain about a little snow shoveling! So very sad to see all that destruction. Did get the 70 freed from it's snowy grave yesterday.

when the water receeded enough to open some roads, this is what we found at one of our job sites. it's a seismic upgrade to a skool roof. we tear off the old roof, then the contractor's crew comes in at night and does the seismic work to the roof, then we come back and watertight them up. as it's the winter, the contractor hired a company to come and hoard the job site (basically shrink wrap the roof). we got very lucky, the hoarding stayed on the side that we had the roof ripped off of, the side that went is not done, but at least we had the roof based in. as it was, there was damage, 'bout 15 G's of water damage and a couple grand of physical damage from the hoarding smacking stuff... check out the water blister that helped bring it down. we cut one blister open and approx 5-600 gallons of water gushed out Attachment 2155096Attachment 2155097Attachment 2155101Attachment 2155102Attachment 2155103 |
