Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yesterday and today I worked on the yard. I dug and cut tree roots and winched them out of the shrubs in front of the house. We have a large Magnolia too close really to the house and it's roots for some reason are running toward and under the house footing. They were all entangled in the shrubs. I intended to just cut a few roots and re-do the beds but the more I dug up the more I found. I found a stopping place today thank goodness.

I locked my painter in the yard today. I was leaving and told him that I was closing the electric gate and to use the other one. No problem. He has the key to that one.

About 2 hours later he calls me and says he's locked in. So again I said to use the south gate. He says he can't because I have all my :censored: cars parked in the :censored: way! That's a direct quote.:haha: He wasn't happy. I told him to just sleep in his truck until I got there tomorrow. He didn't think that was funny and called me vulgar names.

So I told him where the extra controller was and he hung up on me. I just love teasing that guy.

I think that we all know somebody like that. They're not happy unless they're unhappy.

My brother's like that. Always complaining and never does anything about anything.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I got to test my security cameras last night. My phone went off around midnight. The security guy calling. His phone went off. Some weird rattling noises at the house. You couldn't see anything but you could hear it. So he set off the alarm. We may not be there but we kinda are. The noise stopped. So I pick him up and we drive over there.

We look around the house. It's still locked. Nothing touched just like before. Whoever was there ran away. I think it's the weirdo neighbor snooping around. He waits until we're gone. If it was him then he saw two guys with guns walking around checking everything out. He might think twice from now on.

The fences and gates are in but I leave one gate open for the contractors. That's about to end. I'm moving in, putting on a lock box for the contractors, locking up, and bringing Duke the 100 lb. GSD with me. In other words don't even try that nonsense again buddy. You will be very sorry. Only one creep allowed on the property and I've already got that job.

I second that. Congratulations! Retirement is the best. I'm going on 7 years now. Best years of my life. One caveat though. You can't retire from your wife. You still have a boss and plenty of chores.

It's a weird feeling. Not like a regular day off. That's just a day off. When you wake up and realize that you never have to go back it kind of blows your mind.

At least it did for me. I worked my entire life and the thought of just stopping was so foreign to me. But I got over that really fast. It's all good. :)

Ditto here. Four months into retirement and I love it. I am catching up with years of postponed tasks that I didn't have time to attack when work was getting in my way. If I don't feel like working at them on any given day then I call myself into my office and give myself a reprimand, and then head back to my easy chair and book.

Although I missed some of the people and my students, best decision I made was to retire. 5 years now and my health is better and still wonder how I did all this stuff I am doing and still worked full time. Congrat 3757chevy

That is the one and only thing that I miss about work. The people that I worked with and was friends with.

Some other people at work I don't miss at all.

Good for you !!
Go to bed every night telling yourself "tomorrow is Saturday"...
It will take a while for the body clock to change habits. Months...years, maybe never. I still wake up at 5:30 am and can't get back to sleep some days....like today, and I retired from my trucking job 10 years ago. :(

It's just one big weekend from here on out. :)

I used to wait impatiently for holidays and an extra day off. Now I wonder why I didn't get mail and the bank is closed.

Oh yeah. It's a holiday. Duh!

The good -- every day is a holiday!

The bad -- why do it today, there's always tomorrow!

The ugly -- jeez, how did that honey-do list get so long?

Congrats! Like Lost in the 60s said, it may take awhile to get off the work schedule. It took me about 18 months to spool down from getting up at 4:25 every morning.

You're not alone with that day of the week business, I can assure you! Though even back in the '80s when I was in uni and working, I'd sometimes drive over to the campus and wonder why it was so deserted. Burning my candle at both ends in those days. Two jobs and a full load schedule will do that to a person.

Congrats on that Mike. Retirement will feel more normal after some time.
After rising around 4 am for 40+ years my body just won't let me sleep past that time. I normally get 4 to 5 hours sleep but I might catch a quick nap or two during the day. My internal clock is busted and won't reset! I have been back to visit the guys at the old job once a year for the last 3 years. I left it in good hands but that man has also quit and I am sorry to say the place has gone downhill terribly. What a disappointment. I won't be going back.
Also I noticed I often didn't know what the day and date was, as there is no start and end to the week now. My wife found a real neat fix for that. It's a digital clock with day, date and year displayed. We no longer ever wonder just what day of the week it is. ;)

What I did today not on my truck?
Well I dug into the storage unit to see what I could cull to make some room out there and find my chainsaw. I couldn't get in past the door. After all day I made it to the back of the unit and worked my way back but made little to no improvement out there. I found very little to toss. We ended up with quite a lot of our parent's belongings the last 4 years and don't know what to do with them. So everything I pulled out today had to go right back in. What a wasted day...
And I still didn't find my chainsaw.

The only thing besides the folks I worked with that I miss, is the access to all the machining equipment. I am building my version of a 3 point hitch "log handler". I have to still weld my hitch point plates on there, but I need to drill some mighty large pin holes. That milling machine would make quick work of it. So I threw them in the truck and took them to my old co-worker who is now the maint super, and he is getting it done. Here is a pic of a factory deal. I sorta added a 30 degree boom to it. Hitch points should be similar. And my framework I have started.

No Hummingbird sightings yet, but most of the other birds are back, including the blue birds. The year round birds were all getting their breeding plumage at the end of March and then mother nature threw a cruel "joke" on them April 1st with a blizzard. Freezing rain with high winds overnight, turning to 10" of wet, heavy snow. This whole area is still cleaning up the thousands of downed branches and trees from that "gift". We were without power for 20 hours. Overnight lows are still below freezing.
Might be why the Hummers and Oriels are a little slow returning to the frozen north.
