Re: Historical/ This I know
[QUOTE=aerotruk63;3389738]Would it be possible to start a Historical/ This I know section.
Example: Historical: The 60-66 Chevrolet/GMC were designed by John Delorean based on Airplane Design. Thus the nickname Aerotrucks. Hey, Aerotruck. Not to change the subject but you touched on a topic I've been interested in. That is, who designed the 60-66 trucks? Where did you discover that John Delorean headed the design team? I would love to learn more about this. It would be so cool to see the design process and rejected drawings. I've always wondered why nobody has ever written a "behind the scenes" book about designing these trucks. They made so many of them and they were so popular for so long you'd think there would be a market for such a book. For some strange reason, though, in-depth books on trucks (esp. pickups) are few and far between. |
Re: Historical/This I know/60-66 Model Changes
I was going on memory from something-somewhere I had read. Wish I had some literature to prove who designed the series.

60-66 Differences Consolidated
60-66 Differences Consolidated.
. There are many threads discussing several differences between 60-66's and then a few threads regarding differences between 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton. . I'm going to use this thread to consolidate many of those differences and links to those threads that discuss those. . Here's a really good thread with history and pics: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=351107 . Please post the differences you know and I'll try and keep this post updated. |

if you're willing to help. The only things I know are the hoods, grills, and dash. But what years are what, I do not know. . . Edit: I found this: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ht=Differences. . . And this: http://6066gmcguy.com/Hood.html |
Re: 60-66 Differences Consolidated
60 and 61 hoods have different turn signal pods. 61 hood has the Apache emblems on the rear corners.
62-66 hoods are the same except for the 62 hood having clear turn signal lenses. 63-66 turn signal lenses are the yellow/amber. On the cabs, the 60-62 have different front mount points than the 63 cab because of the different frame. |

Re: 60-66 Differences Consolidated
You can tell 64-66 apart immediately by the fender emblems.
You can tell 66 hubcaps from 64/5 by the ring around the emblem. |

For the Chevy grilles:
60, 61, 62, and 63 are all different. 64-66 are the same |
