I wish everyone a happy new year.
I painted the inner Wheel Tube with epoxy, I had to plug a few more holes. I completely forgot. I was able to take advantage of the warm temperatures and filled the panel and started sanding it, it feels good. |
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
I am amazed and impressed with your results, well done.
And a great New Years wish for you and your family. |
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Your body work on the bedside is great.

I assembled the bed and painted the inside.
Another step further. |
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Step by step you are moving ahead Harald.
Some day I hope to get to that point too. Progress |

I managed to paint the loading bed, it was quite cramped in my paint booth,
just a little touch-up and then it's ready to be mounted on the truck. Tailgate still has to be done, build the loading bed. |

Put the bed back on the truck.
It looks like a real C10. |

Installed the loading bed today, it looks good.
A problem arises, the holes on one row on the carrier do not match, all the others fit. I ordered the wrong strips for a Long Stepside, now I don't know if it's different there, I ordered the short strips for a Long Fleetside from MarK, the holes don't fit there at all, but they have a good reputation. I'm just a little clueless. In the end I'll probably weld them shut and re-drill them. Unfortunately, I have already passed on my old stripes, so I cannot compare them. |
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
That's a bummer about the bed strip holes not lining up. It doesn't help your situation but your truck is coming along nicely and looking good!
|
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
When I put my bed together to mark all of the holes, it took me several days to get everything squared away. Is it way off or just slightly? This sort of thing can get very frustrating. By the way, your truck looks great.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Thanks for the kind words.
On the 4th picture you can see the misalignment, the bolt also fits into the wheel tube and the holes fit on both sides. The Frame bolts are also in their positions. |
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Morning Harald,
Looks like I have a lot of frustration (potentially) ahead when I get to fitting ,y strips, also from MarK but I plan on making my own bed strips. Your work, as always, looks exemplary. Well done, despite the setback. |

I don't think you'll have any problems with your stripes, because the Long Step Stripes on my lasts aren't exactly the same as Long Fleetside.
The short strips from mark-K are exact for 60-62 long Fleetside, it even says on the back. Well, I welded the holes shut today and already pre-drilled the new holes. |
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
I'm a little confused about what is wrong. You mentioned long stepside wood which completely different than the fleetside. Did you contact Mar-K about your problem? My bedwood and strips are from Mar-K and worked out perfectly once I got it aligned correctly.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Yes, it's confusing. No wood, just the stripes, I build wood myself.
As written, I had ordered the wrong stripes from Chevy Classic Truck Parts and reordered the small side strips from Mark-k. That's the only place I even got the Stripes to have a complete set. Now I had to make the best of it, at least I expected the sidebars to fit, now they do. |

Since it has gotten quite warm at the moment, I used this, to paint the tailgate, so the painting work is done for now.
The stripes are now also adjusted, note to me: Long Stepside, do not fit on a Fleetside truck.:D Now I can take care of the bed wood. |
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Morning Harald,
Tailgate looks good. Do you own a spare long bed tailgate? Two options I guess. Sell it on, or make a tailgate bench for your garden. |
Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
That's a good idea, unfortunately I only have this one.
Maybe I'll get one. |

The Wood is already waiting for installation.
Taillight rewired and straight away laid a branch for a trailer option, you never know what you might need it for. Adjusted exhaust tailpipes |
