Love this thread.

Does seem that the 60,61 shape is not that well represented globally.

Maybe they will get discovered one day.

Keep posting those pics as mentioned before.

I will post up some pics of a truck I do not own, but am busy investigating.

I posted these in the "what did you drag home" thread, but thought they should be here too. I looked at every page and didn't see another 60 with all of the trim... Anyone got a rust-free ugly hood they don't need? LOL

Hello Gentleman. I've just joined this forum and love it. I've been building my '60 Apache short bed fleetside for several years now. It has a 383/700r4 with power steering, power disc brakes, dropped spindles with torsion bars, 3.07 12-bolt rear, 4 inch dropped coils in the rear and a sway bar. It's great to see all these awesome wrap around windshield trucks in one place. I have a ton of questions for you guys but for now, here's mine.....

Hey, i'm new here and I have a question about your truck. Did the 295 45 18 fit the rear without any issues? I'm considering the same size for my '60 shortbed fleetside. I really like your pickup..

Welcome fellow Mississippian! I have friends & family in your neck of the woods. My sister, bro-in-law, & kids live in New Hope. I have several old car club friends in Starkville (Southern Cruisers). My wife and I both graduated from MS State, so we know the Columbus area. I'm originally from Corinth, MS, while my wife is from Ellisville. Nice looking truck you have there with some cool upgrades. How does the 700R4 perform with the 3.07 gears? I've seen some debates on the forum as to how well that combo works. I have a '66 that currently has a Powerglide. We swapped in a 5-lug rear with 3.08's to help with RPM's & mileage. However, I'm looking to swap in a 700R4 in the near future.

Real Nice to meet you! My wife and I both went to Mississippi State as well and I'm very familiar with the good folks in the Southern Cruisers. The 3.07 and 700r4 are real good on the highway and pretty decent from a dead standstill but i'm working on a 3.42 posi set-up in the near future. Every year my brothers and I make the drive to Cruisin' the Coast (5 hour drive) and Super Chevy in Memphis (3 hour drive) so the power steering and power disc brakes were necessary in my opinion. I cruise at 75 mph and turn about 2300 RPM. I've also been working on a rear disc set up and rear air ride which should be done a little later this spring (i hope). I'll be sure to check out your build soon!

Here's my 62 wrap around windshield, with my favorite picture of my 3 year old daughter helping me wash the rims.

Currently doing a quick tear apart, detail, and engine swap. Wish I could spend more time (and money) on it.

Awesome, small world huh? I appreciate the response. I was thinking about 3.42 or 3.73 gears if I have any issues with the 3.08's. I'm building mine to be a cruiser, so that info sounds good! I've been to Cruisin' the Coast a few times & actually sold a couple past rides there. I miss being able to go since we moved. And Super Chevy was a ritual growing up as well, making many trips over with my dad. Sounds like you have some cool plans for the '60 in the near future. I can't wait to test out the new power steering & power disc brakes on mine!

Nice truck, & great to see the little one's getting involved! Hope I can be as lucky when I have kids. I like that shade of blue on the truck. And I think many of us would agree with wishing we could spend more time/money on our old trucks. :)

Thank you. Yeah, she's my little helper; it's hard to get her NOT to help on things. That day she cried so many times because I wouldn't let her wash certain parts of the truck or dry it. So, I let her do the rims, and that made her VERY happy!

Here is a pic after we were done.... she then went and told Mommy, "I rode in the truck with Daddy today!" My wife flipped (because I don't have any seat belts installed), until I explained that she only rode inside for 10 feet, while I moved it back into the garage. Lol. Yes, I am very blessed.

We also have a set of 11 year old twin boys, who helped me take off the hood and the front clip. They are NOT like their sister, and it was quite stressful directing them what to do. But, we did it, and I told them how proud I was of them. I got all my mechanical skill and passion for cars from my Dad (whom I was only around as a very young boy), and I want to pass it on to them.

We have another boy on the way, and I am going to be selling the truck as soon as I get it done, in order to pay for all the medical bills for the new baby. My insurance isn't what it used to be, so our portion is ridiculous.

That's great. Funny how she's more interested, but it's great you got the boys involved as well. I'm sure they'll remember the time spent, & even if not now, they'll eventually come to appreciate it. Congrats on the new little one! Sucks that you have to let the truck go, but I totally understand. I'm sure another will come along when the time is right. Then maybe you'll have a full pit crew to help.
