Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Dan had to check his books and engines.........JV= 6V53, JI=6-71, JH= 8V71, JN= super 250, JM= gas , JC= NTC 290...............but only if tandem.
2 axle chassis are Hs............like HV, HI, HH, HN, HM, and HC. My data book was 1974 so didn't have the 3208 listed back then . Learned something new today as I always referred the 90" BBC trucks as Js. Looked at the listing again.............and most likely would be a JC as the JN [Super 250] would be rare by '74 . OK guys...........What makes the 250 Super ? |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
I wish I knew my Cummins Engines, but I probably shouldn't even guess, lol.
|
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Bill-----I always took pride in knowing almost as much about the competition as about the DDA engines.............and Allison transmissions , when I was a salesman .
The Super 250 was a long stroke 250, had a 6.5" stroke instead of 6" , and gave it something like 927 cubes instead of 855 . I still maintain a competative engine library . |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
I only drove one Cummins one time. It was a late 60's White 9000 with a 220 and 10-Speed Road Ranger. No Power Steering, lol. Surprisingly, I really liked it. Didn't steer that bad.

Not a Chevy but a real nice Peterbuilt. Belongs to a good friend of mine.

Great pictures.
A good many that I've never seen before. Thanks for posting them. |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
You bet, the credit goes to Dick Copello for putting those two pages together. Really liked all those 9500's and Generals, there were lots of other interesting rigs as well. I missed out on a 1970 GMC 9500 with a 6-71 at the city auction a few years ago. I was told it sold for under $1000 running but the steering box was broken. A local gravel trucking company bought it and it's been sitting in their yard ever since.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
That was a good price. The one that went for auction around here was the opposite. I was hoping on a low auction price and I personally drew the line at $1900. It finished off at $8900 !!

Dick Coppello is on here as PAcarhauler

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Are we Sure that the H is the tandem and the J is is the single? I have one of each and my tandem SPID pretty clearly spells it out as a model JV

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
The "c" 90 on the previous page I see has the "low" lights (raised cab) does not not make it most likely a "H" or one of the Cummins powered models? Never mind I see JY Dan all ready covered that.....I should just quit responding from my phone.....I miss to much reading this way

That truck is just the least little bit over-loaded.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
"If it fits it ships". I don't think DOT sees it that way, tho'

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Actually if that truck ain't running on very flat roads, it's going over. I'd be turning a corner at no more than 2 MPH, lol.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
That's what I was thinking. Anything that would rock that thing I'd think would lay it on it's side. pretty sketchy for off road

I really like what I see here. I see an old Chevy truck in a foreign country someone is taking pride in fixing up and using the heck out of

Great thread and some awesome looking trucks.
I stumbled onto this old hot rod this past Fall. It needs some work, but I think we can bring it back to life with a little elbow. I'd really like to put a 6V53T in it... love those Detroit's. Attachment 1598155. |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Looks like a '68 or '69.
Is it a 5500 or a 6500? Tell us more about what Engine and Trans you have in there now. |

You're right on the money... 1969 C5500 cable/wire truck. The truck has 292 Chevy with 60K miles on it and 4 speed trans. Not sure which transmission it is yet... maybe a New Process. It also has a PTO driven winch (15K lb.) behind the cab and headache cage with an open PTO driveshaft and the very end of the truck to drive something? Maybe a margarita mixer? :).
It's tough finding much info and parts on this truck but I knew that before I bought it. I am gluten for punishment and a challenge and I really like these old trucks Thanks for asking. |

Thanks RKN,
I read your thread on you extended bed rig... that was awesome but after reading all the work you did, I was tired needed a nap... that's a lot of work. The truck looks great. Do have any current pics or updates? |

I like it too! I have no idea what engine, but with no big block hood vents I'm going to guess Toroflow?

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Sweet!! I almost bought one this past Fall out of an estate sale. It was a 9500 with a 6-71 and I think the GVW was like 33K. I really liked it except for those scary two piece wheels.
|
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Nice looking truck.
Nothing wrong with Spoke Wheels. We just had a conversation about them recently, lol. |

I like the spoke but I've always heard their a little scary to change.
I found a pic of the DT I mentioned earlier. I wish I would have bought it... oh well. I am not sure who, but it looks like someone bedazzled the frontend... it made us laugh either way. |
