Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
I may, or may not be figuring this photo posting thing out.
but just in case, what you are about to see may be disturbing by some, and was a very rare opportunity to have been caught on film, but what you are about to see are factory installed rocker panels that have never been subjected to RUST! I hope that you can all endure this image. I know, it is quite breathtaking! http://imageshack.us/a/img13/9615/0loy.jpg Sorry I got this far, but don't know how to make the images smaller! Here are some additional pics showing my progress!...I think that I am an idiot!!!...But big pics are better than no pics! I'll get this sorted out! http://imageshack.us/a/img5/1651/v1w6.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img12/108/jl15.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img845/8858/9k0f.jpg |

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
Just another small update, but a bit of an important milestone for me.
I pretty-much have every non-exposed surface on the front half of the truck painted! Now we get to start painting the exterior surfaces! I have hung the doors on the cab & have them all aligned, finish sanded masked-off & washed down with wax & grease remover so that we can blow the roof silver tomorrow...hopefully! Here is a few pics of some of the last items that we shot! I didn't use any clear on the inside of the hood because it has some imperfections that I didn't want magnified, so we just used basecoat with hardener. I ordered hood insulation from Soffseal to add to the inside anyway. http://imageshack.us/a/img832/4856/xyt8.jpg The insides of the fenders turned out really nice. Too bad they will never be seen by most! http://imageshack.us/a/img43/7591/4hd5.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img94/7514/8oyk.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img818/9831/37di.jpg |
Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
Silver and blue very nice combo to go with..

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
Here are a few sneak-peeks of the cab, all prepped for painting the top-half.
I used foam tape to mask-off the door jambs. That stuff works awesome! The cab feels sooooooo smooth! http://imageshack.us/a/img560/9051/ydmb.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img29/5850/jyqv.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img827/622/2ywv.jpg |

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
Looking Good man! I used that foam tape for years. 3m makes a tape called transitional tape. You have to try it if you like the foam you will love this stuff makes nice and clean edges. Keep up the hard work...it's paying off!:metal:

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
Finally!!!
Between weather conditions, and life getting in the way, we sprayed the roof! And it looks AMAZING! I am so excited! I know, I know. Now I have a whole bunch more work to prep the outside of the front-half of the truck. But seeing a shiny surface on the exterior makes me want to work twice as hard to get to the finish! http://imageshack.us/a/img401/3331/5l76.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img42/1892/di35.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img854/9599/f9a4.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img41/7896/lw84.jpg And the clear laid-out pretty flat!....Not much to wheel here! Man that is just stinkin' Sweet.
Makes me so disgusted with myself that I can't even get near the Awesomeness of the Skillz Level you have. That came out soooooooo nice. |
Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
That is very nice
That makes all the work worth it when you can see some shininess that's smooth as glass. |
Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
Patiently waiting for more Modge-Gyver painting magic. Looking really nice.. What brand of paint and clear are you using..and when you masked the foam tape in the door jambs is it laying flat or does it follow the contour.

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
beautiful job on the paintwork. i dig the foam tape too and it comes is several diameters for different gaps, really gives a soft edge.
driving this fall, maybe? its possible. |
Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
What is the purpose of the foam tape?

I watch your build religiously, and can honestly say that you will probably out-do me on paint-work! I don't paint, and it took me forever for me to prep this! But hey, like I always say: Paint is 90% prep work, and almost anybody can blow it on!...JK!!! Quote:
I have spent well over a YEAR prepping this thing for paint!!! Look at all of the stuff that you have done in that same year!!! I have done absolutely everything leading up to paint, except actually holding onto the paint gun and spraying the paint. I was kinda guestimating... you know, with calculus & stuff, and determined that I have well over 600 hours into getting the body to this stage! I don't claim to be fast at this, but I am sure that if you put as much effort into this, as you do for everything else that you have done, all will be awesome! Quote:

You know, a few of my buddies refer to me as Modge-Gyver, that's funny!!! All Dupont Chromabase on exterior surfaces! The foam tape is like a rope with adhesive on about a quarter of the diameter, it locks off the jamb from overspray, and doesn't leave a definitive tape line. Quote:

But I doubt that I will be driving this until next year! Quote:
