Yeah, that stuff wouldn't take off the factory primer on mine, ended up sanding

Wow you look busy, maybe you should start your own DIY network show. Keep up the good work.

Yep, I complain but I can't stand just sittin' in the house so it nice to have stuff to do. Hopefully I have time this weekend to finish stripping the bedsides and get them in epoxy primer.

Made some good progress today. Finished taking the bedsides down to metal and started stripping the doors. I found a small amount of filler in the doors but nothing at all major. Epoxy primed all that I got stripped bare. I got a few runs here and there with the cheap-O gun I bought for primer. It just won't adjust right. Of course the 2.0 tip doesn't help either, lol..... Too much flow.... The tip I saw on here to put plastic wrap over the stripper worked great. The stuff cut way better than last week. I still used a stripping wheel on a drill to finish it up. Anyway, heres some pics.

I'm gettin' close to shooting the epoxy on the doors and tailgate. All I have left is clean up and stripping the rest of the doors.

As long as it doesn't rain I should have my tailgate, doors, hinges, etc. all in primer in the morning. I took an old swing, ran a piece of pipe across the top and hung chain off of it. It should be perfect to hang everything off of and shoot at one time. I also have a set of 3rd row seats coming from Frizzle Fry. They match my fronts perfect. I was going to get a set of neoprene seat covers but I might just run them stock for awhile.....

Thanks for the compliments and the haha's.... I'm going to leave it sit for a couple weeks and concentrate on the S10. I'll be sanding, priming, sanding, painting and clearing it. I want to get some more practice shooting before I get to the blazer. He's wanting to go with a dark metallic blue so this should tell me if I'm ready to shoot mine, lol.....:5150:

Here some stuff I've aquired. Got the hook up on both. Seats from Frizzle Fry and a push bar from jamie72. I was color blind or something but I'd of swore that those seats were dark grey... They be tan, lol... My fronts are grey. I was going to use neoprene seat covers to cover them, but looking at them some more the seat belts and buckles are tan too... Any suggestions? Paint? Dye? I thought about using that fabric paint on both sets and painting them black. The push bar is very heavy made. I bet its 50lbs. or more.
Thanks to both of you for the sweet deals.

I'm with you J. I'm looking for a light gray leather set for the front of mine. All of the pictures look tan.

Wish I had known you wanted grey. I would have said something :o They'll be sweet recovered though.

No worries at all. For the deal you gave me I have no problem at all making them work. Its gonna be cool to have the ability to flip them up out of the way to make more room in the bed area.

How 'bout some specs on the push bar?

Yukon Jack 08-19-2008 10:38 AM

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

That's the same exact push bar that is on my 70 K5! Pretty stout piece for sure.

While it is off you ought to make a template of the sides along with measurements and people have asked for that in the past. I made a great template and sent it to a boardmember about a year ago who was going to make a CAD drawing of it, but doesn't look like that ever happened.

Big J 08-19-2008 01:14 PM

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

I'll post some specs up and I wouldn't mind mailing out some templates. After I get it ready I'll see how much usps is If anyone wants them. They can paypal me the cost of shipping/paper/time, 1,000,000.00 lol, and I'll send'em out. It looks to be home made by looking at the cut holes instead of being drilled. I need to cut off the tow hooks someone welded on then I could make a template.

I got started on my seat mounts. Here are the fronts. I decided to tie it in all the way across with the 1/2" rod. It'll have a piece of 1/4" plate running side to side underneath to bolt through. Should be strong enough, any opinions? I still have some grinding to do then I'll prime and paint. Still gotta come up with a plan for the rears. They are a different shape. Kinda square with rounded corners.

Hey J,

It may not be worth it but you can find the original brackets in the Tahoes/Burbs at the junkyard. I paid $50 for mine. Just going to weld some support down before I go to drilling :)

I called 6 BIG local yards and they all said no dice. So instead of waistin' time and fuel I dug through the scrap pile out back and commenced to drillin'/cuttin. I did see the factory mounts on ebay..... for 140.00.... They did come with bolts though:lol::5150:

I made an entire subfloor out of 2" square tubing and then ran bar stock across, it worked out pretty well and gave me some unoticable storage. The only problem I had was finding suitabe, affordable floor stock. I will post pictures later this weekend.

The front mount is mostly done. The seats mount up to it nicely. I found a piece of square stock in the corner of the garage so I called dibs on it. I'll have to shave it down in 4 places but no biggie, can't beat free. Called dibs on some lifting anchors off an old military mobile fuel tank. They will make killer tie down points in the back of the Blazer.

All I have to do now is decide on what finish for the mounts then they are done. I used a bench grinder and turned down the square stock. The seats lock down nice and tight.
