THIS WEEKEND:

(no pics, camera batteries failed)

I replaced the column shift column with a 'four speed' column...

And with the use of Captainfab's adapter plate and excellent instructions, it now has power steering.

After I installed those things, I took it to Lisa's brother's shop to get the turn signals re-wired...he ended up fixing up all the underdash wiring. Looks factory again... :metal:

Hopefully I'll get pics of all this stuff soon...

Looks good. How long is the shifter? It looks like a perfect size.

It's a 16" floor mount.

Finished wiring the signals yesterday. I had to clean up and re-shape the contacts in the turn signal switch. :ito:

Yes it does. It's also setup with a neutral safety switch so you can set it up to start only in park or neutral... that's not hooked up though. I may try to set that thing up to work the reverse lights. :)

:smoke: Great looking installation, Hoser. Mine's the Gennie and I love it, despite not getting my floormat, or installing my shifter boot and lock-out switch yet.

Looking good -I went back and started again from page1 - You and Lisa have come a long way with the truck!!

What are you using for a heater fan switch?
I see gauges cut in on the panel on the left side of the radio where the fan switch originally went......

I haven't posted on here in a while. Haven't done anything major since the 700r4 project.

As for the heater switch, it has been relocated to the where the lighter goes. The P.O. installed those aftermarket gauges on that panel and relocated the switch. Looks good... we are leaving it that way.

Finally did some more work to the '65 this weekend. First I replaced the heater core that blew up on us a couple months ago. Then did the fan speed regulator... so the heater is in good working order... Then I got under the truck and did some exhaust work. I had a set of pipes that I took from a parts truck... I got the truck up on jack stands and pieced it back together. I used some tips that I used to have on the '62. Looks real nice! Quiet in the cab, nice muffler music out back... she is very pleased...:metal::chevy:

I'm not sure of the brand... they are small 'turbo' looking mufflers that say Made in the USA. They have a very nice tone, at idle the sound is close to a chambered muffler...

You got that right Jose. Just in the knick of time. We are wanting to paint the truck this spring. Is you or your bro interested in a side job??

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

We've been cruising the '65 a little more lately that the weather's been "decent" (above freezing :) ) There's been a little issue with the radiator. It keeps 'burping' now and then...spitting coolant out. I put in a makeshift overflow bottle to keep it from making a mess, but it keeps overflowing that bottle. I top off the coolant and it does it again. It has a new rad. cap, but could in be bad?? Could it still have air bubbles in the system?
Suggestions??

Other than that, the truck is running great! Here in the next couple of weeks it will be going into surgery...TBI conversion... :)

Captainfab 02-15-2011 02:35 AM

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Hopefully it isn't this, but I would find a shop that can test your coolant for exhaust gases.

jchav62 02-15-2011 10:43 AM

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

I was doing some thinking. We haven't ran the truck much since I drained the system to replace the heater core. I think it still had some air in the system. Since the big 'burp' it had yesterday, It's been clean sailing. The water level has been cherry, no more mess. I hope that was it... JC

Thanks Dino! We are hoping to take it in for paint this spring... funds permitting.

Next on the list (for the near future)

TBI conversion
"RE" rebuild the 700r4 (the one in the truck was kind of "frankensteined")

:metal:

jchav62 05-23-2011 05:45 PM

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Well, it's been awhile since I've posted on this thread. The truck is at the transmission shop (Lisa's brother's shop) and it's getting another 'new' 700r4. I went over there this past Friday, got it up on the lift and pulled the frankenstein trans. Her brother Mario has another 'virgen' 700r4 that he's going to open up and install new clutches and seals for us. I believe we'll have better luck with that one.

After that, it's going to Carlos' (Mario's twin brother) house and we are going to TBI the truck. I finally got all the parts needed to complete that portion of the project.

Then it's off to the painter. We are next on his... We can't wait!! :chevy:

Getting a lot done to the truck. What color did you decide on?
I drove my truck last night and today and noticed it spitting some coolant through the overflow line (also smelled it last night). Gonna have to check it out.

The '65 was spitting coolant for a bit too until the system complete 'burped' itself. It took about 2 weeks after I put in the new heater core before it stopped spitting out. It's fine now. I think your truck just needs more use Jose.

As for the colors, Lisa picked a 'pearl torquoise' color that comes on the new Malibus and HHRs. I'm not sure of the name for sure. Then were going with a pearl white top and side trim.

So we finally got the 700r4 fine tuned. Shifts great and does absolutely awesome on the highway. Runs about 2300 rpm's at highway speed. We ended up taking the '65 to the Rumbler's show in Albuquerque last weekend. She got a little hot in traffic entering the show so the next day we installed a bigger radiator (that her brother happened to have...lucky!!) and the fan shroud. Seems to stay cool now but the real test will be in traffic...

Here's a shot at the Rumblers show... :ito::chevy:

Not sure of the name of that color. We bought the truck disassembled and it was already that color. It will be changing soon as soon as our painter can fit us in his schedule.
