Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Budget = telling your money what to do, instead of wondering where it went. Try it, you might find you have more than you think! :D
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Im working on that.. slowly but surely.. spent two months unwanted vacation this summer.. just trying to catch back up no. got two jobs hehe.. keepin my head up though :metal:
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
ya, without our monthly budget our money would be who knows where... mine always comes the last of the month usually. what ever is left over from the mortgage and cars goes right to the build/savings. granted sometimes things come up and we have to skip a month but it works out good for the most part.
were planning our vaca for the end of sept. so theres nothing happening for the the build or savings next month:( COLORFUL COLORADO HERE WE COME!!! (as long as school doesnt get in the way) |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Hmmm, we are planning a Colorado get-together/BBQ on Sept 27th, maybe you will be here for that? That would be awesome! Take a look at the "August Get Together" thread in the Colorado section. Yeah, it started out to be August, but got bumped to September.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
;) i'm grinning ear to ear!! i just talked it over w/ Amy and she just has to check her class syllabus for that week but it is looking good!!:bo2::burnout::D
i'll put in my request off today for week of sept. 27th. if it works out we'll get friday saturday before off and we can take our time getting there. if not i'll drive straight through sat. night after work!!!! woooo whoooo! oh yea, i'll check out the thread for time and what to bring. bummer i wont be in the truck... |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Harness and PCM are here! WOOHOO!!! Now, I'm going to note every connection that they left in the harness so when I go to put a 5.3L in Goldie I can do this myself and save a few $$$.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
yep! and post all that wonderous info that you are so famous for glock!
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Oh, you can count on that!!
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Yeah that whole budget thing is why I haven't done anything to the truck. Started off good, then got the bill for the engine. Bye bye money saved for truck. Now it's slowly building back up.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
^^^ amen!!!
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
we need pics of the harness!
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I need to find my camera first! :haha:
No seriously, I have no idea where it's at...... So this will have to do for now: 2006 Silverado harness, starting at PCM connectors and moving out from the PCM - BARE WIRES: White - To tach, 4cyl signal Green/White - To fuel pump relay control, 12v + Green/White - AC cycling switch White - To brake light switch, cruise Green/White - AC clutch enable relay control Purple - To brake switch, for TCC Green/White - VSS, to speedo Green - To OBD II connector, in vehicle Brown/White - To SES light 3 Red wires - Each to a 12v key-on fused power source 1 Orange wire - To a 12v battery fused power source 1 Purple wire - To starter solenoid (tie trucks starter wire to this one, or leave it alone and use trucks wire to the starter) CONNECTORS: • Electric fans (high and low, I will have to supply the ground) • TAC module • Wires for cruise: Dark Blue, Gray/Black, Gray • DS coil packs • DS injectors • Alternator • Coolant temp sensor (front of left head, for PCM) • Ground • AC compressor [probably won't need/use] • AC pressure switch (on AC line) [probably won't need/use] • Starter solenoid (see “1 Purple wire” above) • Crank sensor • Oil level switch (in oil pan) MAIN HARNESS SPLITS IN TWO HERE: One: • MAP sensor • Passenger side O2 sensor, front • MAF • PS coil packs • Ground • PS Injectors • Throttle body Two: • Knock sensor harness on intake manifold • Oil PSI switch (behind intake manifold, for PCM) • Cam sensor • Ground • Driver side O2 sensor, front • Transmission, drivers side • Transmission, VSS, tailhousing • Transmission, passenger side |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
So Dennis.... if you are going to crash our Colorado Get Together, I suppose that means Fred needs to be on Gen III power by September 27th?????
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
:metal: or at least ready for the 1st fire up by then! that would be a sweet welcoming!

Hmmm, I thought I had posted a before pic of the harness. I'll have to look on my computer at work tomorrow. But here is one of the reworked harness. And A pic of the problem with the rear end. grrrr.....
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
^^^ Wow...they screwed that one up real good ;)
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
new/reworked harness looks great Bob. now which rearend is that?
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
It's the one out of the burb. For some reason, the tape measure I used to measure Fred's rearend has an error on it somewhere, because Fred's rear is wider than I thought. Damn cheap tape measures!
The are actually the same width, so I will just put the ring and pinion out of the burb rear end into Fred's. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
:metal: cool, so you'll end up w/ the final gearing you wanted... 3.42's!;)
looks like your hitting it pretty hard trying to make that deadline:lol: i hate it when the numbers arent in the right order on those cheapo tapes! |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
It was at least an inch and a half shorter than all the others!
Yup, 3.42 is what I wanted all along. With the 275/60's, it will put me a 2250rpm at 78mph. Perfect! |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
yea, I thought all the rearend widths were in the same size catagory for those years.. now the 88-98 are wider in the trucks, but the spring perches are in different locations. something to consider tho
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I ended up putting a '96 rearend in my truck. I had to cut off the perches and shock mounts and weld them back on (wish I had thought that through as I am now wanting to do a flip), but it is a 30 spline, with an Eaton Posi, and 3.42 gears so it accomplished all of my goals at the time.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Mid 90', eh? 5 lug.... do you remember how much difference, if any, in the width? U-joint the same?
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
if I am not mistaken it puts the rear width right in line with the front. the one I used on my 84 4wd evened them out
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
^^^ THAT'S what I wanted the burb rear end for! Which is why I was excited at first to think the burb rear end was wider. Then bummed to see my tape measure had lied.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
well.. goodluck on finding a 88-98 in that gear. I am having issues myself. they want an arm and two legs for a rear with the G80 5lug and 3.73! go figure .. the nerve..
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I'm finding a bunch with 3.42's, just not anywhere near me. I may have to take a trip to the yard this Saturday to see what's close by.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
yea. the most popular availiable in my area seem to be 3.08 single trac. :bsf: looks like I am gonna be stuck saving the funds and finding a GOOD shop to set up a new rear diff and ring and pinion. seems like all the street cars I have seen done my most shops end up with a whine after supposed set with a dial indicator. if I could do it, or at least had the tools, Id do it myself and save paying some jerkoff to set it up wrong lol
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
They were only about a 1/4" different per side. I can tell you that the 18x9.5 Boss 338 that I have for "Bob" fit beautifully with this rear. I actually replaced the u joint...twice...before I came to the realization that the stock one would have fit :(.
^^^ I did put the new Eaton in myself with new bearing and all, but I took about a dozen measurements with a dial indicator before I removed the stock carrier. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Have you tried car-part.com? I see several in Colorado.

I did look there Wynne. The ones with prices start at $250. The local yard sells complete rear ends for $100 without drums, $150 with, but it's u-pull. I have a small portable hot wrench that will make that job easy. :D
Scored on eBay this morning, which required that I sign up again for Paypal. :banghead: Guess I should change my signature?! I picked up a complete gauge cluster from a 90 Blazer for the electric speedo for $45. I sniped it in the last 20 seconds, and a guy put in his first bid in at the exact time as mine, but for $0.42 less than me! :haha: I'll probably swap the entire cluster instead of just the speedo, except I like the original fuel gauge better. It says E, 1/2, F instead of the empty black circle, half white half black circle, and white circle. And it has a trip odometer too! The lower left gauge spot is empty, so I will see if I can install my Autometer fuel pressure gauge there. That way won't have to mount it under the dash. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
THAT WAS YOU!!??
J/K! nice score Bob. i'm going to go w/ the autometer gauges that fit in the stock bezel. that should eliminate any problems with the font matching. i'll just need an electric speedo and the rest manual gauges like the stock ones?. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
:haha:
The stock gauges should be electric already (temp, oil psi). Even if not, I would go with all electric gauges. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
oh okay... the only thing that is manual in the stock dash is the speedo which is going to change to electric. duh!!!!!!
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I'm gonna build my own bezel out of aluminum and mount all my Autometer Phantom guages in it. I'm gonna relocate the radio, A/C controls and the left lower A/C vent at the same time too.
Not really relocate as much as move around. I have drawn it up a few different ways on Autocad at a friends machine shop, but that is the extent of it so far. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Sounds cool, but......
be careful when you say you are just going to "move around" a few things on your dash Ask me how I know that this can turn bad! :haha: |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Yeah, I have already seen pics of the other truck. I don't have the skills to do that much modification. I do, however, have a huge drawer full of hammers from very small to a genuine BFH ;)
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
All metal fabrication starts with a hammer!!! :D
And sometimes it ends with one too, depending on how the original hammer work turned out! :haha: |
