Nice...even if you use the "F" word here...

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Joe-
I knew someone was going to comment on the fact that I used the "F" word. And hey Joe you own one you got no room to talk bub. Granted my first car was a F@&D. :. (

T.J. - the seat looks about as good as it feels. I do miss that old bench seat feel a little. But I'm planning on getting the original seat re upholstered to factory original one day. But till then the modern seats are a welcome upgrade. Best part about having the truck be a driver. No points for un original haha.

So much truth to that. The truck did ride like a fat chick on a donkey.

Hey kimble. On your sm 420 that wine you heard on 4th gear do recall what it turned out being? I think my Trans is doing what yours was. Either that or its the T case. Not sure.

61K10 10-20-2015 12:46 PM

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Matt--probably just the transfer case, the bearings in the 420 are big and probably ok. (unless it was low on oil at one time). I might put some 90-140 gear lube in the tf/c and see if it quiets down some. maybe some fine sawdust will help? you have mufflers on the tk? if you are going to rebuild the 420 Jason with Big Ugly did have some bearings at a good price.

look for a dodge DV 205 and a nv4500

just got all mt parts for the d-44 gear change (Auburn posi) also got some ford Bronco brake backing plates (hope they work) to get rid of the goofy front chevy ones. chevy changed in 64 up to the newer type (star wheel adj) we will see.

I'll try and bump up the gear oil weight. The sawdust is a great idea. My grandpa had told me of that a while back. I'll have to try it. Yes the truck has one muffler. I did a 2 into 1 for the sake of my ears. Haha I'm looking to do a full system later this year. As my "winter project. Also I found a paint that matches my interior bar non. I just painted the ash tray and put it against the old paint. I think I'll be painting my interior soon.

Wow that paint matches perfect..

Randy-
There's a guy on the forum who found that krylon Carmel latte spray paint matches perfect for the darker fawn color. And for the lighter fawn champagne Nuevo? By krylon matches close. He wasn't joking.

Got my tach hooked up in the truck so I now know my engine speeds. I'm not a big fan of the electric blue in the truck. Maybe for my Toyota pickup! But not for the 65. Oh well its wired in and working. It's attached to the dash via double stick tape (love that S&!T) only until I find a better one.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Like the tach! haha I was excited when I installed mine. Was fun to wined it up to 4500 all the time. lol

Haha nice tj. Not sure if I'll wind mine up that far, ha. There's a lot of old iron moving on this 4x4

My truck has the light grey gunmetal or silver or whatever it's called...But someone has painted it all black and didn't even bother to sand it so it's coming off everywhere...I've got rust above the windshield so it will be a while before it see's any paint...:waah:

I have a small tach like that too got it off my son I think it has 5-6 different colors should be one to match LOL? are you running HEI ignition, I ran one on my 250 six in my ole Burb it does make a difference.. I see that 292 glowing in the background...

mattbert56 10-21-2015 08:58 PM

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Kimble- I'm more than happy with the tach now. The blue is a little odd for the old truck. But doesn't bug me to much. Thanks for that tach though.

Randy- yes I did switch to an he distributor, it made a world of a difference. Before it was all stock with a single barrel carb. The 600 edlbrock and headers needed more spark haha it got it for sure. Your truck can't be too far off from paint. It looks to good.

Laid some carpet in the old truck. Cleaned it up a little and probity helped with the noise. The gas tanks covered and looks pretty slick. Got the carpet from oreilys on sale for 8 bucks. Little spray adhesive and bam. I'm happy with it.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

well it's been a while since I've been on here. Life gets in the way. Funny how that happens. Crazy how much time passes with evrone else's builds. Just finished 3 hours or catching up on the builds I used to follow religiously hahaa. But haven't done much with the 65. I did just upgrade my front suspension to new 4 inch rancho lift springs. And welded on new Dom tubing shock mounts with new shocks reclaimed from a jeep. Rides like a 4x4 haha nothing much more to say than that. Old springs where TOAST. New ones are much more stuff but I kind of like it. It sits like a bang Baja trophy truck now, since I haven't lifted the back.m haha. But I think I want just a little more lift in the front. I'm going to make a set of shackles tomorrow from some stock off my steel rack see how I like it then. Past week I haven't been driving it due to what I figured was a carb issue. Still think it is. But before that I smoked my coil in my hei dizzy. Thank god for Napa they had one on the shelf bolted right up. Been running my cutouts alot. Usually when I go into town to the bar to shoot pool or whatever else. Driving beside a buddy few weeks ago he said when I opened up the 6 banger with open pipes between shifts a nice puff of blue flame would whip out at night time. Haha maybe the 600 edlbrock. Is a bit rich hahaha thought that was cool. Wish I had a picture of that. I'll upload pictures tomorrow sometime after I'm done with the pickup for the day. But feels good to be back.

Which truck? lol. Well the 66 has been on hold due to wet weather and cold temps....and slow work....So I won't be really starting on that again until Spring time when work picks up and then things should Really get going when the summer comes cause I'll be out of school and working full time which will be nice. lol Lotta painting and body work ahead. And on the 64 GMC I recently had dual exhaust put on for the big v6 and boy it sounds alot better. The 4 barrel and split exhaust made for a Nice power increase. Also just been getting alot of the little things working...like my heater...headlights ect....so yeah...still plugging along. Gotta keep my two gals happy! ;) Have you been able to see what's going on with your 292?

I know the feeling. I'm 25. I've met a few folks on here but not in person. I'm supposed to be heading over to Ta2Don's place sometime soon. I always enjoy the older crowd. Our generation sucks to be honest. Us younger classic guys really have to stick together. We'll eventually be a pretty small group compared to now.

Looking forward to following this.

Randy cox here's your front end photos. First time in months I've been able to upload photos. No idea why. There 4 inch lift rancho spring. I think. Hah it's lifted the truck about 3.5 in the front.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

The last photo my buddy enjoyed towing me home a little to much. Truck left me stranded for the 2nd time ever. :/ turns out it was an ignition issue inside of the distributor itself. But never the less. Needed a tow and of course there's a stuper duty in town. Grrr. Haven't had much time to mess with it latley. Have a new daily driver I've been focusing my efforts on. And 4 jobs have a way of taking up some time.

I like the lift it did raise it up some, looks good, and I'm also rethinking the V/8 deal verse the 292...it's hard to do anything without a garage..

Don't worry, if that's a 6.0 powerchoke you can give your buddy a bad time about those diesels blowing head gaskets even when the engine is off. haha

Well I made the move on mine from a 292 to a BBC 402, she sounds sweet too...you'll have to go and look through my build it's all there, now I'm just trying to get the exhaust worked out....I'll tell you it's been a wild road just because it seems to be a bolt in, easier said than done...
