Nice! The tint looks great man, and I love those stock mirror mounts.

Worth a try!

Nothing

Realized that after living in the south for 30 years that my Yankeeness is just about gone. Tried heating the shop for about an hour today and could last more than 15 mins before every bone was frozen.

I remember changing a tranny in PA outside in 20 degree weather (in the 70s) and it didn't bother me this much.

I wonder if I am getting old......Nah can't be that! :ito:

Agreed, I have the portable gas heater running now so I can do some work later. I left Canonsburg, PA for the Western NC, now Memphis area. What about you?

Left Pittsburgh area via the US Air Force. Ended up in south Mississippi after DC and 10 years in Northern Japan and Okinawa.

Not often, but the couple days a year where it is 20-40 degrees with 90% humidity seems to feel like you are being stabbed with needles.:waah:

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

After some great advice from Garage Journal members who clearly know a lot more than me, the ignition on my truck was identified and possibly from a post '66 Chevy.

So with the advice to use a paperclip in the hole and some anti-clockwise wriggling getting ramped up to a small screwdriver and some WD40 into the barrel, I got it undone.

Now the bezel can be addressed properly in its restoration.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps45154a2a.jpg

Inbetween, I did a load of little jobs between the house and garage, according to Nicola it has scored me another day and a half "free garage and truck time"
Also preparing some stuff to shove onto Ebay tomorrow to generate "truck funds from scrap" as mostly it would go to the charity shop we support.

I did also remove the scuttle cover so that I can do the prep better around the windscreen.

I did notice the little wheel like unit the wiper fits to, i different sized between driver and passenger side...... Is this correct? My passenger wiper does not sit securely and can be lifted off by hand.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps19742d59.jpg

Removed the fender emblems as well, I want to weld up the holes and if I refit them, it will be automotive double sided tape.
They look good for their age but need cleaning up.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0e8decda.jpg

Also started to look at the exhaust pipes as I want to fit the 3" QTP cutouts, as well as running 2.5" pipes and silencers to go with them out the rear, exiting in front of the rear wheels, with some sexy rectangular stainless or chrome tips like what you get on large luxury SUV's

Also want them to exit a lot closer to the body.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0699bc72.jpg

I fitted one of the Cutout pipes approximately where it needs to go, along with the valve to get an idea what needs to be brought together.

Made a clip to illustrate.

Looking forward to building this system at home with the help, guidance and mentorship, not to forget, labor of Paul Y.

Lastly, I may have mentioned before that my wife will not mix white and cream laundry, let alone red and black etc..... BUT, she will quite happily tell me to bring engine parts in and shove them into the dish washer.

Tonight she did a similar Samaritan like action..... telling me to bring the rear glass from the cab into the kitchen, putting a bedsheet on the table, and then once done, she helped me wrap it in a mortuary shroud blanket, then stored it on top of the spare room wardrobe. So I got all the sticker glue, and gunge off with some industrial acetone which I previously mixed with ATF to make penetrating oil.

Nice girl ehhh??

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps3cdfbf99.jpg

Tomorrow will be a weldathon with some grinding thrown in at Martin's place when we try to get control of his cab.

Looking forward to test driving his carport for insulation now the gates are fitted and closed up.

The issue with the wiper may be the spring in the wiper arm itself

Was chatting to Ta2Don around 23.15 on FaceTime about patching the speaker holes and also cutting out the crease down the passenger door and letting in fresh metal....... So went to the garage to photograph and measure the damage, when Don said "Lookey what I have here for you."

Being quick on the old camera finger, I took a screenshot pic.

Can you tell what it is yet??

Having trouble with his iPad, I am posting on behalf of MJH1965

Spent from 09.00 to 17.30 at mate Martin's today......

Left home at 08.00

On the way there, I stopped at a guys house who had replied to my Freecycle request for old Imperial sized spanners, he had actually recently thrown this lot into a shopping bag, ready for his next trip to the tip, then my email came by...... Perfect.

So I still need to see what he gave me, and also to clean them all up, but hey..... More of the right sized sockets and extensions cannot be a bad thing.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2bce7ccf.jpg

At Martin's, this was part of what greeted me.

A WORLD OF PAIN......

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps6a3d57f4.jpg

Much prepping, cutting and time spent, and little to show for it.

But we just kept at it.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psf88e644c.jpg

Using the most amazing tool I ever saw in action. Nibbler

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps738cf882.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps3744194c.jpg

In the end part of the firewall had to come off for repairs.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psc3584400.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psfc18bfef.jpg

Once I have shaped the replacement section, it will get welded over this now metal. Despite it being ugly, it should be sound structurally.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psc9acb272.jpg

More cutting, grinding, swearing (at Martin) later..... Some welding

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8c00166b.jpg

Made some templates, cut them out of a Ford Transit side panel with the nibbles Martin got from George and have more to do, but started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I also brought home some work to do here, to make a replacement panel for this piece.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8151fe7d.jpg

This is sooooo rotten.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps58a9a855.jpg

Ohhh, and one more side panel made today.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps96902892.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psb32393a5.jpg

Whoever said this was going to be quick or easy??

Thanks for checking in.

Picked this gem up today. Came out of either a '71 or '72 C20. 292 with p/s! Has a th350 bolted to it. Also got all of the mounts/perches, trans crossmember, and the steering column. I called because I wanted the steering shaft out of the column. haha. I'm going to try to fire it up soon. Don't know if I'm going to use it or flip it. I was originally going to do an lsx but this kinda fell in my lap.

Yes........ Seems we both had the same ideas after yesterday.

Came home tonight and thought I would give making the next panel for mate Martin's truck a go.

My piece of railway line that Woodsie got me years ago, again came in really handy. Can you say ANVIL ??

So using the sharp top curved edge, I started to bend the edge over.

Of course putting a curve at 90' to an existing flat surface, meant the plate started curling up like the "Fortune telling fish" you get in Christmas crackers.

So I took the hacksaw and cut slits in the edge of the curve, managing to complete the fold over.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psb7f93862.jpg

Then drilled in the mounting hole for the fender in the plate. Using the step drills Ta2Don sent me last year.

Amazing tools they are.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd0646a11.jpg

Next up I cut the lip back by about 8mm to get it to loser to the size needed on the truck.

Then I welded all the cuts back together........ Using my mobile to get one of the best ever action pics in my opinion.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps783eb47a.jpg

Then into the woodwork shed, to use my linisher to work it back to smooth and flat, flush.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps77da85f8.jpg

Finished product, ready to be welded back into the fire wall.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psa9a9afd0.jpg

Even if I say so, I am starting to enjoy this thing.

Excelent work Grizz, That panel you made came out perfect. In case you didnt want to weld the cuts up next time, It is possible to fold that edge over if you work the short edge over the anvil with a copper or brass hammer a little at a time to stretch the metal, make it a nice flare over the whole edge first, then take it to 90 degrees over the sharp edge with many blows close together, then you go over it with a smooth flat planishing hammer.

You did a fine job welding and grinding it though M8, Keep up the good work.

I got a disk front end yesterday for spare parts for my 64 C10 frame, got it home, disassembled, Cleaned, and ready for surgery... Pancake anyone?

Have a good week

64chevtruck,
Glad to see you obtained & kept the hard brake lines too. I kept all the hard lines off the 73 C10 I got mine from. With slight tweaking I was able to use everything. I did have to make a bracket to mount the proportioning valve (Combination Valve) to but everything worked out perfect. Don't forget to pick up that little tool to hold the proportioning valve centered when you bleed the brakes.
