Thanks for posting it. Strange that it is only a 5000 though. At first glance, I was sure it was a 6500. Mostly likely means that it is a 401 V-6, instead of a 478. Love the 5 X 3 Trans it has. My 6500 was just a 5 and 2-Speed Rear. The Differential Lock means both Rears are locked in and turning. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Here is a 53 GMC 2Ton that I spotted, it looks like it is in Iowa.

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Good picture to see the comparison between the two.
I always wondered why GM made the narrow starting in '63, but I recently saw a factory advertisement on it saying that drivers prefer the better clearance. I always drove the wides out of co-incidence and clearances were never a problem. Never even had a thought that it could be one of the reasons why, lol. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
I found the info on the narrow fenders and it is actually in a promotional film. The particular info on it starts at about time 3:08.

Not exactly a Craigslist find but online anyway
Me thinks somebody did all right taking this 61 Viking home for $775 bigiron.com/Lots/1961ChevroletViking60GrainTruck |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Nice score! Appears to have the 261 big six. Great running engine
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Other than a few dents, sheet metal looks great.
They sure did take a bunch of pictures: https://www.bigiron.com/Lots/1961Che...ng60GrainTruck |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Not CL, but an online auction in Kansas.
Looks to be a clean low mileage 1969 C-50 with a BBC 366. Greg https://www.purplewave.com/auction/180206/item/DC8379 |

1980 Gmc 9500 m - $12000 (Greenbush) (Link)
80 Gmc 9500 long hood. 8v71 Detroit. Ten speed. Truck is very nice for age. Came out of the south. Sat for ten years in a shed. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Interesting truck, although the year is way off.
Should be a '70 to '72. Would love to have it, but ouch on the price, lol. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
I doubted the year, thank you for confirming my suspicions. I went on a 9500 search after reading your recent thread about the one you drove with the 637. Do you have any pictures of the air cleaner arrangement on these? I'm sure it varies by engine but I just noticed that it doesn't have canisters hung outside the hood.
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
The 9500, Gas and Diesels, have the Air Cleaner under the hood. I believe it can be seen on the '72 9500 with the 8V-71 that I went to look at a couple of years ago. There should still be pictures of it here on the forums. I took the pictures and Bill (63 & 64 Bowties) posted them for me. I'll try to find them.
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
I found the pictures, but the ones I took don't show the Air Cleaner as good as the original listing does. Check out the pictures here: (click onto "More Media" for all the pictures. You will also see a short video of the truck here as well).
https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?f...98&acctid=2455 By the way, this truck is very similar to the truck that you posted today. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Not on craiglist, but ebay A '64 C 80 with heavy specs. big block, air brakes and big Eaton rear axle.https://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-Chevy-...1aasNd&vxp=mtr
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Interesting truck.
I agree with the write-up, the Hood looks like the worst part which can be easily changed. The GVW of 33,000 probably means 11 Fronts and 22 Rears. Nice heavy truck. Another Hood, a little body work and paint would make a big difference. |

62 40-50-60? Perfect for the folks who like to bring heavy stuff home. $2990!
https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/c...501223478.html 1962 Chevrolet dump truck with with cherry-picker. Later model Chevy V8 engine, very low model tires. Original family owned. Needs some TLC. $2,990 |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
A '62 LCF-60.
Would be a great restoration project. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
That thing has got a heavy front axle, wow! It's near me...if only I had someplace to park it...that chassis has rollback or ramp truck written on it to me.
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
I agree, it would make a nice Rollback.

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Trucks like these are begging for a 6.0 with the Allison 6-9 speed auto and use the splitter rear end.I hate seeing these trucks waist away.I hope in the next few years i can buy a few and stick the 6.0 with the auto and make them worth driving again with new power steering and hydro boost power brakes. These trucks can be Re engineered for long term use.Removing the gas take and putting a fuel sell on the side of the truck Update all the running gear.you have a truck that will get good gas mileage plus it will be a dream to drive
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
I wouldn't stick with a gas engine for something like that LCF. A project like it would need a new engine, so I'd try to find a Duramax V8 with an Allison.
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
Even when I'm not looking for parts for my truck, I keep finding more trucks. And why do I always find the flatbeds? https://atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/c...501537539.html The no title situation always scares me.
|
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
I've got a different idea for the LCF, lol.
A 4-53T Detroit with a 10-Speed Road Ranger. |
Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread
So your saying the 6.0 LS with the Allison is not a good combo for the C40--C80 1964--66 trucks. Can you explain why the 366 or 6.0 LS engine would not be a good combo. The Duramax V8 with an Allison.its a little pricey.I just want to know what are the take a way's from using the gas to using the Duramax.I've had a 1964 c60 a few years ago love the body stance and the way they looked and how they drove
Can you make the 2 speed slitter work with the Allison |
