Just judging from the pics, that C80 is a peach. Even with shipping would be a great start for a well-optioned truck. It no doubt will need lots of maintenance to get roadworthy again, but you would be hard pressed to find a better starting point. I sure hope it goes to a good indoor home.

Pretty cool truck.

Thanks for posting it.

Strange that it is only a 5000 though. At first glance, I was sure it was a 6500.

Mostly likely means that it is a 401 V-6, instead of a 478.

Love the 5 X 3 Trans it has. My 6500 was just a 5 and 2-Speed Rear.

The Differential Lock means both Rears are locked in and turning.

Most 63-66 C80's will have the narrow fenders, unless it has the 9K or 11k front axle. Can't tell from the photos if the green '65 C 80 has the wide or narrow fenders, but here is the comparison shot between the lighter and heavier front ends.

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread

Good picture to see the comparison between the two.

I always wondered why GM made the narrow starting in '63, but I recently saw a factory advertisement on it saying that drivers prefer the better clearance.

I always drove the wides out of co-incidence and clearances were never a problem.

Never even had a thought that it could be one of the reasons why, lol.

I found the info on the narrow fenders and it is actually in a promotional film. The particular info on it starts at about time 3:08.

80 Gmc 9500 long hood. 8v71 Detroit. Ten speed. Truck is very nice for age. Came out of the south. Sat for ten years in a shed.

Interesting truck, although the year is way off.

Should be a '70 to '72.

Would love to have it, but ouch on the price, lol.

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread

I doubted the year, thank you for confirming my suspicions. I went on a 9500 search after reading your recent thread about the one you drove with the 637. Do you have any pictures of the air cleaner arrangement on these? I'm sure it varies by engine but I just noticed that it doesn't have canisters hung outside the hood.

C10 - C90 Bill 01-24-2018 06:50 PM

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread

The 9500, Gas and Diesels, have the Air Cleaner under the hood. I believe it can be seen on the '72 9500 with the 8V-71 that I went to look at a couple of years ago. There should still be pictures of it here on the forums. I took the pictures and Bill (63 & 64 Bowties) posted them for me. I'll try to find them.

C10 - C90 Bill 01-24-2018 07:23 PM

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread

I found the pictures, but the ones I took don't show the Air Cleaner as good as the original listing does. Check out the pictures here: (click onto "More Media" for all the pictures. You will also see a short video of the truck here as well).

By the way, this truck is very similar to the truck that you posted today.

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread

Interesting truck.

I agree with the write-up, the Hood looks like the worst part which can be easily changed.

The GVW of 33,000 probably means 11 Fronts and 22 Rears.

Nice heavy truck.

Another Hood, a little body work and paint would make a big difference.

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread

Trucks like these are begging for a 6.0 with the Allison 6-9 speed auto and use the splitter rear end.I hate seeing these trucks waist away.I hope in the next few years i can buy a few and stick the 6.0 with the auto and make them worth driving again with new power steering and hydro boost power brakes. These trucks can be Re engineered for long term use.Removing the gas take and putting a fuel sell on the side of the truck Update all the running gear.you have a truck that will get good gas mileage plus it will be a dream to drive

NoStopN 02-21-2018 08:20 PM

Re: The Ulitmate Craigslist find thread

I wouldn't stick with a gas engine for something like that LCF. A project like it would need a new engine, so I'd try to find a Duramax V8 with an Allison.

Even when I'm not looking for parts for my truck, I keep finding more trucks. And why do I always find the flatbeds? https://atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/c...501537539.html The no title situation always scares me.

So your saying the 6.0 LS with the Allison is not a good combo for the C40--C80 1964--66 trucks. Can you explain why the 366 or 6.0 LS engine would not be a good combo. The Duramax V8 with an Allison.its a little pricey.I just want to know what are the take a way's from using the gas to using the Duramax.I've had a 1964 c60 a few years ago love the body stance and the way they looked and how they drove

Can you make the 2 speed slitter work with the Allison

I believe you are referring to a 2-Speed Rear and I've never driven one with an Auto Trans, but I have heard that yes, it is supposed to work.

It's just personal choice. A factory 6.0 LS (364 cubic in.) is only rated for 380 lb.-ft. of torque. That's more than most engines from the '60s, but even the earliest Duramax makes around 500 lb.-ft. Honestly, I can't speak as to what would fit with a split rear end, but you could attempt to contact Advanced Adapters. They claim they make the widest selection of adapters. Even if they would help on that kind of project, you (or whomever) would be the first ones to do it. You might have better luck getting an adapter made for mating the Duramax to a manual transmission that can handle the torque. You can take all of this talk into consultation, because I really know very little about trucks larger than a C30/GMC 3500.

I played mix-an-match with a 392, 4 Bbl IH and an Allison in a truck with an Eaton 2 speed axle.. Just back off a tiny bit and shift. It wokled fine.
