Same thing in Ohio. I suppose if we saw home-built cars causing accidents the inspections would be important, but it doesn't seem to happen very often. In this age of protecting us from everything, I'm sure it won't be long before required inspections will be in place, along with helmet requirements, safety bumpers and air bags for home-built cars.

I don't think those kinds of inspections will happen. WA doesn't have an annual vehicle inspection simply because there isn't tax money available to fund that type of program. even smog inspections have been done away with because of all the new cars that are emission compliant

I got my instrument cluster back in and hooked up, and got the a/c hose back in. I'm only working on it a little each day while we are on lock in.

Being furloughed this week I had lots planned... I acquired aftermarket hei small cap. Valve covers. And 2 carbs 1405 and 1406. Edelbrock says both are too big and will destroy mpg and throttle response.
I need blasted epoxy primer, color, and clear on manifold. Looks great.
I will curbside pick up gaskets today to install manifold. And buy adapter to put 2bbl on manifold..
Legging my homebrew in a couple dsys..

in an engine shop I worked at loooong time ago we used shot blasting on cast iron stuff. looked like new parts when we opened the cabinet. I have also used the "cast iron" look engine enamel and found it looks ok too. yours looks great.

My racer friends and I disagree with Edelbrock's prevailing wisdom about the MPG and performance of larger carbs. I have experienced that you can't over-carburate an engine. Larger carbs don't force air and fuel into a motor; the motor will draw only what it needs. With proper tuning, you'll get the same mileage with a 800 cfm carb as a 450 cfm carb; the big carb will just be operating at half capacity (unless of course the greater performance potential of the bigger carb tempts you to stick your foot in it more!).

I had a bone stock 305 SBC with a tunnel ram and dual 650 cfm four-barrels (1300 cfm total). Running them with direct linkage (not progressive) I got 25 mpg, partly because I had so much reserve cfm that I never had to get into the throttle. Exhaust always ran clean and spark plugs were always a nice medium brown color.

If it were me, I'd use the 1405 on that good-looking manifold!

A beautiful 78 degrees today. I took the panel truck out for a drive to blow the cobwebs off. It runs and drives so smooth, every time I drive it I'm more and more impressed.

I had to clearance the oil pan a little to clear the main studs, fits perfectly now. I did a little more smoothin on the water pump and started the hand sanding with 320 on the thermostat housing. All the puppies have new homes now so I got my shop help back.

I took the '56 out for a short cruise, came home and changed the oil, then got the new floor shifter all hooked up. Tomorrow I need to run to home depot and get a piece of 1 1/4 Oak to mount the shifter under the center console as it sits taller then the old one I was going to use.

As you may recall, I had some oil pressure sender issues with the Dolphin gauge in my panel truck, and Dolphin advised me to remove sealant from the threads so the sender could get a good ground. Nonetheless, just to reassure myself, today I verified my oil pressure with a manual tester: 28 lbs at idle, 50 lbs at 2500 rpm. So everything is just right.

I'm old school; I take the picture, save it to my computer and then pull up the picture from an existing file to this forum.

Finally finished polishing the lower thermostat housing. This little thing kicked my butt. I'm going to estimate it at 20 hours. It took twice as long as my bellhousing. It looks nicer than the photo. I don't know why polished parts photograph so poorly up close. I'm calling it a win.

All of those little details work your tail feathers or fingers off.

I did the move all my stuff in the outer yard and mow and then put it all back in different places thing today. For those who drive up US 97 between Goldendale and Toppenish you will probably notice that the furniture has been moved around and you can maybe see more sailboat butt sticking out.
There was a method to my madness as I drug the tear drop trailer frame that my frame for my 48 sits on out so I can get started on it as soon as I get the pop back though the carb thing fixed on the dualie.

My AN fittings came for my thermostat housing and I had to clearance part of the housing to get it in. And a little bit more polishing. I spent most of the day trying to make space for a new 12" X 36" lathe I ordered.

I final mounted my rear brake disk on the hub. They only have a torque setting of 155 inch/pounds with red loctite. I chased all the threads on the bolts and holes first to avoid the rundown screwing my torque settings up. The tape is so I don't lose my place and forget any. It is not going to be fun getting the safety wire on the bolts down around the e-brake drum. I guess I have never had any fun with safety wire.

I put the safety wire on my rear brake disks. I put the tape on so I didn't put one on backwards and have to do it over. Not that I have ever done that, as far as anyone knows. They took 20 to 30 minutes a piece. I think I had as much fun as you can have with safety wire.

Well, I lost 3rd gear in the 700R4, the outfit I bought it from won't stand behind the 2 year unlimited mileage warranty, XP Performance out of Spokane, WA.
So Monday after I get off work, I'll find out how much this is going to cost me... oh well what's another $1500 down the toilet...
I'm now stepping down of my soap box, my rant is done!

I tried to look them up on the Spokane BBB, but the local BBB doesn't know them. I'd file a BBB complaint. What are they telling you, that the problem was caused by a bad TV cable adjustment?

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

While installing my exhaust turndowns I noticed that my frame had been touching the rear shock absorbers when driving. The problem is my shocks are heavy-duty, over 2-1/2" diameter. So today I cut the dust covers off them, now giving them almost an inch of clearance.

They tried to blame it on that, except I had the receipt from the transmission shop that set it showing it was trailered to them to set it up. They even went as far as telling me the company had been sold and they weren't responsible because I didn't buy it from them.

That is the name on the invoice they sent me, after I read your response I did some research and found them operating under this name and the same address and phone number.

The Spokane BBB does know "Hot Rod Company". Here's a link:

Their reputation is slightly tarnished, but it looks like they know how to play the game by resolving the issues that get exposed. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

The BBB is a membership org. If you don't join their "club" and pay their dues they will imply that you are not a good business. I had to sue them once for that very reason. I won. Not saying the company you are dealing with is not a bad player. IMHO be careful what information you get from the BBB. They will also talk up their members. Thank you for your time.
