My truck was an obvious fleet purchase -- all manual, one-color, no A/C, Stepside, no frills. The one item that stuck out on the Build Sheet [before I lost it] was DeLuxe Ashtray. People were serious about smoking back then.

I've been thru a number of cigar lighters. They seem to burn out. I don't smoke, but the 12VDC outlet has come in handy a lot.

Ripped out the old trailer brake box and 20' of wire.
Tore out the old cloth heater/AC hoses, most of which went nowhere anyway.
I mangled the cardboard glove box liner, so debating whether to make one from sheet metal or just get another one.

Interesting notion about a sheet metal glove box.
If I was building one, I'd make it so the long part hinged in on itself and could open out once in place. The cardboard unit does this by bending the cardboard, but metal won't be as flexible.
Think of it more as a Ship-In-a-Bottle, than as Box A goes into Slot B.

Yeah. I pulled off an ancient Brake Controller box from my Jimmy the other day. Only used it once. I was back in there doing a root canal on my Parking Brake Cable.

Yeah, thinking origami, or in 3 pieces with the ends attaching after the folding piece is in place

Got the truck bed coating done last night. I found out it doesn’t remove dents, LOL. But I prolonged the life of this 51 yo truck box. Next I got to get some volunteers to lift box off frame. I want to wire wheel, prep and paint the bottom of the box and the frame.
This truck is from Oklahoma, so it’s very solid for its age. I’m in Iowa, trucks don’t survive this long if driven in our elements.

Drove the truck around the block today a couple times, got a few little bugs to work out. Biggest headscratcher is a odd misfire after driving. You can start it up and it will idle fine. Take off and drive, go a block or two and then come to stop and the truck is running ruff at idle. Shut truck off, let it sit for a couple minutes and then fire up and its running smooth again. So starting rest of the weekend will be going over the ignition and grounds.

Got the box off tonight. Started wiring wheeling the frame. Weather is supposed to be in the 50s tomorrow, so hopefully I can can a lot done on the bottom of the box. I’d like to get it wire wheeled, rust proofed and painted this weekend.
Then I can cover it with a tarp and get the frame completed.

Wire wheeled the bottom side of the box. Way harder than the topside, all the supports in the way. Then took a piece of wood and pounded out the dents in the floor and wheel tubs. I didn’t get the dents out, but definitely made them smaller. Then applied the rust remover.
Tomorrow I’ll rinse it, dry it and brush on rust oleum paint. I’ll see if I can find some undercoat for the wheel tubs

Got my voltmeter hooked up, I used the guts from a cheap stand alone meter. 'Calibrated' it with a 22 ohm resistor in series, it reads pretty much 8-16 volts with 12 ish right I the middle. Pic is with ignition on. I'm happy with that

Left rust remover on over night. Cleaned it off and wiped it down with acetone. I put rust oleum rubberized undercoating on wheel wells. I brush painted the rest with rust oleum satin black. Looks way better and should keep this old truck box around for many years.

Drove up to East Texas Monday to my brother's shop. Pulling the fenders, so much fun! I'm installing the missing Hinge Pillar to Fender Seals and badging my Truck as Super (all the other Super bits have been done, including new SPID).

I should be done today and the truck back together. My brother pushed me to do the passenger's side first, as it has a bit more stuff to deal with around the fender area (battery, power bits, charcoal canister). I think he was right and the driver's side should be a snap (famous last works LOL).

Happy birthday to me - ordered and received one of the new 16" Billet Muscle steering wheels from Forever Sharp. The 14" wheel just looks a little small to me installed - now waiting on the front adapter and horn assembly for it to post photos..

Hinge Pillar to Fender Seal & Super Badge install completed - so happy to have the truck back together. While it wasn't a quick job, it wasn't what I call a hard job. Though being in my brother's shop with a LOT of room and any tool that I could possibly need allowed for a near stress free time! Plus speeding time with my brother and his family made it a bit of fun ;-)

Made a custom aluminum panel for the Dakota Digital AC controller for my dash using the stock temperature controller.
I tried to find a stock used controller before I cut up my brand new one, but...no dice.
So, I cut up my new stock temperature controller to make this panel which has a power switch on each side. One for the electric fan bypass, and one for the 2-step.

New dash pad. For once, I timed this right, because it's a ton easier with the instrument cluster and glovebox out. Previous guy didn't even put nuts on those middle 3 bolts.
Included a pic of the QA tag from the previous pad. Probably not original, but it did have the steel shell inside the foam
