Thanks, it was kind of a spur of the moment decision to make it a short box. Hopefully it turns out nice when its done. The hood is a steel cowl from goodmark.

Welcome to the site. No offense, but you should have someone who knows what they are doing redo those welds. They are not what I would call "good" or "safe."

I will definately start up a thread once ive got some progress pics. Funny thing is this was not supposed to be a project, im deep in the middle of building a 70 LeMans, and this truck was just a utility vehicle/parts runner...but it will be way cooler now! I love this Forum!

None taken, I appreciate the concern! Sometims the truth hurts, lol. Allthought they do not look appealing, I used and arc set at around 170v with 7018 rod and had no problem with penetration, welded both sides. Then I fish plated a diamond inside which was plug welded on either side of the cut and perimeter welded also. Im diy guy, and had to try it for the first go. Im not too concerned about the strength of the welds right now until i finish up some other work on it (wiring, ebrake cables, driveshaft) but I am unhappy with the finished product and would like some one more savy to burn in a nicer weld. The overall goal is to tug a holiday trailer around, and the occasional car trailer my LeMans. That being said, I'd like to still box that section, and or possibly build a bolt in/over section (like a bolt in c-notch idea) just to make it really heavy duty. Any thoughts on what might be the best?

What's the furry thing just above the RH rear corner of the cab? Either a bear off in the distance, or a person's head?

Lol
That's my youngest sons head, he had his waders on to check the water depth.
He walked across and hopped in the bed as I crossed back.
Both of our dogs were back there also, but you can't see them in the pic.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Thanks...does pretty good in the mud as long as you have some space. It's long & wide enough that you can generally find traction but it could use lockers and a high steer kit. They are next on the to-do list.

Thanks, when i got the truck the factory seats were trashed and i picked these up cheap so i had to get them mounted in a hurry. That being said this winter im going to go back in and weld in blazer floor pans to flatten the floor under the front seats.
Front mount before the plate got welded to the cut down factory bracket
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC04579.jpg
Seats on the plate for test fit.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC04565.jpg
You can see how high they sit. Thats why i have to lower the floor.

looks good , what did the seats come out of? also could you shorten the factory seat mounts instead of cutting floor out? just seems like alot of work.

They are out of a 2004 Chevy 1500 extended cab. I would have cut down the seat mounts some but there is not hardly anything to remove. The truck they came from had a almost flat floor so they were designed to be taller.
