Well I went to look a parts truck today....To make a shortbed crewcab.....But I think this poor chevy is done.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds
How bad is she underneath?
|
Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds
Really bad! the owner said he just got it back after the truck was stolen and went through a 27 mile police chase. he was proud of his old chevy. but sad that it ended in a wreck. the frame is bent and as you can see the front wheel and suspension is crammed back to the firewall and the motor mounts are cracked because the engine twisted and flywheel is bent also.
I'm debated getting the hood and bed, and he has all original front grill lights etc. |
Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds
If the cab and bed are good, I'm sure you can find a good frame or a buyer for the cab.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds
was lookin back at the pics some more, and i would LOVE to have the headlight and grill setup like that white one has, that ever popular later model suburban lookin headlight and grill. id keep my stocky lookin bumper, tho LOL. be keepin my eyes open for the parts on the cheap when i get a little spare cash someday :)
the paints, the interiors, and mechanical work that goes into many are just flat amazing, just sheer artistry. people have poured blood, sweat, ( and life savings LOL)into their rides, and it shows. i do lose interest on the "huge" rims, a fascination that has been the fad the last decade or more. I cant seem to get into them on, quite frankly, anything i have seen them on, whether trucks, muscle cars, suv's, whatever...maybe im gettin too old and it is a generational thing. |

i switched from the billet grille to a stock piece, im going to use the signals in the grille, and the ones in the bumper for fog lights..i know the headlight buckets arent the right style for this yer, but i like them better..:chevy: |
Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds
i cant believe how well the paint is holding up, its quite an older resto...it sat outside in arizona for a good part of last year, plus it was driven daily in montana in snow and crappy weather for over a year before that too. i moved to AZ and of course, had the wrong motor, well, everything mechanically wrong, to come close to passing any kind of emissions...sigh. ran awesome.
so i took motor out of the 87 and put in a 63 i bought for 1k, and swapped the eagle 2s over as well. later i then decided, hey im gonna get it legal, bought complete tbi 350 from a 93 caprice i think it was, with computer and wiring harness. i barely got the motor bolted in, never fired it, and moved to kansas, a non-emissions state. so wife drove her car and i followed in my 63, which ran flawless thank god, flew back, and hauled the 87 back behind the uhaul with our stuff. i gathered up the points distributor, the old holley carb and intake manifold (i just reamed out the center holes) from the blown up 350 yanked from the 63. i bolted it all together and the sob ran, and didnt smoke or anything, i was so shocked LOL. god i love chevies, a early 70s dist, 93 350 engine, who knows what carb, fires up and runs. i did have to replace the manifold tho, the waterjacket where it goes to the heater hose was cracked, prob how he blew up the motor in the first place. got a nice aftermarket carbureted intake manifold ($100) to fit the centerbolt heads, a new hei distributor($100), my old edlebrock 600 and the thing runs great. i threw the old points dist and holley on the 63 for now till i can afford to replace it, and it runs pretty good, dint bother dialing it all in as im gonna replace that stuff, just wanted to drive it on nice days, keep seals good and stuff. why i love my chebbies LOL. |
Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds
if you look at grill on mine, i really dont like it. it has like that wide white stripe, doesnt really go with anything else on the truck. the interior is like a smokey grey color, seats door panels, everything grey or black. almost like it came off a van or something, it just looks odd. it was coming apart too, i had to sorta hide some self tappers into the headlight buckets and grill to hold it all together, lot of the little plastic tabs and stuff broken off. i keep telling myself i will do something with it one of these days LOL.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds
oh and i noticed the other day the chrome around the headlight bezels doesnt even match the center, the cab seems square to the frame, but the front clip is just crooked a hair. i never noticed it till i had it for a while and worked on it a bit, lot of stuff like that where they missed it by "that much".
i think it was put together on a saturday night, and beer was involved LOL. but its still my baby. |
