From what I remember it was 100-115ish stings on my neck and face. I have not been stung since and I am overly cautious as I do not want to see how I would react if stung again.

Morning Bill,

That sounds really bad man.

My. Dad taught us to use a sharp knife to scrape the stingers off, because if you tried to grab the poison pouch left behind, you automatically injected more venom.

Bastards for sure.

I am still laughing, despite the pain nd itch.

My lymph nodes under my left armpit are so swollen I can fill my hand.

Need to get the shed door closed and then plot my revenge.

It may have to be done under cover of darkness, and using some unpleasant chemical agent.

As the log is on the ground, and against the shed, under the bush.

Entrance approximately where the arrow shows. A bit more to the left and lower though.

Not spending £60.00 for a pest service may still led to regrets and a second casualty visit.

Amazing how the itch continues, despite antihistamines, guess it will be worse, without. My armpit and right groin lymph nodes continue to be swollen, obviously something to do with the histamine reaction from the toxins.

Sally found me some ant powder at Sainsbury’s after Morrison’s had none yesterday.

So a cautious approach at exposing the nest after dark, and hopefully a quiet end to all this.

I feel for you Rian. My Dad is severely allergic to Yellow Wasps. He is very diligent to be aware of those things around the farm.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks Buddy,

Funny how the toxin poisons you, and your body’s reaction is what makes you feel bad.

So I was too knackered, and actually uncomfortable at 11.00pm last night to go get dressed in triple layers in order to cut back the bush where the nest entrance is, approximately.

So today I decided to do a modern warfare version of wasp control/extermination in stead.

I used faithful old Ducktape and a 5 meter off cut of decking from last year, and then tossed the whole bottle around about where I think the entrance log was.

Let’s hope is works.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3619.HEIC

Mate Kevin also offered me some 3 ,meter wasp foam spray, which may become plan B if I missed the entrance and resultant kill altogether.

Here’s to peace in the garden.

The problem with the dark is thats when they rest, so less chance of getting stung, or seeing what I am doing.

Been told be a bee guy that the ideal is to poison them in daytime so the workers maximise getting poison into the hive.

Anyone remember the guy (Robert) taking a London Taxi chassis from the scrapyard to build a twin motored car?

LINK: https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...rd-engineering

Well, that is done....... Pics below.

However, he has picked up and started on this LINK: https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/215234/temptress

Should be good too.

Just a few pics to show what he ended up building on the London Cab chassis.

Not bad for a home build, using whatever was laying around.

New build should be very interesting.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Went out tonight.

I went out at 10.00pm in four layers, T-shirt, two hoodies and a fireproof overall, safety boots, leather welding gloves and safety glasses and a fireproof hood over it all. Cut a bit of the bush away. They sounded like a gang of chainsaws. I foxxed right off and shut off lights and closed the workshop. Then walked back to house. These 7 still hitched a ride inside the clothes despite me shaking and brushing myself off while still in all the layers. One got me on the belly under the four layers and the rest got poison or the glove. Bastards are pissed now. Be interesting to see if they let me out the house in the morning.
Sally helped a lot with screaming and pointing in panic.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3914.HEIC

One scar.

One pill. Antihistamine

Another later before bedtime.

Interesting thing, it seems the other stings have started to sympathy itch too.

still need to go back again to sprinkle some reaper dust later today, and remove the bits of shrub I cut off in the dark last night.

Paracetamol, (Tylenol) Ibuprofen and Chlorphenamine Maleate at 11.00pm ensured a good nights sleep, woke a few times as normal.

Did go to a single Bootfair that was a bust, except for a single sign.

However, the sting had swollen up and is a handful today.

Dam-iiiiiit.
When I was a kid I used to spray the wasp nests in our palm trees with a hose and swipe them out of the air when they attacked. They got me a few times over that summer. I never blew up like that - wow.
We had a tree trim guy come buy once and trim the palms. He was stung many times that day and said he was used to it. Eeek
They definitely get your attention.
At my place in Texas I wait until night to use wasp spray, they're docile and you get em all at once.

That looks a little sore! I think you need to medicate it from the inside out. Try a big Ice Cold Rum and Coke see if that don't help.

Yup.

I never reacted that bad.

And it’s gotten bigger.

Ice pack helps a bit, but not much.

Thanks Ray,

Yes it is actually sore.

But that is life, I need a nurse like Eve to sort the swelling and pain.

So last night I got stung, and they won.

Certainly the the last laugh

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...af094ec536.JPG

So on inspection this morning after an uneventful Bootfair, one could see the entrance and loads of wasps around.

Probably 10 in front, darting in and out constantly.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3947.HEIC

So I waited till about 11.30 to go build a new weapon.

The Reaper Stick.

Can of wasp spray and Ducktape on a stick.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...D_IMG_3948.jpg

Setting off the poison was a challenge, to get the Ducktape to depress and keep down, the button.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...1daaf0296f.JPG

And then in there, I also manipulated it for a bit, to get the most to spread around a bit.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...7521af58e5.JPG

Will go back and inspect tomorrow, and if not traffic, then it will be time to dig it all up.

Maybe get back into the shed.

There were still some stragglers around today, So I guess the Queen survived.

Report later, after food.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So after the stick of doom visited the nest twice yesterday, there were a few stragglers left today.

I would say they had won.

This morning after my shower, it was obvious I need to be careful as my body does not like this poison.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3971.HEIC

Chatting to Mickey over the fence, he said he had a solution, and less than 5 minutes later, he was there.

Can of Asda (Walmart) wasp killer in hand.

I was still trying to warn him when he was straight in.......

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3978.HEIC

After a few minutes, and a pair of gloves.

And ripping the log out and tossing it on the lawn.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3979.HEIC

Incredible how neatly they have hollowed out that log.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3980.HEIC

And contents of the poison, I went back to ASDA to see if there was any in stock, nope.

Maybe banned?

As the wasps just fall out of the air when you spray.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3981.HEIC

Tomorrow I will inspect again, and if no more wasps, I will clear up there cut back the shrubs a bit.

Turns out, neither Sally, nor Greg the current lodger (Leaving on Friday) have ever held or shot anything except for shooting off their mouths.

So a few beers, targets and two air rifles later, we had a full evening of fun.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...9_IMG_3669.jpg

Started with the targets, set up at 24 meters, or 75 foot distance

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...70d50e8217.JPG

Sally got to shoot first, every shot, accompanied by a loud scream, and the fourth one followed by “I don’t want to do this anymore”

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...724537ab34.JPG

Interesting, that at this distance, with a .177 calibration, she put this grouping together.

Meant less competition for the rest of the evening, while she carried the beers and checked and marked off the groupings as we went through them.

Good for a first time.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_3718.HEIC

Later, after the plying, we were sitting chatting outside till the mosquitos chased us indoors.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...dd0d7e5887.JPG

I had just gone to fetch another beer when I heard screams, male and female.

Came back to this.....

Fun times. My cousins and I would sit at the back door of our grandfather's house doing the same thing when were kids. Got to a point wear paper targets was not enough, so cans, toy army men, even the pecans still in the trees became the targets...

I can point in the general direction as seen.

But that level where individual pecans fall one shot at a time, reserved for the real hunters.

My uncle could shoot a .22 rifle and hit running hares, rabbits, rats while driving in his ploughed fields with his truck.

A true dead eye shot.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Hi team

Despite living in England, I know answers are everywhere

Was wondering what options are out there for lifting cars (think American and bigger than Micra or Fiat 500)

I am busy with this slow build carport that will be low as 7’4” or 2200mm or 2.2 meters on the beams.

The Galaxy is about 5’10” or 1800mm or 1.8 meter tall.

So it leaves about 18” or 450mm to rise to the minimum.

If you come forward toward the entrance though it increases to as much as 8’ or 2400mm or 2.4meter but you lose most of your cover.

When I welded the Blazer it was just axle stands and replacing the front end parts was similar with a tall jack and axle stands.

Up she goes. Or is it a he??

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psg8roaiz7.jpg

Made safe-ish.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psaywt1vb2.jpg

Or the rear

Up it goes.

And yes, axle stands too.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psyyyjxoi0.jpg

Up on axle stands, wheels off

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psyjuqhyij.jpg

So I am wondering if any of these low lift type hobbyist lifts are worth having. They ideally need to store in a way that you can park a car/truck on top of or over them.

All advice, experience and input appreciated.

I am happy to carry on with jack and axle stands if thats the concensus.

Thanks.

Here are a couple of options for you:

https://www.quickjack.com/

https://www.maxjax.com/maxjax-right-for-you/

Possible drawback for you on the maxjax is that it should be bolted down when in use. Your paving stones would not allow that to be done...

For doing things like brakes and suspension work, the quickjack might be a good option. There are others on the market, but I knew about these two.

Being able to move, or store them flat is important.

I like the quick jack option, but it seems like it would be in the way more than standard jack stands. I am not that old yet, so the old fashion way is still my choice. (I am sticking with that last statement regardless of what my body says) Also, getting the checkbook open is tuff, even if I wasn't married to an accountant, I am CHEAP.

Not sire what route to go yet.

The current build has shown me that I can change stuff, so maybe something submerged slightly to get a fairly level floor could be an option.

I fetched the Custom Chevy C10 cab lifter made about 6 years ago from mate Martins place, along with another tool.

This has lived outdoors in all weathers, all the yea5s, so will need me to make some rot repairs as one end already fell off when I unloaded it.

Makes lifting a four man lift Sized cab off the chassis on your own using the engine hoist a piece of cake.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_4172.HEIC

The cab roller frame, built by Martin is a brilliant tool, despite an old wooden pallet with wheels doing the same job.

The cab floor is stepped, and that’s reflected in the design, then add in four mounting points to secure it, and you can roll the cab about while working on it.

I will tidy it up and add some wheels before packing it away with the lifter for future use.

Been thinking of what route to go with my garage and carport “Forecourt” once the roof is on.

Years ago when I made this fake pump, these colours appealed, they still do.

The question is, do I develop the fake theme or use an existing brand.

Copy and paste

Been pressure cleaning the deck, furniture and repairing and painting all the stuff.

While waiting for paint to dry today I also applied the stickers I had made this week by a mate on the body of the dummy pump.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...8_IMG_4192.JPG

To fix one of these.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...3_IMG_4193.JPG

It is often, because you are skilled enough to produce one of these for your NASCAR truck build, in order to save weight.

And change some subtle bits.

Even if you kinda fail first time, and start again, it shows what you can and will do.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...2_IMG_4188.JPG

One small bubble to fix.

Looks like Dennis is onto a winner again.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...E_IMG_4187.JPG

He also needs a custom front splitter to aid aerodynamic flow.

Anyone doing them for 66 C10’s ?

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...0_IMG_4186.JPG

Back home, he and Tally offered it up to the trucks front end.

Looks right to me.

Next job: Build a glass fibre hood/bonnet to reduce weight.

Seems a slippery slope when you have over 800bhp under the hood, to start a weight loss Program

Clem at rubatrucks.com in Fayetteville, Arkansas also sent Dennis a steel Quuic Fill filler neck this week for the truck.

And I certainly have collected, and shared out some free stuff.

Perfectly timed by mate Scott @Jabbo was an offer of a used (not a SnapOn) wheeled toolbox for my garage.

I have a SnapOn item that came here for £75.00 a year or two ago from a mate.

But this will be great for the extra stuff laying about, especially with the current carport build.

I mentioned previously that my karma bucket was overflowing.

Where Sally lives, a bunch of paving guys with a Transit pickup and some vans have been doing a load of paving for older residents.

Her neighbour two houses down asked if she wanted to buy a mower (petrol, she likes electric) so she declined.

But asked me when I popped around.

I went to look, and it came home with me, along with two tools, a Jerry can and some fuel, all for £100.00

Happy with that as I have been looking for some time but prices put me off.

Tried it out yesterday.

After that, I went to the shop and cleaned, primed and painted the cab roller frame for the C10

Just need to fit some wheels to it today, then we have a complete tool.

I also need to work on the cab lifter tool, as it has rotten out around the mounting screws at the ends from living outdoors for years.

Coming together now.

Nice find on the mower stuff. On your cab dolly, make sure you use some large capacity and diameter wheels. Mine had smaller diameter wheels at first and with the weight of the cab on it, it didn't wheel around very well

Great advice Bill.

The wheels I have a re bigger than yours, and I would have tried to use them.

The ones Martin took off the trolley before giving it to me have a wider set of mounting points, so I may modify the mounts, or look out for a set of even larger Wheels with appropriate mounting points.

Regardless, I think that the ones I have will work, even on my paved driveway

Could be used as part of your car.

OR

Use it as the drop down door for your booze cabinet next to your outdoor BBQ area.

Collection only please.

PM gives you first dibs.

After the “ failed “ Bootfair, Sally and I climbed into the garden and cleared beds, moved my Ogre to a new open space as he had disappeared into the growth over time. I carried him to the 4 foot wall, Sally and I tried to get him on the plinth, but she is a girl, so I called my favourite 76 year old neighbour over to just help me safely get it up. Easy.

Had him about 15 years.

Loads of other jobs, including pruning, clearing and also doing a final number on the subterranean part of the wasp nest, finally covering it with soil.

Seems I now own a shed again. And @Glenanderson has a spares mower.

Am I the on;y one who has three or four future cars/projects spinning around in my head, while having one to still complete?

@georgeb and @joem83 @pauly there you go.

Part of my future planning or dreaming is something like these Owner type, or Tamiya style cars mostly seen in the Philippines.

One reply below, quoted from another forum regarding the Suzuki’s.

I am just wondering, thinking if it is all do-able.

RWD only needed, so front end may need to be addressed too, you guys tell me.

However, if rust is an issue, the construction is quite simple and my mates never had any issues welding bits up as and when required. In competitions they found the lack of weight to be an advantage and in general running around the smaller engines were better on fuel, when compared with my thirsty landrover.

I've just had a poke about on another 4x4 forum specially for Jimny's and it seems that the factory underseal is not all that great as the rust creeps along behind it, which is rather worrying... Also a slight tip if you're making an offroad toy, is to give it a 1" body lift, as that way the body mounts onto the chassis will have a little space to make them dry out and you're less likely to get the dreaded rot setting in.

Thanks guys.

And NeverRodeBefore, thats a great reply.

Hopefully you can do more input and a bit more on chassis rot or not.

I am thinking (part of future planning) of rebodying a Vitara or something with a chassis.

Rather than use an old home built kit car frame, use something that has most of the bits in the right place.

Never done it before but think it is within my abilities.

AND I WANT TO LOWER IT QUITE A BIT

This is the idea.

I think a rebody will be doable in the current IVA and various test criteria.

Of course, all of this could just be a dream and foolish, hopefully those who really know their stuff will input with encouragement or warnings.

Thanks.

Those Jeep things reminds me of a RoadKill episode with Frieberger and Finnegan in a lowered Jeep. Not my style, but they look OK.

AS far as looking and thinking about the next ride, ALWAYS Rian. I look daily and ponder.

Only 3 or 4??? But, yes, I have my '65 working now, a '75 C10 I am collecting parts for that is waiting at the farm, and then there are 3-4 more that are in my head that I want to do...Probably after the 65 and 75, I am going to do what I call a Stupid Car, something just for fun and not other reason...

Pondering.... love it.

Yes, that Roadkill jeep was good.

I need something a bit different

This would resort under the filing area of Stupid Cars.

So remember the cab lifter.

https://youtu.be/vfTC9wyQKK0

It has spent a lot of time outside, degenerating, and in fact, on my drive the one end fell off completely.

So how do you fix wood?

With welding, it’s always easy to melt more metal back into a hole.

So I dismantled both ends and filled the holes with thin dowels I had cut from some scrap wood.

Then drove new, 45mm longer screws into the holes.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_4320.HEIC

Then painted it all up once reassembled.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_4326.HEIC

Done.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag..._IMG_4334.HEIC

And of course waiting...... truck.

Great work on the truck body lift. I built one for my build previously. Although I have since used the wood elsewhere. :)
