Good deal. You're tying up loose ends

Caught this 2 lb 1 oz “Big Boy” and turned him loose. I hate putting a knife in those big stud crappie. Maybe I’ll catch him again sometime. Hope so!

They sure are! I really prefer crappie in the 1 pound range for the best eating. Those big uns eat good too, but I just would rather take a picture and let em go. I rarely rarely keep a big crappie.

You don't take big crappies? Sorry, I never grew up. What the grown man in me wanted to say is "You can eat this one's offspring". That's what I figure when I put a good fish back in the water.

I would like to put one of the windmills over the well but the wife said no, you have to have the water go somewhere when it's pumping. Probably have to put in a couple of check valves in the line because this well is 400' deep, think they set our pump at 278'

.

Decided to mow the lawn today in the middle of the afternoon. Temperature was about 107* with clear sky.

I took several breaks but still ended up getting way too hot. After it was all done and I was inside in the cool the nausea hit me...I felt like puking for a good half hour and didn't really feel normal for another couple hours.

This has happened to me once before when I was in my 30s at a golf range in the heat. Not a pleasant experience in either case.

Be careful out there.

you're right.those old pumps turn up when you least expect them.i went last week to an old boys place about 5 hours from here to buy a landscape rake for my tractor.we talked about tractors in the yard for a few minutes and then he said, you might as well come in and see my new tractor, walked in and there was an old pump, not as old as what you found, probably from the 70's but i asked if it was for sale?he said it had sitting there in the corner for years but he'd sell it,but my truck was full,so i see a trip back there very soon to get the pump.

The swing tongue jack on my trailer broke . The nut inside the lift tube stripped out . The trailer just dropped to the ground glad I didn’t have the Chevelle on it I had just taken it off and unhooked the trailer from the dodge . The screw is fine but couldn’t find a nut to weld onto the drop tube . It’s 3/4 -8 left handed Acme thread . McMaster has them for 6$ but by the time I buy and ship then weld it up might as well buy a new one . But for the time being I used an old tongue jack from my cargo trailer that I replaced with an electric unit . Couple of cuts and some welding and it good for the time being . Little to light duty but until I get a 2k pound unit it’ll do .

Glad the car was off and toes were clear. It pays to hang on to stuff like the old togue jack. "We have that in stock"

It wasn’t that old when I replaced it . I put the electric lift because of my shoulder . Never was the same after the rotor cuff tear repair just doesn’t like that circular motion

I had a bunch of things to do outside but it's rained for a couple days and the next few don't look promising either so i did the front brakes on my Uncle's Chrysler Intrepid,no pictures but a horrible mess, everything seized and rotten,as always an hour job turns into about 3 fighting with junk but then i got fooling around in an old Craftsman tool box my Father in-law told me to take when we were there a couple weeks ago helping them clean up and thin out some stuff.there were some AC Fire Ring spark plug boxes, long before Delco was involved i think, something on the box about 1949,Made in Canada and The Thompson Co. i think it said.i'd never seen AC plugs in boxes like that,an old, made in Springfield,Mass 1/4 inch drill, sorry i forgot the brand but it must weight 10 pounds?i plugged it in and away it went but the cord had me worried.some made in Canada Gray tools, good stuff, some Craftsman, made in the USA,more good stuff including a 1/2 drive Craftsman ratchet with a long handle.i have several Snap-on ratchets, one 3/8's drive with a long handle and i use it all the time and was looking for a long handled 1/2 inch.i have 3 or 4 Made in England Record vises and brought home a # 4 Record vise that swivels and i have a home for that on a metal working/sheet metal brake table i'm building.all kinds of cool stuff.i love it when a plan comes together.

When you said Fire Ring I pictured that cool logo right away. I have AC plugs in boxed from the '80s and thought that was something. Also 7 on a blister pack. But you win!! :D

Old tools are the best. A few years ago I had a small hex head screw I couldn't reach and discovered a great long handled 1/4" drive ratchet from Milwaukee. Then at a swap meet I bought a long handle 3/8 drive. all I need now is a long 1/2". I never knew about longer handle ratchets until recently. Great tools! I have all the stubby stuff and palm ratchets, but when there's room to swing....................

haven't done it yet, but will be later today once the stores open.
we been having a lot of forest fires lately and not unusual to smell smoke.
every morning i let the dawgs out for their bizness, and this morn (4:30 am) the smoke smell was pretty strong.
i noticed my dawgs running over behind my shed and acting stupid, so i go walk over there and see smoke and flames coming off my fence.
grabbed my hose and put it out....prob be around $300-350 for new panels and assorted lumber to fix.
guess i got lucky, my shed didn't catch and only a couple pieces of siding got all warped and melty.
best i can figure is some a-hole walking down the alley prob flicked a butt in the grass along side my fence.

Weve been waiting for a dry string of days to por a dog pen.
11' x 21' in a nice shady spot under an old cedar. Today was the day. I finished it by hand laying in the front end loader bucket as it was setting up very fast. We got it though.
I'm beat.

Smoking is a thoughtless habit. Expect thoughtlessness.

i smoke sometimes (off and on habit...) but i don't go throwing my butts all over the place-never more than 5 ft from an ashtray in my shop (don't smoke in the house)
i'm not happy about it, but i am happy it happened at that end of the fence, i have a very large, dry hedge on the other end which runs right beside my carport, my quad trailer, my garage, my crewcab, my camper...
i still need to move the 1x4 down to match the rest, but at least the dawgs can go back ouside again.
not as well made or HD as the rest of the fence, but the price was right, 257 clams, and after 28 yrs in this house we're hoping to move in the next 2-3 yrs...getting surrounded by major development

I don't mind concrete, but there are only about 10 days a year that are perfect for it. The pen belongs to a good friend with 16" Beagle dogs. I hope they are happy.

I have a cellar and garage to pour here, yet. And last pour I did I wished it was my last. About a 12' x 16' w/5'w x 6'l ramp under a lean-to roof (exc. ramp). A very hot sunny day. It was a lot for me to pull and float before it wanted to set. I had figured on the pour being shaded but the angle of the sun came in on it. No waiting around for that concrete to set. I couldn't get to the next step fast enough, worked me to death, the fastest slab I ever poured!

I'm a smoker and I would never throw a butt or any kind of trash in someone's yard or anywhere for that matter. That's littering. If I'm not near an ashtray then the butts go into my back pocket until I can dispose of them properly. It's called manners and I try to be as polite as possible with my bad habit.

special-K 06-30-2023 07:35 AM

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

^^^ Yeah, I roped them all into one with my mindless habit comment. But I do know smokers who are responsible about it, which takes a conscious effort. A habit means impulsive action and disposing is part of that. I figure by filling your ashtray you are showing yourself how many you smoke. No one stops to think how many butts they tossed today. I appreciate a smoker who will ask if I mind they smoke one, or wait till we get somewhere to light one up.

I got out there in the shop and got started on trying to get dash and indicator lights going on the camaro. I had limited success as I got dash lights but the turn signals won't indicate on the dash. Im gonna get in there and figure it out.

Ah, '68. Usually a ground. I "think" those have a ground strap to the instrument panel, being the housing is all plastic. Are you doing a restoration and new wiring ?
I have a '67. Complete resto in the works. Trying to learn final bodywork and paint right now.

Someone is lame all over. Not just that they can't tie something down right, either. Why not deflate, fold, and stash in the vehicle?? Who'da knew an inflated raft could catch wind and want to blow off. Probably tied on the roof of a car with one rope or maybe just laid in the back of a pickup. Walmart sells that brand. I have an Intex air mattress

Got tired of seeing how lazy I've been in my retirement by allowing these scotch broom bushes to grow up all over my property.

So I broke out the pruners, guzzled an energy drink, and headed out to do some serious clipping damage to those pesky weeds.

Felt I was finally accomplishing something around here when I noticed that a good amount of flies started buzzing around my head.

That's when I looked down and realized I was practically standing on an underground hornets nest!

Immediately raced back inside, jumped in front of the air conditioner and cracked open a cold one.

...maybe next year.

Yeah. It was a ground issue. I added an extra wire piggy backed to the strap and it got a lot of it. It is the org harness, never hacked up. Old woman's 6 cyl car in it's 1st life. I still have to get the right indicator for the blinker going and I will be done in the dash area.

Not that close to other people. Maybe fireworks by someone stupid? They tend to land far and wide. Good thing that it got knocked down quickly. One of my neighbors (who should never have possession of a firearm) went out and shot his .45 auto in the air on a 4th of July (before I moved there). A slug was discovered on a neighbor's roof when they were having a new roof installed. Later he was launching bottle rockets, when I did live there, and one landed on the same neighbor's roof. Good thing it was composition shingles instead of a shake roof, like original. That guy was the village idiot.
