Sounds like you are a think first kind of guy. Getting to be a rare trait (it often seems)

Well, if you were privy to my driving record before '76, you might not think so. I did some crazy driving in those days. But nobody got hurt. By the same token, the crazy stuff like passing a school bus with the red lights flashing is just that- crazy, and criminal, and I would never have done that. Killing kids is out of my scope of deeds. The driver of that truck deserves whatever he gets (got) thrown at him in court. I would feel so bad about running someone over that I'd just probably literally die of shame.

I was a very safe and responsible driver in my younger days. I would never put a car up on two wheels unless there were four people in the car to maintain proper balance.

IF, and that's a huge IF, I EVER (big EVER, too) went around a bus with red lights flashing I would do so carefully as I watched for that child who is the reason the bus is sitting there with red lights flashing. That person was not thinking!

I hit a dog once. Out in the country, crossing a river on a bridge, car parked on far side, old man leaned up against his car. Looked like he was there just taking in the peacefulness. Just as I came past his car, out from in front of his car darts this huge German Sheppard. It literally ran into the front corner of my car. It's left front leg was severely broken. I believe it probably had to be put down. I felt so terrible I didn't even care about my mashed up fender. I figured that old guy was going to lose his best friend. I will never forget how that felt and I never want to feel that way again. It made me think how it would feel if I hit a human being. I have always figured I would give up driving if that ever happened.

That wasnt a not seeing the bus . He had to veer around it into the oncoming lane. Total disregard for the law and other people.

Hopefully he gets to spend some time in jail . The list of charges should carry so time specially his tampering with evidence trying to make the truck look like it was inoperable.

That's really neat. She appears to be quite pleased.

I had another friend/fellow member send me that on Messenger. Never seen it around here. I'd like to buy it for a little buddy for my white K2500, but no can do right now. Plus, you know the saying, "I don't need another project right now. I know, I know. It can sit till I'm ready, but I needed another excuse beside I'm a B.A.S.O.B. for once . Oh, there is another excuse and it's legit. I'd really like my next project to be a '50s p/u

These days parts are available to rebuild a body. Dime size hole or 75% of the panel rusted, it's the same fix. I have only bought rust free trucks in the past. But not scared of rust as much now that you find trucks with rust even in the S/W and the parts are available to fix. I've been into these trucks since before welding up sheet metal was a thing. It used to be braze it, and you could still warp the panel very easily

I'd like to offer this opportunity to share with me the pleasure of enjoying watching this behemoth churn it's way through some serious mud

Wonder what the speed rating is on chevron tires? Good video

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Probably hiway, but maybe 45-50 mph? I see fertilizer trucks and other ag equipment running right along with those

I stumbled into this on YouTube and want to share it

That 6x6 sounds good. Reminds you of the old 671 Detroits.

Steady on it churning those wheels like a tractor

Ever hear of a Field Marshal diesel tractor from England? You know how diesels can go all day once you get them started. Look how the Field Marshals start

That's amazing, isn't it? My grandfather had an International Farm-all 200, one of the old red tricycle tractors that were common back when. I saw him start it a few times with the hand crank when the battery was low. He would have loved that set up. It would be interesting to see the engineering behind that and an explanation of how it works. First thought is it must be a lower compression diesel than what we are used to.

I read up a little. They say carbon build-up becomes an issue. On that tractor the 'blank' shotgun shell is an optional way to start. I guess the other way is hand crank? The shot actually turns the engine.

Not sure I'd want to hand crank a diesel engine. That way lay broken bones if a minor misstep were made.

special-K 01-16-2021 07:55 AM

Re: My Facetruck thread.

I think I know why they came up with that very involved and lengthy 2-man shotgun shell starting process that can be hard on the engine, or risked breaking bones hand cranking rather than the simple convenience of electric glow plugs on those British tractors. Lucas

It's breathing hard, though! Our neighbors next door decided to put in some red bark in their planters. We had nearly hurricane force winds here in southern California. It was wild. Shingles flying off the roofs and everything. That red stuff is all over the street, in our planters and on the sidewalks. I think that I swept up half a bag when I cleaned up yesterday for the trash pick up. I wasn't even going to sort through it for the red pieces, to put back in their planter. :smoke:
