I’m sure the trim can still be installed...would just have to be super careful making the slots. |

I posted a thread in the general discussion section concerning that same issue and someone suggested that I crop the picture a little which did the trick for me. Got my instrument cluster back in after adding my new cheap $20 Amazon tachometer. I would like to reduce the brightness a little and the tach allows that by pushing a little button on the tach face, but that is behind the original plexiglass lens now and I don't want to drill even a little hole in the original lens to dim it. Overall I'm pleased with how it all came out and I'll quickly get used to the brightness. The red ring on the tach is due to the red needle reflecting off of the chrome bezel hole cutout if that makes any sense. |

Wifey helped me install the factory GMC, paint matched tailgate.
I have all new trim to go on it, but I'll leave that to the bodyshop guys. I bought this tailgate for $50.00. Couldn't get the $50 bill out of my pocket fast enough to pay the guy. Picture me running towards the wife's truck while carrying this tailgate yelling, "START THE CAR, START THE CAR!!!" |

I ordered front and back rear wiring harnesses from LMC. I untaped the back harness and soldered on wires for the 7 pin connector and taped it back together. I also cleaned the bulb housings and fixed the wiring going to them. I got all the lights and turn signals working. The brake lights are not working. I will troubleshoot the brake switch tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Brake lights not working so I got my meter and tested the brake switch and it is good. I measured 12v on the orange wire and jumpered it to the white wire and still no brake lights.
I had no idea where the white wire went. Thankfully I downloaded the wiring diagrams from this site. I was able to trace the white wire to a half moon shaped wire connector where I found the wire wasn’t making good contact. Got it fixed and have brake lights now! |

Hey I'm just glad the dang pictures aren't coming out sideways anymore. Many years ago I added some cheap tachometer guts to my guage cluster but eventually the thing died. It also stood out brighter than my other gauges and that was never a problem, so this new cheap tachometer brightness shouldn't be a problem either. Come to think of it, the old one was probably long since dead before I even noticed. So how many of you have run out of gas before you even noticed that big ol' fuel guage was sitting on empty... I rest my case. |

That bezel cleaned up really good!
Looks amazing! I would have grabbed the other goodies there too. -ignition switch and bezel -cigar lighter and bezel -factory radio (even if it didn’t work) There’s probably more...you found a good one there! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
That truck is at this place:
https://www.frenchlakeautoparts.com/#CONTACTUS I had to have the gauge cluster shipped to me. If I had been able to see it in person, then you bet I would have grabbed a bunch of stuff. |

Back when I last replaced my shocks I noticed my mounting studs were pretty stripped. Just got around to replacing them and installing CPP shock supports as well. These were a bear to replace.

Oh this new $20 tachometer is awesome! Fired up the truck for the first time after installing this thing and the needle immediately jumped to 5400 rpm. Stayed that way for about a half an hour while I drove to town and then the second time I started the truck the needle didn't move at all. I couldn't care less, it's pretty blue and now that I fixed the striped out printed circuit ground screw and added blue LED bulbs I can read the oil pressure gauge at night. Hey at least it's still accurate with the engine off right? |

Piling up the pieces needed to do a power steering install on my truck. Waiting on new power steering pump and alternator belts along with the new rag joint.
Also working on a custom bumper that will be only as wide as the bed box. |

Took truck in for alignment. I had set the new tie rods to match the old ones and put the old shims back after replacing the cross shafts. It probably would’ve been close, but since I had dropped the front close to 2”, everything thing was off. The camber was tilted in and the tires were toed in 1 1/2”.

Not sure if I'm just going to recover the bottom door panel black, or change it to the same as the door panel. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I had to cannibalize the Battery out of my '68 C/10 Stepside to mount in the '71 GMC.
Yesterday, it was raining cats'n'dogs in Tucson [rare event] and I had to run into town -- wipers and lights on -- for a repair on my Android phone. [While working under the truck last Summer, the lens of the camera got smashed in my hip pocket.] They finally got the lens part in. So I went down. It would be a 90 minute wait, so I was gonna hit a bookstore to hang. No Start Gripe. Just the primordial ''click''. Had to go back inside the store to borrow my phone to call Roadside Rescue. The phone was fixed before the jumpstart guy got there. It started right up with the booster. Before going over today, I read 12.82 VDC on the battery terminals. I ran the Jimmy into O'RAP and got the System Check. Guy said the Batt was bad.[Bad cell, I guess.] Alt and starter OK. It's about 4 years old, so I will replace it maybe Wednesday. Until then, it'll run fine with the Pickup's battery. |

Started it again later and the needle shook like crazy for a second and then pegged itself past 8 grand! :haha: I don't think this tach likes being plugged into an electronic ignition...I don't think this tach likes being plugged into anything, so I'll disconnect that lead and just admire its pretty blue lightning anyway. Thanks for the complement. :D |

Added LED backup lights and in this picture the one on the right is LED and then both are LED in the dark. I think that will be a big help backing down my driveway at night. :) |

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Today I received my order from LMC. Two 8 foot fleetside 68-72 bedsides. Two lower front bed repair panels. And two door skins.
I am creating a fleetside longbed for my 157" wheelbase C30. So what I have to do is lengthen the bed 30 inches. I already have the front, top rail section, from a rusty bed. I bought the door skins mainly for the straight beltline at the door handle. I'm sure that I will need to raise the bed floor a few inches to get it low enough to line up with the cab. Cab has a 3 inch body lift on it already. I'll start a thread on this when I get into it some. |
