Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I spoke with Wes from Classic Heartbeat and he gave me some major tips about reassembling my front end.

Installed the led dome light a forum member made for me.. it's really really bright |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
i'm pretty upset about the dome light I put in a few months ago, it's already broke on one side where the plastic clips hold it in, so the other side will break before too long and it'll be hanging like the old one was!
who made it for you and how much? if they don't mind us knowing... |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Today, I removed the cowl cover on my 69. The Lisle wiper removal tool works like a champ, and I'd recommend it at the very low price. Actually, the hardest part about removing the cowl cover was figuring out the needlessly complex radio antenna mounting system, but once that was done, no problem.
Cleaned up thoroughly under the panel, lubed the wiper linkage, gave the cowl cover a good waxing, cleaned up and treated the rubber seal that goes between the cowl and the engine hood, then put everything back together. The reason for doing this was to make sure that there was no accumulations of dead leaves, dirt, and other crud that would hold moisture and promote rusting. Feels good to know that all the metal under there is in really good shape (no rust at all), and that one more little job is done. Next, vacuum bleeding the brake system, next sunny day. |

"Spotted" in sheet. And then sealed with adhesive. Painted flat black.. I still get fresh air. Through the windows and wind wings.. Using Vintage air if I want to change the temp. Works for me. |

Nothing, but tomorrow I remove the brakes from the cab and dive into the accelerator. Takes me a while, but this cab is nearly stripped.
Now if I can find someone to remove my windshield. At this rate I'll end up doing that too. I'd rather not. This is all new to me, and the windows have the stainless. |

New diff and brake booster for me this weekend. Going from a blown up 373 with posi to an open 308.
And no vacuum leak will allow me to adjust my carb properly. |

Received my bumper guards from brotherstrucks that were back ordered for a couple weeks. Had a slight hiccup while installing them because the bolts were not long enough but after getting the correct length bolts they bolted on no problem.

Cleaned out a bay and put the truck inside before winter sets in. I bought it in June and it will never sleep outside again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Today I finally got my Map Lights wired and working. I aimed my bumper driving lights. I ordered a new Dash bezel, that should be here by Wednesday, so I'll be redoing my whole dash next weekend. Can't wait.:metal:

Painted my wheels gloss black, made a big difference. Had a dumb moment, went to move my truck and it wouldn't move forward or back. Thought oh no my transmission. Got underneath to check the linkage and was fine. Checked fluid fine. Burned my arm on the exhaust, ouch! Come to find out after putting the wheels back on I still had the rear jacket up:lol:.

Finally got the 6.0 I rebuilt into the 67 today. Also changed from Auto to manual. Still have wiring to do and the normal, but soon!
No more carburetor, turn the key and go even if it does sit for a week or two! The 350 has a Thumpr cam and was a little to much for traffic so the 6.0 is a little milder. I went with a older A833/NP440 4speed overdrive that has almost the same ratio's as the 200R4 it replaces. The Vintage air compressor pulley has to be changed to the one I used for testing on the engine test stand. I used Captain Fab's clutch brackets with my HydroBoost and it worked great. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Jacked up the rear and got the fill plug loose on the differential. Hopefully I have time this week after work to change the fluid. Also finally got my interior heater box out so I can clean the last of the mouse nest out.

Today I took it for one last drive and then put it in garage for winter. Latest time of year I've ever been able to drive it without snow.

Finished the body work and rattle can fautina to the blue panels. Still need to take care of the white roof area. Also FedEx came with a few gems.

I got the new all aluminium radiator installed in the ramp truck today.
The radiator clamps don't fit perfect but they do tighten it down and hold it in place so I'm good with it for now. I just wanted to get it in before real cold weather got here. it has the proper water anti freeze mix now.:chevy: |

Sat under the hood with my butt on the driver side mounted battery, my phone camera in one hand, the shop light in the other and repeatedly attempted to shoot a picture of the casting numbers and date code on the back of my block. I have a ton of shots of the bell housing, back of the head, wiring harness, rear of the intake manifold, oil pressure sending unit, transmission bolts going into the mounting flange, blackness and very overexposed whiteouts. It took far too long to get the shot. A mirror made quick work of it in the end ( top tip! ).

Decided to put in my one piece back glass. Was a tough one man job. Painted the white letters on my gate. Painted my column.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
After reading about cowl rust issues and repairs with the 67-72s, I decided to get down on the pavement, and clean out the body drain holes. I was mostly concerned with making sure that there was no dirt or decayed leaves and needles in the area between the cowl and the front fenders, so I used one of those plastic ties to get into the drain holes and pull out anything that would hold moisture. The left side had some crud in there, but the right side was clean. Also did the doors, and rinsed them out to make sure all the drain holes flowed properly.
Finished up by washing out the front "horns" at the bottom of the fenders, and hosing off the underside of the truck. No bad surprises, so I'm tired, dirty, but happy. My thought is that if I keep on top of stuff like this, I can keep the tin worm away. |

You have a nice old LongBed in Wyoming ~
Love it , take good care of it so the tin worm doesn't eat it out from underneath you, DRIVE and enjoy it plus work it ~ that's what GENERAL MOTORS LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS were made for :metal: . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
We are pretty fortunate here in Wyo, very dry weather and no salt is used on the roads. most vehicles here have no or very little rust.
This truck was purchased new in Powell, Wyo. it has spent it's whole life here. |

RUST Issues
Understood .
Be aware that even in the California Deserts these trucks tend to rust out because GM dropped the ball and didn't make any effort to prevent rusting . This is why it's so critical to keep an eye on rust and be pro active . I hope you'll do a major Service and tune up on it then DRIVE it as they're very good drivers . |
