 We went on vacation many years ago. My wife did all the planning because at the time I commuted many miles to work. She checked the temperatures on our route, and packed accordingly (she's very organized). We camped in Phoenix the first night, and then drove into the mountains to camp the second night. The mountains are considerably colder than Phoenix, I can tell you. We ended up wearing everything we owned that night, because we weren't packed with that kind of clothing. My breath was condensing when I got up in the morning to make some breakfast. We had borrowed a motor home from her father, so we had a stove. It had a heater, too but I hadn't expected the cold, so I hadn't turned it on. We ended up driving to Nogales and walked across the border to get a couple of wool blankets. She met her match with the people selling those blankets! I forget if we visited Tombstone before or after we went into Mexico for those blankets. They were green and white, with a little black. We still have them.

That’s a deal you couldn’t begin to by the parts to put one together that cheap. Jocko you need to come buy that and spend a couple weeks. We could hit the backroads and fill up trailers with your knack of finding all the goodies. I swear you must have c10 sonar

Found the Dark Olive 72 1/2 ton Cheyenne 4x4 on Craigslist back in May out of Eastern Oregon, took a trip over to see it and the Light blue truck a 69 1/2 ton Custom trim 4x4 was there also available but not listed on Craigslist. It did not have a title at the time and the owner said he would work on getting. About 45 days later he contacted me with good news that he now had the title. So two separate trips to go pick them up. After I picked up the last one the Farmer had several more farm vehicles and tractors out on the other side of the road for sale getting ready for an estate sale. I noticed in the back a dually C30, I called back to the house and he said its yours for $500, so I guess I will be going back for another trip soon to complete the triple play. Sometimes you never know what will happen if you go take a peak. The hubcaps were a total of about a dozen for $30, mix and match a few 4x4 with cut outs and the older ones in the picture. The motor is a completely rebuild 292 ready to go, after I repaint and dress it up a little. Over all I spent under $4000 for everything and the 72 green truck had several NOS parts still in the boxes in the cab and a few desirable items in the the bed that I need to go through.

Hello folks. I am visiting the Reno area next week and I am interested in this truck:

https://reno.craigslist.org/cto/d/19...666091765.html

Just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about this truck. I have emailed the seller but no reply yet. No phone listed either. I was hoping to drive it home.

I wish I knew how to post the CL photos on here. Any suggestions?

Thanks for responding. Interesting that there are no real photos of the passenger side, but in one front photo I can roughly get the idea that something is not good on that side. Too bad that folks don't give the whole story up front. I would still like to see it in person.

just noticed date stamps on photos.. not always accurate unless camera operator keeps clock set, but Jan and Jun '17 is what's on there..

be careful with that one but good luck if there's enough there to make it worthwhile..

The owner just called me and we talked for awhile. I am not expecting the paint to be like new. In fact I was hoping it would be original old paint. But he said the damage was limited to the passenger door. He will be sending me more photos. I am interested but I am also cautious if you know what I mean. AC does not work and I am not surprised. It is good to hear from folks like you who have actually seen the truck. Of course I want to crawl under the truck and look under the doors, etc but that will have to wait until I get there Sept 6. Thanks for your help.

Hello again KillerB.
I too noticed those date stamps. That could be either good or not so good. I hope the seat is better now than in the photos. He said he had it rebuilt with a black scrollwork seat cover. I think this fellow's main effort was on the engine and related items such as radiator and gas tank. Just hoping it will make a cross country trip.

I don't know - but, since you're interested, I did speak with the seller and he has zero interest in even dealing with shippers. Nice.. Anyway, maybe you'll have better luck with him - said he has a lot of local interest and sounded like he didn't want to be bothered (by us out-of-staters).

That's not a bad idea Greg. But it would somewhat defeat my goal of a great camper for a low price if I had to buy a truck to get it home (could always re-sell the truck I guess). It may come to that though, can't find crap in TX, apparently people here just slept on their horses in the 70s. All the nice campers are in Colorado (Mitchell was based there and the vast preponderance of Mitchells I see for sale are still in the state) and the NW states (WA, MT, OR, etc). Some in CA/UT neck of the woods, but not like the NW. I have a small subset of mfgrs I look for and the pickins are slim. Can always find something, just can't find something nice that also happens to be close. I need to get my truck done and just drive to the NW and stay until one comes up for sale. Or just stay period! FWIW, I don't think this Chinook requires a longhorn, should fit an 8' bed I believe.

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

I have been wanting to drive my 71 to that part of the country and spend a few days checking out the sights. However for one, time will not allow it right now or anytime soon. Two, I imagine a half ton would not appreciate the load with a lighter rated higher rear end.
It appears to have a fiberglass top which is awesome for longevity but if anything like a fiberglass service bed I have for a dually, they can be way heavier than one thinks.
I imagine I better look for a light duty pull type but that thing is awesome for a 3/4 ton guy. If anyone has experience with a slide in camper like that on a period half ton I would like to hear it.

Not on Craigslist that I'm aware of but for sale here in my town, a very nice 1971 K5 Blazer. I called and spoke to Gary, the owner of the shop and he said hes asking 20k. It looks to be rust free and he said it is a great driving truck. He also said that his shop has installed a new interior and will be installing new side trim next week and the paint only needs buffing. Although one of my least favorite colors, I'd have to leave this one alone since its in such nice condition for original paint. Since I'm eyeball deep in my 72 project this one cannot be mine.:waah: I've committed to not buy another one until I've got mine moving under its own power. If anyone would like a particular pic lemme know, I'd be glad to help, plus it would give me the excuse to run down the road and get up close and personal with this beauty. When I took these pics the shop was closed so I only looked at it from over the fence.:chevy:
