Glad you enjoyed the read. It has been a fun project so far, but definitely looking forward to seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. Also, much appreciated on the congratulations. Being a dad has been a blast so far. Lots of work but totally worth it!

After we put the kiddo down for the night, I Snuck up to the shop to get a small project going and also listen to the WSU cougs on Pac-12 after dark. Made a little progress and my cougs won!

Starting to tear the pickup apart again to go through some final sanding and get all my panels ready for urethane primer and paint. I started with the doors tonight. Got everything seam sealed.

Also, Last weekend i use my dad’s sand blaster cabinet to hit a few small parts. I robbed the door panel trim from some old doors i have. They were in pretty good shape. I’ll need the trim to hold my new door panels in place. Got them in primer last week, too.

Lastly, while i was using my dad’s sand blaster cabinet last weekend, we started flipping through some paint chip books. Really liking this blue/teal color chart. Hope to get a color picked out soon do i can get the paint.

Pickup is being blown back apart. Hopefully next time it’s goes back together it’ll be in a color! Probably a ways out still.

Been painting small random brackets and pieces whenever i get a chance, too.

It’s been over a month since i last updated thread. I managed to accomplish a couple of small items, mostly consisting of sanding.

Had some family swing by a couple weekends ago and i took advantage of the extra bodies to help move my box to a rolling cart. Once on the cart, i did a final sand before urethane primer.

With better access to the back of the cab, I sprayed a couple areas with the feather fill to clean up the body lines a bit more. After a couple rounds of that, the cab is ready for a few coats of urethane primer.

I also finished prepping the front bumper as well as the entire front clip and doors for final primer. My raw hands will appreciate the break from the sand paper. :lol:

I put the core support patch off for so long that i had forgotten about it until i saw the damage when dismantling the front clip. It needed a small patch where the battery acid thinned/pitted the metal pretty bad. Also had to weld in a nut that had popped out at some point.

I’ll be meeting up with my parents for a small get together this weekend, so hopefully my dad and I can get my paint order finalized. Also picking up the catalyst for the urethane primer so hopefully that happens in the near future!

I know exactly what you're going through - the sanding never seems to end. We've been sanding on our truck for months and decided to take a break from bodywork to work on mechanical items. Besides, it's hard to get the shop warm enough to spray anything right now anyway.

But keep going - one day, all of a sudden, you'll be spraying color!

I’ve been tinkering in the shop a little bit each night. I’ve got the bed ready for a spray in liner. I went back and forth on whether to paint or line it, but because the wheel tubs and front panel are original and have minor flaws, i think the bed liner will hide it better. So hopefully that happens this weekend.

Also, I’ve been doing a lot of searching here on the forum regarding my partial vin on the frame. From what i can tell, it is a 67 frame, based on the first # being a 7. I had a few reservations on the accuracy of this as my frame has the dimple for power steering, and it also looks like the core support mounts have too large of holes. It’s hard to tell if a previous owner enlarged them or not. Does anyone know if a 67 frame could have power steering?

Quick update.

To make sure i had the right mounts for the core support, i decided to install and align the front clip of the cab. Looks like it is a 67/68 frame for sure!Attachment 2077776

Finally got to spraying some urethane primer. Started off by spraying the bed floor just so i could get a feel for how it sprayed.

Next i sprayed the cab and front clip. It turned out decent other than a little orange peel.

This week i started to wet sand the urethane primer with 400grit. I have to admit, i actually don’t mind the wet sanding (so far). It’s pretty satisfying feeling the panel get so smooth and looking so straight. Pretty sure I’ll need one more coat of the urethane primer to finish it up before i seal it.

I’m going to try to sneak up to the shop this weekend to make some more progress on the sanding :uhmk:

After wet sanding everything I went through and sprayed another coat of 2k urethane primer. I’ve started up in the sanding again after i let it cure for a bit. Mainly been working in the evenings for an hour here and there.

The cab is looking pretty good. I went through and marked it up with some tape to fill in all the small little pin holes i missed earlier. Also hit a couple spots with seam sealer that i had missed and then the are a few spots that need a small spot prime and sand to get right.

I hope to finish up the sanding in the near future so I can move everything out of the shop and to a potential bodyshop to cleanup anything i missed and to get paint rolling. Looking forward to putting this step of the project behind me.

Pictures aren’t anything special, but nothing exciting has really happened haha.

I'm right there with you - not much visual progress to see, but it all pays off when the paint goes on. This is a time-consuming part of bodywork for sure. But it looks like you're close to paint!

As i mentioned above, still trying to stay motivated on the project and making the most out of my short stints in the shop!

I have pretty much the entire pickup sanded down to 400. Only a few minor things to go over before i call it good on my end!

Switched gears to the frame. I had been talking forever about getting the frame blasted and I’m finally ready to make it happen. I stripped the frame bare and have it ready for a mobile blaster. Lots of rivets removed for the future suspension ;)

Awesome! Glad to see your finding time for the truck with the little one. How is the adjustment? I will be in the same place in the next few weeks and I have been going hard on my truck while I still have the time. I am very excited to meet our little one and hope to still get out there too. Thanks much! I remember doing the same thing before he was born. I took probably about a month off from the truck and then eventually started getting in the shop an hour here and there after he went to bed. The first few weeks are the most tiring, but it’s totally worth it!

Congrats on the baby, btw. Being a parent is one of the coolest things ever. And a little advice, spend a little time before the baby is born cleaning up your shop. Makes it much easier to stay productive on the project with a clean work area and less time to work on it... ohhh and coffee :mm:

Blasting done! Hope to get everything coated in the next couple of weeks and then dive into putting it back together.

Managed to get the frame and front crossmember in paint. I did a couple coats of POR-15 rust preventative and then a couple coats of POR-15 top coat chassis black. Looks a whole lot cleaner and seems to be very tough. I made sure to test fit the c-notches before paint. Getting the QA1 suspension kit installed is next on the list.

Looking good! I wish I could afford QA1, it looks super nice and I bet it handles like a dream. Unfortunately I feel that by the time I would pay conversion plus shipping it would be like twice the cost.:(

The suspension kit front and back is mostly installed. Biggest pain of the entire project was all the rivets that had to come out. It me roughly a week and a half to get the entire kit installed with an hour here and there.

Started off by reinstalling the front crossmember and wheeling the rear diff to the rear.

I did most of the frame modifications prior to paint, but this one slipped my mind. Just a quick coat of paint over it after I finished.

Suspension front and rear installed mostly. Everything fit together really nicely. Definitely seems like a quality product. Removing Rivets were the toughest part of the entire operation.

Mocked up my fuel cell to makesure there weren’t any conflicts with the Pan head bar and the rear sway bar.

How in the heck are you able to work on it in this crazy stupid heat!?! It is killing me not working on the truck... I will be a bit this weekend though... I am at that point i need to add primer and start the final filler and well in this heat i cannot. So i will be installing Seam Sealer and POR15 in places. I can keep the shop door down, fans going and mini-split on to keep it around 80 inside maybe, otherwise i need to open the shop door to exhaust the paint fumes from the the primer..
