maybe, that was the spot for a tach, and a lot of the big trucks had them.

here are some shots of a correct one, the early ones had the separate "brain" under the hood.

I was wondering if there would be any advantage in swapping out to the smaller wheel, but I noticed the fronts don't match up, I'll post a pic of my front wheel

keep all your 22.5's the 20's are a split rim, and tire shops won't mess with them. there is also more choice in the 22.5 size, I picked up a set of those to replace the 20's on my 65.

How many of the 1979-80 Chevy C70s and GMC C7000s were optioned with the 454 tall-deck V-8? This engine was dropped from the medium lineup after 1980 and would not return until 1999, when it was re-engineered as the "Vortec 7400MD" and had replaced the ubiquitous 366 and 427 V-8 engines in the then-current C and T series lines.

Some day...1983 C60
Runs good but I'd like a 4l80e in place of the 4speed. Ran out of back burners so this project is in the freezer, :)

I just got a 55 GMC 370 Series 2.5 ton dump truck that was used as a farm truck. 270 I6 with 4 spd and pto. It still runs and hydraulics still work. I will be bringing it home in the next month or two. It snowed the night before I went to do the inspection...

Time for a newer rear end? Freightliner box vans(UPS/Fedex) use GM and modern diesel drivetrains.

Still working on my 67 C50. Some day it will have real paint.
Cut the frame off behind the cab and grafted a 92 TopKick frame to get the 10 lug rear. Freightliner front axle narrowed 10". Disk brakes all around. 445/45's on the rear. Grafted front fenders onto the bed and added another set of running boards to complete the look.

I know there a few that don't like these and think it's a waste of a hauler, but I like it. Nice build. What color do you think you're going to paint it?

I just bought a C-50 at auction, it has a 307 crate engine with less than 5K miles but has been sitting for the last 10 years, the sellers put some gas in carb and it fired right up. It has a tilt bed and 2 speed rear end. I have little experience working on large vehicles, any advice on this project would be greatly appreciated. Especially the brake system, any upgrades or tricks to help stop better.
Things to work on first

Brakes
Fuel system (adding saddle tank)
Tires

Later work
Remove cab and make few rust repairs and paint
Have undercarriage sand blasted and painted
